Did you decide which bases to use in the end? EDC Thank ya sir. I decided to make my own bases in the end. What I will probably do is buy a big chunk of clay that I can sculpt a bunch of Prosperine glyphs (like pictured on the backdrop of my last picture). I will then bake it and smash it into smaller pieces so that I can scatter it around everyone's base. In theory it should work really well and make every base unique! Automatically Appended Next Post: Dr. Cheese spurred me into action and I have made my first attempt at whipping up some bases! I started off with a flattened out blob of sculpey. And then used a ruler (well, ruler substitute which happened to be a Dairy Queen gift card) to mark out some rough squares. The most lengthy part was sculpting on all the glyphs. They are not perfect but seeing as they will be covered in rubble they should do nicely. After 15 minutes in the oven I took my finished creation out and proceeded to smash it to pieces! Taking a small chunk I stuck it on a base and added some Agrellan earth to fill in the gaps. Hopefully once it's all dry I should be able to paint it up and have a pretty nifty looking base

Oh and I will probably take some inspiration from the GW diorama of Prospero and go for a nice white glow on the tiles. Not sure it will look as good as this though!

I might actually take you up on that, but I'm both indecisive and paint/build at a glacial pace, so not much may happen for a long while

Funny you should say that as I was considering that exact idea myself. I already have a special material for making reusable molds and doing so would save a heck of a lot of time over sculpting each tile individually! I did cheat and press a few patterns into the tiles from some random bits I had lying around but a mold for gyphs would be super useful.
@War Kitten, I am the exact same! Maybe just build and paint one model to the best of your ability and see what happens from there. I find a well modelled and painted mini is great for encouraging you to do more of them

The test bases look super nifty. I think casting them with GS moulds or something is the way to go though as otherwise it'll take an eternity to do all those glyphs.

Thanks for the kind words! And thanks for spurring me on to actually get my butt in gear and actually make some haha Here is the finished product. A splash of white paint and some sandy weathering powder really brings the whole thing together I think. I think I'm gonna mass produce a bunch this afternoon and mess around with some blue tiles. Wish me luck! Cain

Got my first 10 bases all done before work. Pretty happy with how they all turned out! In hindsight they are going to be tricky to actually put models on so the next batch will probably look a little different but keep the same general theme..
Not the best pictures but they are just bases!

@War Kitten, I'd love to see the finished product whenever you get round to making them!
Sorry for the prolonged silence folks, I have actually been crazy busy practically doubling the size of my army and just neglected to take pictures along the way.
I recently picked up the new 40k thousand sons sets and have been blending them into the HH boxed games with massive success, what phenomenal sculpts!
It's too dark to get any decent shots of the models so I'll just leave you all with a teaser of the massive wave of reinforcements my army has gotten... (Yeah yeah, that's almost an entire company!)

In the fluff they still have boarding shields (or at least some of them do) but in game they don't exist. Closest we have is Storm Shields

Looking really cool! I had a question about those new scarab occult termies. How easy would it be to mix and match arms with the prospero kit, if one wanted to get rid of the chaos bits?

Ah I see! My guess is that most of my army would be very confusing in an actual game. Pretty sure that a Rhino with hurricane bolter sponsons is illegal
brushcommando wrote:Looking really cool! I had a question about those new scarab occult termies. How easy would it be to mix and match arms with the prospero kit, if one wanted to get rid of the chaos bits?
Hi there! As luck would have it, the kits are completely interchangable, arms, legs, and heads. You get some awesome spare its with both kits so while I kept the Chaosy vibe with my termies, a quick weapon swap would make them fit nicely into a HH army.
This is the Scarab Occult set which I did very little with other than swapping out some legs from the Prospero set as they are more dynamic.
The Prospero termies got to loot the remains of the bits meaning that they got some of the more ornate legs, arms, and heads. You also get a spare torso with a crest so I added that to the sergeant.
If you are curious what they might look like all painted up it may take a while for me to finish them off but Athrawes over at B&C did one up the other month, check it out! Love the way he does the metallic armour..

Thanks for the info! I'm trying to budget my hobby money very carefully this year, but I love the tragic nature of the 1k sons lore and would love to do some more ornate scarab termies. It's pretty exciting that GW decided to make the kits interchangeable.

Hey everyone, my new pile of marines is just waiting for a break in the snow, wind, and cold so that I can spray them all and get painted up.
That's around 1000 models I have to paint....
In the meantime I ordered enough 32mm bases to redo all my current force as they look so much better on a nicely fitting base.
First up, the assault squad that got the original batch of bases I made.
Then we have my (finally) completed Pavoni shapeshifter squad. Bases look a little bland but that's due to my ancient camera!
Last up is a small team of marines in MKI armour. They are pretty short compared to the newer plastics so I made sure to give them some tall bits to stand on!
25 bases down, another 75 to go!
