How are you liking FWW? is the terrain need more than others?

Really enjoying it so far. It's played on a 3x3 board and terrain depends on the scenario but if you have enough terrain to play 40k you should be ok.

The Cincinnati Games Workshop store kicked off its Kill Team league campaign last Sunday. Turnout was fantastic, almost too many for the store to handle. My opponent Justin, whom I hadn't met before, was a delight to play against and a perfect gentleman. I had a blast getting in my first game.

In the image above, we see students and faculty from a study group of the Collegium Scientia Mundanus (which is a COMPLETELY LEGITIMATE educational facility of Stygies VIII and IN NO WAY involved with heretical research or theft of archeotech, praise the Omnissiah) conducting routine field observations in a disused Imperial refinery. The field team are shown holding various research instruments, which they are using non-militarily and in COMPLETE COMPLIANCE with the planetary governor's policies, to survey and catalog oxidation rates on the refinery's pipes and storage tanks. To the left, we see two or more indigenous former workers peacefully demonstrating the use of what appears to be a rock drill and possibly cooking implements of some description. Contemporaneous explosions reported in the area were probably heat lightning.

Kill Team: TAU vs GSC

Tau were looking to cause mayhem and raze objectives, but the mining bois got antsy and rushed out to meet the bluies, despite being the defenders. The initial Tau response to the GSC jam was to load the non-leader aberrant with flesh wounds, then start absorbing hammers and rock claws with their soft squishy bodies. However the tables turned on the Cult quite quickly, as the Tau stopped rolling flesh wounds and just took out every griblly who dared peek out of a sewer, including the leader aberrant after a failed charge.

Late game saw the last Cultists with his trusty rock claw call it, after that flesh-wounded-to-hell aberrant was shived with a fire warrior bonding knife <3

L'Art de la Guerre Tournament, Tamil Indians vs. Nikephorian Byzantines

To be honest, I was a little surprised because my Indians, which ranged from about 300 BC to 1300 AD, managed to get into the post 1000 AD bracket of the tournament, so I was facing more Knights and Heavy Infantry than expected.

This game was a loss, since my opponent's cavalry allowed him to quickly redeploy and basically leave 1/3 of my army out of the fight. For a round it seemed like my attack on the right was going to work, but his Heavy Infantry managed to hold against my Medium Infantry and Elephants.

Biggest most crushing and fastest defeat ever. Knew stompa and 2 gorkanauts would lose but i hoped to at least kill something. Well recon scenanirio screwed me and opponenp had 3 dreads with 24" range, 2d3 shots hitting on 2+ with reroll for mortal wounds.

T1 both gorkanauts near dead, t2 both dead, t3 36 wounds to stompa. Killed one dread in return before dying and gave up then with 1 w left after dread blew.

Lol.

My plan actually worked! My opponent decided to dismount his knights rather than throw them against my elephants, so I was technically "faster". I managed to get my lines up to the hill to get a height bonus in combat, and this time the combat grind worked in my favor.

My first 2k AoS game, my Nurgle vs. Allheard BoC. Very enjoyable match despite a poor scenario forcing us into pretty much a straight up kill point fight. Opponent played too timidly and fed me his army piecemeal, so I ended up not losing a single unit while wiping about a third of his army by round 4 when time was called. He managed to summon a free Chimera, I didn't even have to bother and ended up sitting on 29 summon points in the end.

Some more Titanicus, the game flows very well. My legio Favilla crushed the opposition both times, though this might partially stem from my opponent playing for the first time and me being a long time BFG-player. Very similar experiences.

Anyhow, fine scraps they were! The first game saw my midfield brawler titan fall down into the acid lake while my knights took his warlords by surprise and tore their legs off while he couldn't shrug them off. In the second game they got vaporized by overkill Volcano Cannons as the first thing. Funny that

Must build a lot more terrain soon, it's critical (and nice to blow up...)

In a Trayzn pokeball

Deep within an unnamed hive on a backwater Imperial world, a xenos menace has been brewing. The only forces within range to respond are a small band of Grey Knights, returning to Titan after crushing a demonic cult.

Out in the wasteland despicable mutants have been developing a virus bomb to cripple Imperial Rule and finally turn this planet over to the Hive Mind.

Descending to the wastelands outside the hive, 17 heroes of the Imperium to face a horde of monsters.

This was effectively a test game for the Vigilus Weekender, my entire collection comes to 996 points. We played relic (technically not going to come up but neither of us had brought GH 2017), and it was one cracking game of 40k, definitely the best game of 8th I've played. In total I had 17 models, he had 60 inc chimera. I deployed a Nemisis Doomglaive Dreadnought, 4 Paladins and 5 Interceptors. he deployed 30 neophytes, a Magus, a chimera full of half mutants (they had some nasty power drills). He went first and rushed up the chimera to the relic and advanced the neophytes to grab the relic. I rushed up my units to blow up the chimera and kill a fair few of the guys inside. Second turn 27 genestealers appear with a primus who gave them plus one to hit and they charged in. The interceptors fell instantly, the dread lasted till my turn 3 and gave a fairly good account of itself and three of the paladins went down. It was looking like the game was over already on turn two. I responded by deep striking voldus, a generic GM with psilencer and my strike squad. Using gate I pulled out the last paladin on two wounds and left the dread in, then charged in with the GM and paladin, and killed most of the remaining genestealers by start of turn 4 whilst voldus chased the neophytes back to his deployment. The strike squad went down to the drill guys.

By the end of turn 3 all I had was voldus, the GM and one paladin. He still had 4 genestealers, 3 drill guys with a third carrying an icon, 20 or so neophytes and the Magus. with two turns to go it was looking bleak, the neophytes were running like all hell was chasing them and it was going to be a struggle to pin them down before the game ended on turn 5. The other guy said we were at the action movie stage, can our three heroes fight through the horde of extras to save the city? The stakes were high and the odds daunting, but there was hope. Voldus and the GM had gate, so one guy could jump around a turn. So off the paladin pops to his deployment zone to herd the neophytes to the right corner and cut off the left. The genestealers were dispatched with psilencer fire and gakky smite, and a few neophytes fell to storm bolter fire. The chase was on.

The GM dispatched the drill guys and Voldus charged in to the sacrificial neophytes sent to delay me. He smashed a few heads and on turn 4 the neophytes fell back towards their brethren. With laz fire Voldus was knocked down to one wound left having taken damage from rending claws earlier. The Paladin moved close to get gated again to the far right corner to create a pincer. The neophytes had nowhere to run, in front lay voldus and a GM, behind them stood the last paladin. Voldus charged in again, but took a grenade (or lazbolt) to the face and went down. This is the emotional climax of the action film, where the commander falls, the situation looks truly lost, but our heroes dig deep for one last surge of strength.

As time starts running out, with one squad of 9 neophytes in the centre of his deployment zone (the squad voldus charged) and the squad with the relic and the Magus further back towards the right, the paladin 9” away in the back right corner, the dice would really have to fall well for the Emperor’s most dedicated servants to stop the virus bombing. The GM charges in after voldus and cuts down another 3 neophytes, but the paladin fails to charge. The neophytes fall back from the GM into a ruin, and the other neophytes (still with nine men) pass the bomb to the magus and line up in between him and the paladin.

Here we are at the beginning of my turn five, the last chance for our two heroes to save the day and avenge their fallen brothers:

The biggest problem is the spread of neophytes stopping a charge to the magus, but if there’s anything the Grey Knights do well, it’s shooting infantry. Between gakky smite and the psilencer and storm bolter, both squads are halved, a gap opened up on both sides, but there are still neophytes, it’s going to be a long charge to walk around them. The Paladin declares a multi-charge. It’s 4” to the neophytes, but 7” to walk around to the Magus. The dice roll, an 8! He gets inbetween them. Then comes the GM, for him it’s a 10” charge to get around the neophytes in the ruins, but he does have First to the Fray, giving him a charge reroll. He makes it in, there’s still a chance in the very last phase to save the Emperor’s flock! The GM splits three attacks into the neophytes and two into the magus. He smashed down the Magus, but only one neophyte. They have objective secured, if they aren’t eradicated they will hold the relic and all will be lost. Now it comes to the Paladin. With his three brothers being cut down before they could do anything, he has put in a real shift since, and it all rests on him. Three attacks to try and force a moral check. Two neophytes go down, leaving two left. Despite the huge odds against the Grey Knights after letting myself be ambushed, I had managed to get to a situation where the game hinged on a single dice roll in my favour. Having lost 7 neophytes this turn, a roll of one on the moral test was the only thing that could save the GSC. We removed the second neophyte as he had to run, then came the roll. No CP left on either side.

A six! The last neophyte scrambles away from these silver gods who had slaughtered his mutant brethren.

The day is saved, our heroes pull through in classic action movie style, leaving the board looking like this at the end, with only two neophytes left the threat had been neutralised and the virus bomb secured!

Maybe not the best practice for a tournament, but a huge amount of fun and a great turn-around, back-from-the-brink story.

Yeah those I think. Bullet magnety didn't really matter when you have ork shooting to face By accident he had pretty much perfect tool against my army. As it is if he had wanted to be really evil he could have simply skited ~24" away from my army and shoot my army to death but he was worried maelstrom cards would be bad and grots would end up winning. Though he was already ahead by points there so not really even that fear. From ~24" no way I COULD do anything(shooting sucks, can't reach him in h2h except rolling double 6 for charge roll with stompa assuming he didn't degrade it first go) and when he's doing ~20 mortals in average per turn(plus rest of the army) I would last in average 4 turns with my walkers even if rest of shooting goes elsewhere...

Yeah terrain looks bit sparse compared for example to our last game where there were several buildings that could even block LOS to warlord titan.

Albeit too much is not good either. Too much and warlords go for junk and knights get major boost

There is never too much, as you can blow it up when it starts to annoy you

In this case there wasn't too much in there because everything is still under construction, game being new and stuff. I'd probably use at least thrice as much to feel good about it, when the collection accumulates.

Kill Team: CSM vs Death Watch vs Orks

First KT three-way, was more fun than expected. As the monkey in the middle, as well as being hyper-aggressive, DW came under immediate and continuous fire, but astounding armor saves saw 3 of the 5 vets survive and the frag cannon hold the central objective to victory. My Beseeched sniper heavy bolter *cough* autocannon *cough* poured four rounds of three wounds into that frag cannon, however the dude saved all 12 of them, thanks to judicious rerolling on the few that made it through. Irritating stuff but well played, power armor.

Meanwhile the Orks formed a dakka bunker and were content to toss rokkits at DW and grots at objectives, while the Chaos boys got their wires crossed and sat on two 1 VP objectives all game instead of pressing for the Ork's lightly-guarded 2 VP one. Doh.

In related news, CSM continue to feel really weak, while at the same time feeling like they have so much potential. 12 points for BS3, T4, Sv3 and transhuman seems legit ... until it hits the table and doesn't accomplish very much

Orks vs dark angels. Not optimized orks(I had warbikes) vs not optimized dark angel gunline. Went 2nd which pretty much killed any chance so was blown to bits but at least 85 stormboyz were fast enough that combined with him sacrificing rhino to get objective and moving tac squad and bikes too far I got into some h2h to roll some dice and not just take casualties. 10-7 for DA. We ran out of time at turn 4.

Ran into annoying issue. 60 of the stormboyz are boyz+3rd party jump packs. Those jump packs are BIG. Especially the ones with fumes coming out. Result: Don't fit to my movement trays...oops. Need new movement trays for these I think. Too bad no time to get for mega battle.

Then faced a Death Guard kill team in which his poxwalkers managed to make their injury rolls but none of his marines. That was weird. One of my priamris took not one but two supercharged plasma blasts to the face.

Game of at. Was doing okay dealing with his knights and reaver for loss of reaver on left. Then reaver on right had reactor melt down boom and marlord on left had his near max shields vanish due to reactor issues. Pair of volcano cannons hit taking near death and missiles finished . We didn't bother with vp count as it was clear victory for him. We both had same kill stuff mission and i had warlord and warhound left vs warlord, reaver and 2 warhounds.

edit: Funny note. Last game all 6 turns I had initiave(albeit first turn I was likely to get it rolling d10 vs d6). This game in 5 turn game I won 4 roll offs(d10 vs d10). The one time he won I used my once per game veteran princep personal trait to steal it back! I actually felt bit sorry for him doing that He constantly kept referring the roll off as formality and "for show" since I'll be having it anyway. Sure looked when even rolling 4(on d10) I managed to win it...Generally I just rolled 8's and 10's though.

Albeit it's not all good to have it. It's good in combat FOR SURE but in movement you often might want to move 2nd rather than 1st so it's not that big deal as it might sound(that personal trait is neat though as you can do it on start of any phase so if I want to move 2nd I can let him move and then steal it on shooting phase)

Legio Victorum vs Legio Mortis with serious knights support.

Knights were all rage tearing down 2 reavers and warhound but losing 9 of them in the process(after losing 6 to shooting). Titans exploding in your face or falling over you is serious occupational hazard! One of my warlord ended up in hairy situation with power fist armed reaver in his face and tearing both of warlords arm guns off...Emergency repairs and normal repairs managed to fix both though and before fist got chance to attack the warlord fired at the reaver point blank despite being hit himself if weapons don't miss! Which they didn't. Took out reaver but caused serious damage to warlord and reaver collapsing on warlords arms caused even more damage. Despite shields being nearly full strenght my warlord was nearly dead...

Elsewhere his warlord had retreated after being nearly crippled by initial salvo so my second warlord was chasing him. Pretty weird my slowest titan ended up in his deployment zone preventing him from scoring his objective. At the end our warlords were trading fire point blank with full repairs. Game ended at turn 5. Wonder if one side would have taken out other...If Mortis warlord would die it would have been massive win. As it is Mortis won and would have won more convincingly if warlord died. But I think it wouldn't die. He could always remove void shield safety valves at times giving him 2+ save(albeit one 1 and shields go out for good).

Bloody good game. 5 games of AT, all have been tight(and this with 365 pts point difference!) and loser has been due to making more mistakes.

Initially I wasn't that hopeful going against that many Primaris units, I've always been an advocate of mixed Marines rather than pure-Primaris.

I managed to get first turn, and immediatly the body count went up. Leviathan killed the Redemptor first turn, Hellblasters killed his Hellblasters, who then shot back with the Ancient's ability and killed my Hellblasters. Repressor failed to do anything to the Leviathan, and promptly died next turn, with it's final wound taken by Lias' monstrous Boltgun. Reivers held up the Aggressors enough while his Inceptors wiped out the ML Devs, before they too were cut down by the Leviathan.

Alltogether it was a very exciting game, but I think it was entirely determined by whoever got first turn. The picture shows the progress, I think it was taken around Turn 2. Anything not on the board is a casualty.

First of all: Sweet Zombie Jesus people need to learn to resize their pics in this thread. It's completely un-viewable on my tablet, so I have to use my dinosaur of a PC, and even then some of the pics here are showing up as two whole screens wide!

Second: last game played was a Death race scenario of Gaslands against my dad (who I am teaching, as living next door to my parents will be even better if I can get my father to be a regular gaming partner). Excuse the horrible resolution from my crappy stock tablet camera.

"By this point I'm convinced 100% that every single race in the 40k universe have somehow tapped into the ork ability to just have their tech work because they think it should."
