I am going to try calling my GW's manager to see if I can pay for one ahead of time so I don't miss out. I suppose if I get back from Wisconsin in time I might be able to pick one up but I don't want to chance it. I have recently gotten a bit of a Beakie obsession.
Anyone know how much the book is? Looks like it's all just reprints of old WD articles and old rulebooks, but it would be cool to have all that stuff under one roof I suppose.
Price dependant, I could get excited for the book/magazine. Some AAA hardcore nostalgia in those little sneak peeks and snippets.

Oh that does bring back memories, a remake of the ORIGINAL marine before 40k. Wife has a full unit of 10, including heavy weapon somewhere knocking around. Maybe time to do something with them.
My comments are my own, and mine own alone. If you have any complaints, please report to Mr Spanky who will take them down for you.....

Iconic soldiers of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, the Space Marines are recognisable to all. Slamming down from orbit in Drop Pods and unleashing hell onto the enemies of the Imperium, they are found in every corner of the galaxy, heroically battling evil wherever it is found in a desperate struggle for the very survival of mankind itself. As long as a single Space Marine draws breath, the Imperium of Man stands inviolable.
Games Workshop invites you to celebrate thirty years of Space Marines (yes, it really has been that long…) with this incredible, limited edition reimagining of the first ever Space Marine miniature! Armed with a disintegration pistol, disintegration combi-gun and combat blade, he comes with a Citadel 32mm Round base in a special presentation box, featuring his rules for deployment in games of Warhammer 40,000!
This model is strictly limited – once it’s gone, that’s it – so move quickly to ensure your own little piece of history!

Well, it is good to know that those of use that won't be able to make it to a GW store will be able to get ahold of this model if we want it. I am still on the fence. I was really hoping he would have a molded Fist emblem (especially since he comes with an additional shoulder pauldron anyway). That diminishes my need for him. Would be fun to have, but not a huge deal.

Yeah...for like 5 minutes.
It's cool I guess, but I don't know if it's worth $30. It'll sell out of course, because it's limited and everyone's gonna put it on eBay hoping to get like $90 out of it or some gak.
They should have re-released the diorama from a few years back, the one that was unfortunately in Finecast (and thus worthless garbage), but do it in plastic this time.

Agreed on all points. I would love the Crimson Fist Standard Bearer, but Finecast is no deal for me. I haven't had issues finding him online either. I would buy a plastic one of him without a second thought (to replace my current Standard Bearer).
If I am able to get this guy, I will get him. If he is sold out, no big deal. He was a lot more enticing when I thought his Fist emblem was molded on.
And as for the special rules, if they are good, I will do a modern re-imagining of this guy with a current Beakie model and use the rules with that.

I'm more interested in this "Disintegration Gun" and "Disintegration Pistol" than the actual model -

Don't be ridiculous, Space Marines don't get Str D! I look forward to making my own version of this dude if I don't end up getting one. I have a newfound love of Beakie Marines.
£18 for a single 28mm plastic figure, artificially limited as they could churn out as many as they like from the mould. Gone are the days when something like this would have free on the front of White Dwarf.

Oh, Gee-Dubs, you silly! I'd have bought a WD for a special tac-Marine miniature, but paying 25€? Good one! Here, take this gargantuan boatload of "NOPE" and be off, will ya?

I cant wait for more leaks Very interested in the book or magazine accompanying the anniversary.
Regarding the weapon, it is not part of the original rulebook or 1st Ed Battle Manual (updating combat and weapon rules). I havent re-read the first Book of the Astronomicon but I dont remember weapon rules in it. So this seems to be a new type. A few places on the web say this would be an original weapon. If so I would like to know where it can be found
Space Marines were mentioned in the 1986 Heroes for Wargames book as Deep Space Mercenaries and browsing through the early catalogue pages (CJs and flyers) the miniature names were based on their stance (like 'Advancing', 'Firing') at release. There is no mentioning of that gun type in any of the catalogues.
Wil Rees' artwork can be seen in the early miniatures from Bob Naismith
I found an interesting interview with Wil Rees about his part of the work on the Marines
For the past couple of months, people have cited the release of new games and starter deals as proof of a culture change at GW,

I think it looks good but not worth the price for me.
I would have liked to see them do something different, I know they're all about plastics these days but how about some resin minis, like 1 special character of each type of armor from MK1 till now? Even those terminators that looked like the round fellas from the 5th Element.
