I would have liked to see them do something different, I know they're all about plastics these days but how about some resin minis, like 1 special character of each type of armor from MK1 till now? Even those terminators that looked like the round fellas from the 5th Element.

If the mini came fully painted to that standard, even an old cynic like me might have been tempted.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

How to drybrush Space Marines? I imagine in the same way you drybrush every other fething thing. Ugh - GW, if you insist on triggering people's nostalgia for Ye Olden Tymes, you're going to have to step up your game on the content you provide around said nostalgia; at one stage painting articles actually tried to teach people advanced techniques.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks
-----
"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Drybrush a Space Marine? Heresy!!!!

In all my years in the hobby, I've never heard of anybody drybushing a space marine. Smooth armour plates and clean lines make for an easy painting experience IMO, even for an average painter like me.

Why would you need to drybrush? Why?

WTF

I tried drybrushing some back in the day when it was more or less the only technique I used on everything.

Needless to say, the result on Space marines were quite unimpressive.

Surely Calgar needs another size/armour update to Centurion armour now?

I mean, sure, with certain colours dry brushing has its place with your marines, but it's not nearly as useful as the more often touted wash and edge highlight approach GW usually spruiks.

Oh well, should be good for a laugh.

I am going to try calling my GW's manager to see if I can pay for one ahead of time so I don't miss out. I suppose if I get back from Wisconsin in time I might be able to pick one up but I don't want to chance it. I have recently gotten a bit of a Beakie obsession.

They can't really do things like that from my understanding, since if they put the item through ahead of time it would be an issue.

Maybe ask if you could put the exact amount it would be onto a gift card ahead of time and then have him hold you one?

I drybrush everything, even space marines

step 1 - use a colored primer to save time.
Step 2 - paint in solid colors
step 3 - slather on the nuln oil
step 4 - ???
step 5 - Drybrush highlights - optional depending on how lazy I feel

I do it on my CSM for a look that is weathered without being quite dirty.

Most of the time it just looks bad though.

I should think of a new signature... In the meantime, have a

The rare exception to the never drybrush space marines, is of course, Nurgle Marines. It is the only group that it works well with.

I remember when the current citadel paint range was released a few years back, they gave away a leaflet which showed every colour and a guide to painting an Ultramarine:

Base, shade, dry, layer, glaze, and texture the base. Looking at each stage right now, if you removed the dry stage, it makes absolutely no difference to the result. I honestly think it was a GW move to get kids to buy an extra pot of paint.

Or to show them every "type" of paint - they should have thrown on some blood for the blood god to complete the set though!

I don't think a miniature like this would ever have been a freebie. The Emperor's Champion wasn't, Sergeant Centurion wasn't, none of the many White Dwarf models ever were, to my knowledge.

It looks nice but that's just too much to ask for it. If this was a set of ten than I would gladly buy a box but if this is all I'd rather spend that money on the old metal originals.

no no no... they get "d weapons" (little d!)
