Do you think the Praetorian Guard will ever be re-introduced into the world of 40k?

I'd like to hear peoples views on what they think about this particular army!!

thanks again guys

then i would actually buy some from the shop and not only eay my stuff...tehre are some versions of pith helmeted modles available. so if GW would be thinking straight they would see their losses there and relaunch them...

would be nice if they do so in the next two months...

I too would really love to see these guys released but I would not hold your breath. The shame of it is, they are simply Mordians with a different helmet. A plastic box set with two sets of heads would kill 2 birds with one stone giving the gaming community Praetorians and Mordians in model form outside of being metal.

Heck, I am sure you could come up with a bit representing the shoulder boards and tassles and if it were not glued on, give us a third head of some sort and all of a sudden you have a box with 3 different guard regiments. A multi-regiment guard box is just what is needed right now, especially since Tallarns have gone to resin to an extent and the Valhallans were kind of replaced by the Vostroyans as the "winter-garbbed" Imperial guard.

The black rage is within us all. Lies offer no shield against the inevitable. You speak of donning the black of duty for the red of brotherhood; but it is the black of rage you shall wear when the darkness comes for you.

If they made plastic Praetorians they would outsell SM for most of the older players.

I've recently started to collect a Praetorian army, and while I've been some what lucky at finding the minis at fairly reasonable prices,I've also come across people selling 10 man squads for as high as $60 dollars a go,so I'd love to see GW re-introduce the line.

IMO GW would have sure seller if they were to release a plastic Mordian/Praetorian kit,not only because it would make these minis readily available to those already searching for them, but it would offer IG player the opportunity to have a more varied and colorful/characterful selection of plastics to choose from.

Even if all they did was a another limited edition run of the praetorians, a la space-hulk, they would make a KILLING. I can't see there being much of a motivation for a new plastic kit with all the specialised guard regiments in it, as apart from the old players who want a plastic version of <insert regiment here> the newbies who GW are trying to attract aren't going to have heard of them, and so will probably ignore them for some marines or LotR.

There is no way I'd be willing to buy them second-hand, as they go for some insane prices over here, what annoys me most is that I'd just got into the hobby when they came out, so wanted to get some but was persuaded not to by my grandparents (I was about 10/11) as I hadn't finished my 2nd ed starter box!

While there won't be a rerelease of the original models, there are enough sources for conversions, e.g. heads by "Secret Weapons" ( http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=23&products_id=115 ) and "Empress Miniatures" ( http://www.empressminiatures.com/userimages/procart5.htm , http://www.empressminiatures.com/userimages/procart3.htm ) and body parts ( http://www.bartertown.com/trading/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=87669 ).

So the army is far from dead, even without a rerelease of the original models.

I'm planing on ordering some of the heads from "Secret Weapons" soon,I've acquired a few Cadian troopers and plan on using them as the basis for my Praetorions veteran squad, the size difference does bother me a bit...but I'll get over it.

I realize they have a cult folllowing, like the squats, but they're not going to be re-released and they shouldn't be. They're not grimdark enough for 40k and have never been popluar. Of all of the imperial guard regiments that had minis made they were the least popular.

hmmm i think doing for once a non-grim dark thing in the bounds of 40k would alwas be worth the effort. and i think the praetorians can be made as well grim dark if someone wanted to. its just that the british look doesnt work when done dirty...

In my opinion there are already plenty of varients if you dont want to play Cadians, why add another?

I just dont think the demand is there.

800 brethren and 2,000 other personnel were expected to reach Crows World within no more than 12 hours. They never arrived.

I would love to see a return of the Praetorians. Would have myself a full 6 platoons of them in a heartbeat. I think I'm going to go the wargames factory route though, easier to deal w/ than scooping up second hand models on forums and ebay.

BTW, Black Library was working on a book about the Praetorians, the project is on hold indefinitely however.

Being an elitist, selfish bastard, I hope they don't reintroduce them, as I just got my hands on an original box set, and enough additional models to do the IG army I have been wanting to do. It would suck (for me) if they were now available cheaply, and if they were more common, as I would have an overpriced, but less unique army.

I can't believe people don't think they are grimdark enough for 40K. The only things the Praetorians are famous for is for being massacred at Big Toof River. How is that not grimdark?

I would be very happy if they simply mentioned them again in the official fluff occasionally. As much as I love them, I'd really rather see more stuff done for the Valhallans, which look much more like a 'representative' 40K army to me.

Butcha, while understandable, I dont think you would have much to worry about if GW did reintroduce them. They would get new sculpts, which would undoubtedly look cool, but would be misproportioned like the rest of their plastic ranges (while the Praetorians are actually fairly well proportioned compared to historicals/forgeworld). So all in all, you would still have a better looking army (IMO).

About two years ago they said they wanted to have each IG regiment in plastic - not that they were in the process of being designed, just that they would like to. If they made a Mordian kit it wouldn't be hard to get some pith helmet heads from somewhere else and make your own Praetorians.

Yeah, I'm surprised at how weedy my little buggers look next to almost everything new.

Of course, that made it all the sweeter when one of them took out a Crisis suit* in close combat in my first Kill Team game.

I hope they re-introduce them they were by far my favoriate guard army, and that rorke's drift style battle report they did back in the 90's was amazing.

I've still got that White Dwarf. Battle at Glazer's Creek was so much fun to read, and why I originally fell in love with the little pith-helmeted no-hopers.

It had so much good stuff, including actual people's own armies, and not just Studio armies. I also liked the old style articles where you actually had pictures of the GAME, and not just of the models artfully placed on the board. Plus, scratch-built terrain, rather than ONLY GW terrain kits.

Sigh.
