Somehow I've missed his thread. Love the color choice and the highlighting. That banquet o weapons is pretty sweet as well. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for this.

A busy night of replies

The inset bits you are talking of dont get much attention because if I brush over them very much I find it makes the model to grey :( So I leave them mostly. In real life you can see they do have a dusting of highlight but not as much as the rest of the model.

I am glad you are all liking things. I have not got the vulture finished I am afraid. But thats mostly because I did these today.

They needed doing so I thought I would get them out of the way. One of them is the one that was already painted. I have given it a repaint and repair as it had lost a lot of sand and bits over time.

The vulture then. It is very close to done. Just a wing strut and a bit of tail fin and its done apart from a few wires. I have got its landing gear on now

CC as always guys.

Just a quick update today.

When Im was at club last night I took a quick snap of me and my mates 2000point doubles list.

Its only a phone picture but I thought you would like it.

Its a stupidly hard army so far nothing has even come close to hurting it. Gonna be a killer I hope when it comes to the tournament.

It's that air cavalry army that makes me want to do guard. I really like the light grey on the tail strut.

Quiet time?

Well done some work on the third Vendetta today. Here are the wips for you.

Still quite a bit to go here. The entire underside needs doing and the heavy bolters. All the pink parts of the front scanner need doing. The odd bit of metal and a strut as well as its id number.

Small steps though small steps

I will have to clear the table for it.

Anyway guys. Done some more work on the fort now. The bunker that the lascannon sits on has had its 2 coats of silver and the brass colour on the floor done. It is now waiting for its wash.
Also I have done the lascannon turret from start to finish in the hope that now its painted it might hit something.

As you can see I tried something a little different with the gun burn. Do you guys prefer it to my standard burn painting? If so I might have to redo all the guard burns.

And another little thing for you. My Mrs wants to learn to play. I decided my guard army is so big that I can spare some infantry that are yet to be refurbished and a couple of tanks. I had a boxed russ laying around so I let her build that and a pair of chimeras.
I need the chimeras but she can have the russ for her army. I am gonna show her how to paint although she is yet to chose a colour. When shes done the basics I will use the army as a chance to test new weathering and detail affects that would not suit my black guard army.

Anyway here is a pic of her Lemanruss eradicator complete with drive me closer so I can hit them with my sword tank commander.

I have ordered a load of tamiya tang storage things to put on it (and my guard) So before it can be painted I need to wait for those. Keep and eye out guys this is gonna be pretty.

My storage bits have arrived and I have set about mounting them on the Eradicator. Think its good stuff myself what are your thought on it though?

Also do you like what I have done with the tank?

Going to start the paint job tomorrow.

The dog is a nice touch. Humanizes the crew.

I think you may have added a few too many stowage bags though, it looks somewhat cluttered.
The one that stands out as not making sense is the large duffle attached to the front of the hull. That thing would take immense amounts of abuse any time the tank was not on a flat surface, and anything stowed in it would be broken or lost.
The only thing I've ever seen a tank crew stow there is spare track links (because they can handle it, and they act as stand-off armor)

Most stowage on tanks is kept to the sides/back of turrets or on the rear deck. Rarely is anything stowed on the front, as it would be damaged or destroyed by small arms fire. I'd say remove the stowage from the front of the hull, and move the ones on the front fenders to the back.

Not sure if it's intentional, but it appears as though the larger round duffle on the back is mounted upside down.

I wanted to give the impression that the crew had to keep everything they needed on board a proper feeling of the tank is their home.

I like having the rolled up tarp on the front as its covering up a big flat space :( Also The picture on the kit for the storage has a picture of a Hummer with loads of bags and stuff hanging on the front of it. I am not to fussed about the it would get shot problem compared to the I think that it looks cool factor.

I have painted the turret now I hope you like it a bit more now that it has some paint on it.

In terms of the painting I went a bit all out to try new things. It has decals which I never use as a rule, Some different gun burn effects and I have tried my hand at some heavy weathering as well as more advanced glass effects.

I am very happy with it it makes my main guard army look like gak.

The US army no longer uses Hummers in a combat role as they learned very quickly in the war on terror that they're just too soft and vulnerable to IEDs. Combat patrols are now done with Strikers and MRAP vehicles (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected). Click here for more info

The front stowage, if not shot to hell, would get caught on anything obstacle the tank drives over and likely torn off/open.

I know. I am not saying you are wrong I just am trying to point out I would rather have it their because it looks cool, I do not really care about real world ramifications when building my models when compared to how I want them to look.

I am very please that you are all suitably impressed with the paint job. That is about as good as I can paint. The reason my massive guard army is not painted like it is simply a matter of its an army to play with and its about 20 000 points. I cant spend 5 hours on every gun turret when there is 40 tanks never mind the rest of the planes ect. Although my Mrs has been talking about getting a single Vendetta for the Desert guard for me to paint up with the wing eagle and everything so I look forward to that.

I have not done any more of the tank today but I have taken some pictures of this guardsman. He is the tester for the infantry. I like how he has come out.
All the men will be "coloured" in this army as it contrasts the sand well and as I want to enter these in painting competitions when done it is a damn sight easier to paint than white skin.

I am going to mix the painting up a bit I want the army to have a real shambles feel to it. This means lots of different parts. Cadian, Catachan, forgeworld and other makes of bits all mixed up. I will also give some troops camo clothes here and there and throw in a bit of green every so often just to show that in war sometimes you have to put up with what you get.

This should result in a very unique guard army that will fit right in next to my Customised Silver Skulls.

Anyway pic time.

Hope you like him and comments are always welcome.

I have also just finished building the first complete infantry squad. Note the Vox man. In game he will not be having one. (well I dought it anyway) But I wanted a com guy in each squad for looks.Hope they give you a bit of an idea about the shambles idea I have.

Thanks guys I will do some more tank tomorrow for you and maybe start these.

Hi guys. Well first squad is all base coated brown now and I have fully painted another guardsman.

I am painting these pretty much one at a time as I want each one to be unique. I have started the third guy to he will get done tomorrow.

Also tryed to put transfers on this guy. They did not come out to bad. I the pic you can see a couple of imperfections but in reality they are such small transfers that you cant see the imperfections at all.

Hope you like them. They need a proper coat of varnish as the can ran out. I will get a new one wednesday which should allow me to take the remaining shine off the transfers.

Dude, I go away for a couple weeks, come back and you are starting a new guard army?!?! They look really good. I think the weathering and details on the turret are worth the time. Good luck working with those decals. Never use them myself, not enough uniformity in the numbers.

Haha thanks mate. Well I have lots of 144 decals so 144 everywhere!

I have done a lot of work on the tank hull today instead of working on the men. I want to get this tank done to use as a showcase for getting commisions off people. Like a model portfolio I guess.

Anyway its come a long way but still ahs lot to do. I have done the base camo and the wash and have added red and grey company stripes as well as done the gun burn but what I really want feedback for here is the muddy effect?

So what do you guys think so far? Also I was thinking dark blue going to white for the plasma cells?

looks really great! as for the plasma. my advice is to paint white in the most recessed areas white and darker the further out you get. since plasma is hot as hell and really hot things use to glow. the hottest part glows the most and turnes white. and the further out it gets the cooler it gets and the color gets darker..

since i'm not that good at explaining stuff i'm just gonna show you what i mean.

sry for posting my own pics here on your thread.

it's a shame to see really great paintjobs getting ruined becouse of such a small detail.
way to many paint dark in the recessed areas and white as highlights for plasma.. but hey! it looks cool to and it's their chiose!

the mud effect looks great. you really don't have to do anything more on it imo. but what you could do is a light drybrush with a ligher color to make it look like the mud is starting to dry up.

anyway! overall the tank looks cool as hell and you keep it up! i'm sure you'll get alot of commisions the way you paint

Thanks dude that is a funky idea but its not quite the look is was going for. I was going to do a really dark blue then phase it into a whit at the top of the cells more like how you would paint a blue gem or bit of glass and then maybe do a little bit of blue lighting affect around it but I have never done that before so I am not sure yet.

I did give the mud a dry brush of a lighter brown before I washed it. I don't want to do a lighter shade of the mud as I want it to look like its still muddy like its currently driving about in it if that makes sense? Also if it gets to light it will blend into the tanks camo colours.

Does that make sense or do I sound like a dick?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Right I tried a to add another dry brush but it made it a bit to light so i gave it another light wash of agrax earthshade and it came out like this.

I think this is just right?

I love how this new guard army is shaping up truffles, the mixing up of cadian and catachan bits really makes them look like a vet regiment. The LR looks awesome, especially with all the extra stowage, looks like the crew truly are living off their vehicle. great work, as usual!

Thanks mate. Just done the cells on the plasma rifles.
It is not quite the same as most people do them but I decided I did not like the idea of the really bright lower sections. Sorry mate

Anyway what do you think?

I am quite pleased

Nah i think it looks good how you've done it. OSL can get overdone so easily i always think, i like how yours has turned. Only thing you could improve on is possibly sponge on some of the main khaki colour onto that red part. So it looks like the paint has been slightly worn away to the base coat. Other than that, looking good.

Patients young sir I have not done the weathering on the hull yet. That will be the last thing that gets done.

I have done the mud on the other side of the tank for you all though.

Very happy with that effect

Also been painting some more troops. I have done another 2 guardsmen today.

Thought I would try out those cells on something a bit smaller and it is ok I think?

I painted a normal lasgun troop to.

Thought I would give this one a camo lasgun like he had got hold of a spray can and done some custom work. I figured you would spray the parts that normally stand out silver and then apply some camo but I figured he would not be able tog et hold of camo mags or have time to spray mags. So yeah thats that

Here is a little group shot.

Going to be a cool little army.

CC though guys? Ow one question I have left the eyes. I figured really dark skinned people often have very dark eyes and painting them black looks crap so I just left them. Any suggestions though?
