When we were working on the Blood Vestals, many of you asked for a Sci-fi version. Well, good news, this is the project we're working on right now.

As for the Preying Mantis, we will make them as multipart minis. The SF Vestals will be designed with two interchangeable arms to give you customization or alternative weapons if you want to create units with more than ten figures.

But to be sure to offer you SF Vestals that fit your needs, here are six questions:

Boo. I think the entire idea of making the same figure for fantasy and scifi is the root of how lame these are. It didn't work for any of the earlier figures either.

That does not exempt him however of criticizing them if that was what you were implying.

By contrast, I think it's a clever way of expanding a range quickly.

There is ultimately little difference between a Witch Elf and a Wych, other than one of them having a gun.

I won't. But they did solicit opinions, after all. I was providing what they asked for.

Heh, seconded!

I find the Sci-Fi version rather nice, I really hope they have ambidextrous options for some blades. There is a surprising paucity of melee weapons in right hands in some ranges.

There are other companies, who just add a gun and bionic eye to their Fantasy sprue and call it a SciFi starter set

The sci-fi models have different armour (and a lot more of it) with a spiky yet different style to it compared to the fantasy Blood Vestals. Oh, and different hair.

This isn't simply a lazy port.

I just hope that these are the same scale as GW wyches.

I left the following in the comment field:

Make them the right size! Fantasy Vestals are beautiful figures, but too small to fit in with GW Witch elves. +2mm.

Add some options as in-box inclusions. Your figures are not cheap. Look at Asharah as an example and supply 12 heads for 10 figures, Pistol + short sword for 10 Vestals, special weapons for 3 Vestals and a specific weapon for the unit leader. You want to sell more boxes? People love extra value and more options.

I'd suggest that if people agree, let them know now while these things are still fluid.

guess this company needs a thread of its own now.

Current news is that they are working on a new undead and ask for feedback on the sculpt http://www.ragingheroes.com/blogs/news/3444022-rising-from-the-dead :

You may remember Akzeltolt, one of the mini we've presented as a work-in-progress a few month ago. Unfortunately, we were forced to keep him on the shelves as we realized that the kit was very complex to produce. Moreover, we discovered that in his current form, he might not be close enough to what gamers might be looking for. So poor Akzy failed his coming back to life and got right back into his grave.

However, we think the sculpt has amazing potential and so, today, we are asking you about what would be a good way to reincarnate Akzeltolt.

How do you see him in your games?
Would you want him with legs?
What about his weapons?
Do your prefer him as a human-sized character, or as a giant creature?
Just as an undead character? Or also as a demonic creature? Or something else?
We're waiting for your comments and suggestions…

Whatever happened with this figure?

Don't know. I'm still waiting for their kinda-chaotic but not Marines to surface. Those concepts were what first bought the company to my attention but I haven't heard anything of them..

Top one of those dudes might make an interesting C'tan shard but outside of that...I don't know what I'd do with it...

As to the SFBVs I took their survey and stated they would need to be the exact same size/scale as Wyches.

And in theory at least, I have no problem with that. There are quite a lot of fantasy archetypes that fit well into a science fantasy setting with just the addition of a gun or a tech-ier weapon.

Which makes sense, since a lot of game companies (not even just games workshop) make their science fiction races "_____ fantasy race, but in space".

If anything, it's the original concepts that are lazy, but the actual model renderings above look good.

My only true disappointment is that these sci-fi models look fantastic, but come out just as 6th ed will nerf Wyches into nigh unplayability. I already have 20 GW ones so buying these girls -even as badly as I want them- may now be a luxury purchase for me rather than a necessity. If I'm wrong, however, I will eat crow by replacing my current ones with these. As to the models themselves, likely I would get 10 of the Scifi and 10 of the fantasy and have them represent different squads.

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

I like the RH sci-fi versions just fine, but I like the GW versions more. They have a real sleekness and dynamic quality that I feel is missing here.

On the other hand, I prefer RH's witch elves better than their GW counterparts, but the GW models are old and look it.

I wouldn't mind seeing a little more stylistic deviation away from what we already have in the GW DE Wytch box. I'd like to see their pistols handled in a shoulder mount, mandiblaster (or Incubi stinger), or stylized into the melee weapons they're carrying. My case is that the GW DE Wytches are already done, and damn well I might add. I would like an alternative from the pistol right hand melee in left hand.

I think if you have some obvious counts as, but different, short (pistol) ranged systems freeing up the hands of the vestals you could get really really creative with these and not just have a better (or worse) clone of what's already out there.

THE FUN HAS BEEN DOUBLED!!!

Any word on the Preying Mantis figures?

Collector's Edition (Resin): We validated the resin prototypes last week, the foundry is finalizing the first batch this week-end so we'll start shipping those next week.

Standard Edition (Metal): Metal took a bit longer (because the masters were first sent out to the resin foundry), and we had to wait to get them back before sending them out to the metal foundry. We validated the metal prototypes this week, and the foundry expects to ship early next week, and shipping will take place right after we get them.

The box art is already out to the printer, and the bases and black boxes are in stock, so we should hit the ground running

We just haven't had the chance to snap photos of the casts yet, but they are just gorgeous! We'll try to get images out ASAP.
Oh, and it is only fair to mention that pre-order pricing will change to regular pricing on June 30th...

I look forward to them. I preordered 2 sets as soon as they went up to go with my Blood Vestals. I only wish your feedback email would get back to us as you do here on Dakka. I sent an email after receiving my pre-ordered Vestals with feedback (as per the little "email us" card) and never even got an acknowledgement, let alone a reply.

The Mantis are shipping !!
Raging Heroes, 5th July

We are currently furiously packing piles of Preying Mantis to all of you around the world who pre-ordered them.

To help you wait for just a few more days while they are traveling to your mailbox, here's a series of pics that, we hope, will make you crave them a bit more...

The photos below are from the resin casts, but frankly, the metal version is just as stunning. If we can find the time, we'll try to post some pics of the metal versions as well.

If we were to choose between metal and resin for ourselves, our choice would be made based on the material properties rather than on the definition of the cast, as they are so similar in that regard. Metal (the Standard Edition) will suit those who prefer a more heavy and sturdy miniature in hand, while resin (the Collector's Edition) will make for easier gluing and converting options.

Kidding aside, they have a new character for the Blood Vestals:

I'm not particularly impressed with the Orc Warmaster or the Mantis Warriors.

Psst - anyone at Raging Heroes - 'Heroin' in this case should have an 'e' at the end, otherwise it's the drug and not a female hero.
