I just watched that movie last night, and I really liked it. It was a bit difficult to wrap my mind around the back in time/forward in time stuff, especially with Frank, but I eventually got the jist of it.
Anyone else enjoy this movie?
Also, I know what I want to be next Halloween...

I enjoyed it, very mind-fudgery.

A buddy of mine.who knows I enjoy "bizarre" films recommended it to me..I watched it and thought it was ok.
I reciprocated by letting him borrow my copies of "Eraserhead" and "Pink Flamingos"...
Ne returned them the following day, stating I should "seek professional help."

I liked Donnie Darko a lot.

To be honest though, I pretty much ignored all the time manipulation stuff, and just saw it as a story of teenage isolation. The latter is extremely well done, the former is pretty imaginative but, well, just kind of pointless.

I think this is why the original edit is much better than the directors cut, as the director really just wanted to throw loads of tedious exposition about his little metaphysical world at us, while the original edit focused on the human story.

Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion.

To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I enjoyed it. It had a creepy vibe to it that stuck with you long after you watch it.

However the "sequel" S. Darko should be avoided at all costs. It is a freshly laid piece of excrement. Just FYI.

I have to agree. I saw S Darko in the bargin bin, so I bought it and... well... it was pretty crap.

The first one was good though. As Sebster mentioned, it worked as a good human story. I personally quite liked the time travel/metaphysical aspects as well.

The day after my friend and I watched Donnie Darko, I actually started S. Darko on Netflix. After like, the 4 minute long opening of just the desert, we turned it off.
Glad I didn't keep watching after he went home

Rubbish. Over rated rubbish in my opinion. Script and director weren't smart enough to carry off the premise.

I won't disagree it was/is overrated but I wouldn't go so far to call it rubbish. I think the original is a bit of better film making than the Directors Cut. I didn't see it initially but remember there being a lot of positive word of mouth and when I finally saw it thought it was interesting but not some mind-blowing experience.

That's where I saw it. My room mate and I saw it after we saw the original. we kept watching, expecting an ending that would bring it all together- an Ah Ha ending or some such but it completely failed to deliver making me sincerely want those two hours back.

Yeah, that's about the sum of it. It was pretty over-hyped a few years after it came out, but it is still a good movie.

A small movie, admittedly, with a quirky story, some really good lines and a great mood.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another.
