RiTides wrote:Hence an expansion pack for Zombicide not fitting that bill for me... just my opinion, of course, but I think I'd be all zombied out . Not to mention that a large number of the models that were stretch goals for THIS kickstarter, come out at the same time as the expansion. If they had a kickstarter for the expansion, with stretch goals, when would those additional models come out...?

You can see how it would get out of control, and all I'm saying is, with $750K, I think that's enough to put out a board game AND it's expansion, particularly since many models being sent at the same time as the expansion were already funded through this one, and then some.

Excellent point I think. May as well just release it all since the funds are there for both than to just trickle it out slowly over time unnecessarily. I am definitely not eager to wait 6 moons to a year for the models I paid for to be released.

The video and gameplay reminds me a bit of the Space Hulk card game. Now I only got to play it once, but the basic concept seems a bit familiar.

Hasslefree has a couple minis that'd be perfect for Snake or Bubba Ho-tep. I have most of Hasslefree's minis and they are just awesome for having as survivors in just about any game.

Modern Day Heroes also has some Elvi armed with guns and one has a sword, so that he can carve zombies into hunks o' burning love.

I'd totally support anyone that takes a crack at making a Tallahasse figure.

The fig with the guitar is great! I would never have thought of a good use for that, but a survivor in this game is certainly one of them.

I am kind of a huge board game nerd now, being one of numerous reasons why I do not frequent dakka much any more.

That said I have played a fair amount of board games and co-ops seem to be, for the most part, either badly implemented at best or crapfests at worst.

If the video is anything to judge the game by (and it should be seeing as how it is a promotional and semi instructional video) then the game will be fun for the first few goes, but will get really dry after that. Take your actions - populate areas with zombis when applicable - finish turn - Take zombie turn - rinse and repeat.

This, of course, is modified by scenario special rules... but the AI of the game seems fairly unoriginal, like most co-operative board games. This does work in this games favor since you are only fighting zombies who are by an large identical plebeians who only differ by visual cues for their minor differences of speed or toughness, but still lacks a lot of oomph that could be done in the game. By co-op standards it is more of the same with slight variations.

The main focus of the game is not the mechanical design, but the aesthetic design. The miniatures are dead sexy and give the consumer a decent chance to own miniatures of famous pop culture icons on top of a heap of walking dead.

The game could be outstanding. But the video doesn't convince me it is so if when it arrives it is a great game. Awesome. if not, well, I wasnt planning on using the components for the game they were made for anyways so no loss.

Thanks for the explanation - I do appreciate it!

Also, I've been getting into board/card games more lately too, so by all means, lets start a mini-revolution and get some good board game/card game chat going:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/forums/show/24.page

Some co-op games are quite fun - have you tried Elder Sign (and Arkham Horror) or Sentinels of the Multiverse? How about Yggdrasil? My group had a lot of fun with them!

I was on the fence about co-op games too, but my group has really had a lot of fun with them. Granted though, that repeat play-throughs may expose weakness/boredom/etc.

I've got high hopes for this one though!

Sometimes simple is good though depending on who all is playing. Also, the way my family plays games I'm sure there will be a hybrid ruleset for us to shoot and chop each other too... co-op becomes "co-op" becomes "muahhahahhaha". :-) I think Zombicide has a good core of rules and it can gain replayability just by how much the community embraced it. There will be more scenarios and extra rules floating around for this than you could ever play probably before it even comes out.

I'd have paid 140 for all the miniatures alone.

I may end up playing this game on a 4X4 table filled with a city.

the extra card and build system doesn't hurt all that hard, either.

I have those EM4 thugz, and there are quite a few other systems that have some figs that work out there, as well. USX line, and there were a few from Zombiesmith that would really fit the bill.

Mega minis has a batch of survivors too.

Might need to get me some 1 inch graph paper and draw up some high rise apartments for some REC action....

That Space Hulk comparison I think hit it hard on the mark. I think that might be why I like this one.

Ok, was slightly confused when it asked how many extra abomination sets I wanted, considering I asked for two at the beginning (for $190), but now with a further email it's just them asking to see if I wanted more but hadn't originally pledged for them.

All good now. Pledged for 2 copies, 1 each of Eva, Marvin and Ivy, 2 of Claudia and $40 for international shipping. Done and done.

I may be crazy enough to print the cards, rulebook, and tiles and start playing zombicide before they ship it.
