As we were walking out of Return of the King, I told my wife I wanted a FW war mammoth. Fortunately, that got shot down. This was also long before the mamuk was even on the horizon...

War of the Ring and the SBG have pretty different rules. The SBG is a pretty good ruleset. War of the Ring is the opposite.

yeah but it did fit in Wotr much more then fantasy, which was always about careful movement and whatnot
now it and 40k are so similar that I feel no point in playing 40k since I dislike the various colours of marines and broken mat ward armies

There are pics of new dwarf warrior models in the back of the Hobbit rulebook.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

This is why GW makes money from this stuff - guys who have seen the movie will buy their stuff.
I saw the movie today and loved it, it was better than I expected. Still won't buy the models though because I feel they're overpriced.

Wow! At first how was much on the side of the OP, but these models are huge! Not very detailed, but still!
Considering you get 3 of them, its not that bad of a price... but for a game a very few people will play?
Kind of a bad marketing shot on them... But hey, its GW: nice models, nice game and provides us with a wonderful hobby while praying satan and stealing from their grannys purses.
Not the first time, not the last if you ask me

Hahaha, great find. It simply shows how ridiculous the new prices are.
inb4 Testify saying GW's set of planks has a way higher quality, superior artsy design and even is too cheap anyway given its outstanding value!

If GW should ever spot the balsa planks we made for our table, I'm expecting them to sue me right on the spot for copying their idea.

GW seem to place far too high a value on the quality of their plastics. A plastic Fellowship is £30 on their site, the same set as in the Moria game. They were great plastics in the starter game, but when you buy a separate release you expect better, like the original metal Fellowship, which was a lovely set and has some real quality for a LotR collector or gamer. The plastics are simply inferior, yet GW take them out the starter set and charge premium on them, now costing more than the original metals. It's just disappointing that they sell the inferior plastic fellowship in place of the metal one. Though if they priced the metal fellowship today in the manner they have the White Council then it would be nearly £100. That probably shows just how utterly absurd their pricing structure has become.

Actually, the blog is unrelated. I know the guy behind the company--he was at SoCal Smackdown--and he is just getting his website up and running.
He came up with the name at the convention, unaware that someone else had already used it.

Why not just get them from Mithril? They have been making LotR figures for 25 years or so, and have a good range to choose from.

Pretty sure Mithril isn't cheaper than GW
Edit: I stand corrected, you can get a boxed set of the Fellowship for 30 Euro. Gosh, GW really has gone the far side of reason.

I've been avoiding reading this thread or looking at the GW models until after I saw the movie (even though I know The Hobbit story, I wanted to see what they did fresh instead of looking at a lot of movie merchandise and comments online first).
Now I've seen the movie and looked at some of the models, yeah, the pricing is pretty bad, but they're also some pretty nice looking models, especially for plastics and really the prices aren't much worse than what I've come to expect from GW. There's certainly some miniatures in there that I wouldn't mind getting just for the sake of painting up and putting on display.

Depends where you live. In the US, the price difference isn't massive between Mithril and GW, GW in Europe is massively overpriced though. The mithril site is pretty hard to navigate, but the images I saw it doesn't look nearly as high quality as the GW stuff.
