I have always loved this model, it just oozes bad ass style with a Captain that is so comfortable with his ability to kill that he is relaxed even when faced with terrifying enemies. Totally unfazed, calm and stern..


However I have always been disappointed that GW never did a Bolter with the Magazine going through the Pistol grip (in an UZI style), just like in the picture above. It would look awesome on Character models.

hmm. that would look cool. I hate the shrike model- It's meant to be "I am a SM ninja, with super-awesome claws and you cannot see me."
It's more like "catch me when I land, I'm shrike the ballerina."
anyway, on topic, I agree. I like the old bolt pistols (the chunky ones)

The magazine isn't going through the grip, actually.

Look towards the back, situated against his hip.

That's the grip. He looks to be either holding a foregrip, or just having his hand grasped around the magazine well.

Plus, this doesn't belong in 40k Background.

Well I think the Bolter Debate does belong in 40k Background. I want to know if this is an UZI style bolter or just an elongated bolter with the trigger right at the back?

The Trigger looks too far back in my opinion. If he held the bolter properly (like a tactical Marine it would look really wrong..)

You asked if it's an UZI style bolter, to which the answer is: it clearly isn't, since the magazine well is forward of the grip/trigger assembly.

As for why GW hasn't done it...probably because it looks ridiculous and there's no real fluff supporting a "grip clip" for a bolt weapon. The grip would have to be almost two-handed size. It would look like the Grot model that had a pistol as big as his head.

As an aside, there are autopistols, SMGs, and laspistols with the clips in the grip.

I see what you mean. That would be pretty cool! Space marines have big enough hands to hold onto the clip, so It would make sense. It makes it easier to reload to, I think.

It makes aiming a pain in the ass too. There's a reason why there's nothing bigger than the UZI/MAC-11s with a clip in their grip.

No real point in having a pistol that big either! Two handed pistol for an Astartes=megafail.

Beretta CX4 Storm carbine has it in the grip, and its around the size of a short AR-15. However, the reason the CX4 has a grip mounted magazine is its based off the workings of the PX4 pistol. I know its available in 9mm and .40 cal, possibly .45 cal as well.

No, IRCC this is a Games day Captain from years back almost RT years. I don't own one, I wish I did as they for £50 plus ($75) on Ebay. I had one back in the 90's when i stupidly went to University and went I haven't used these models lets sell them.. do'h.. You know the old Sergeants and Veterans from 2nd edition still make fantastic conversion projects, I have a Honour Guard made of loads of them. They are expensive though, but you can buy a painted ones and strip them (like I did!)..You know I think i am going to make some UZI style Bolters as I have always thought it looks cool...Out with the Greenstuff and glue standby for prototypes...

Kanluwen, I can see the pistol grip now right up against his hip. It seems that it is too far astern of the Magazine Housing. That said I still like the Idea of Uzi style one for Characters as they would be driving for CC rather than standing back putting down pinpoint fire like a Sternguard.

ooh! the company that does that "uzi style boltgun" is battlefield live- good fun, but very pricey. every "life" costs £1. you lose a life per 30 seconds, so it isn't worth it. Anyway, The bolter would look cool with a better-looking, more prominent, clip. (like in the character conversion set bolt pistols)

Now I wanna make a Uzi-style Heavy Bolter.

Hey if you made a matched pair and put them on a SM model with robes (Looking at you Dark Angels) you could have some kind of Cypher/Neo hybrid.

I used to take this guy back when you had to take a commander as a required unit, but all I wanted to field was masses of tactical marines. I liked that his sword was sheathed, so I didn't have to pay for a powersword upgrade, and could just use him at base cost. This is John, my extremely generic commander who comes equipped as-is and leaves more points to spend on squads. That's why I loved that figure.

It is the Games Day '91 Captain. Happily, I attended and still have mine.

A friend who went with me never even removed his from its blister. Must be well valuable.

Heh... does that marine actually have fingers inside his gauntlet or did they get chopped off for getting in the way of the bullets?

Hey don't get all realistic on me, this is 40k where daemons materialise and people are psychic etc etc ... I do need to flesh out the layout abit and get it right, however it gives the impression of an UZI Boltgun...

i like your idea but for the execution i think you should cut a bit between bolter and hand off and glue them tighter together... the line from bolter to the mag has a unusual curve/bend thats recognizable...i really like your idea but i think your only half way through. also are´nt there straighter mags around? i wouldn´t use a curved mag for a utilike bolter...

Yeah agreed, but unfortunately I didn't have a magazine that would be appropriate in my bits box...So i went for the nearest approximation and it gets across the idea, at the end of the day it was only a prototype!

That's actually not true. There are plenty of pistol caliber carbines that have magazines in the grip, most notably the Hi-Point 995 and the Kel tec sub-2000.

i think its a very cool idea. also i would love to see a john woo kind of SM wielding two of these beasts^^. but one thing further? what about the mac10 design instead of a uzi like bolter? you could add a bit of muzzle to the bolter and it would even look like a silenzed bolter uzi/mac...
i would recommend reading gitsplittas blog of the matis warriors...
he has done these fine looking silenced weapons...

both ideas would be super cool...that mp5 is a good punch in all baddys face ^^

what about this design? its a MP7, quite new on the market as i was told and packs a punch like a mule...

BTW has anyone noticed that Sgt TELIONS Bolter looks like a Silenced Weapon, I know its a Stalker pattern Bolter but it looks great.
