I've seen people use the Dark Elf Cold One Riders to good effect, swapping out the elves for Guardsmen. Alternately, Empire Outriders work well - I've seen people just put on Guard torsos, heads, and arms on top of the Empire legs to good effect.

Check out my Youtube channel!

Stalkers front and centre. Bases still need some work but they're otherwise done. Who needs squishy animals when you can use the Omnissiah's blessing!

I agree, the RR lineup is one of the most brainbusting parts of any 40k army....they seem completely out of place! I like the idea of mounting them on bikes, I think it works nicely. Bikes, seem like an obvious choice for the IG, yet their list is void of them.

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress
800 points of unassembled Urban themed Imperial Guard
650 points of my do-it-yourself Tempest Guard
675 points of Commoraghs finest!

Lord Helmet - "I bet she gives great helmet."

I use coldones, I recomend holding out on ebay for someone selling just the cold ones, espically if you dont do fantasy, as sometimes a big batch comes up.

How about IG on bikes? Every other army has them, why not IG?

Nah, there are plenty. Even on a wasted world like Krieg. (Although they put gasmasks on them.)

I for one will be using the seekers of Slaanesh mounts with Empire legs and cadian torsos, modded as need be. I think the cold ones are too chunky, but the seekers are nice and sleek.

Horses are great for colonists though. Self repairing, self replicating scouting and farm machinery and they can survive on food that people can't eat

GW sell some of the Fantasy range of Mounts seperately from their riders, so you can pick them up for a fraction of the price of buying the entire kit.

And you can eat them if you need to.

I use cold ones and old warzone minis for the legs though they could easily be converted from regular guardsmen legs:

What is he riding?

Anyway, seeing the chance for some shameless self-promotion, I dug out a very dusty box which contained a similar project I became tired of (curse my short attention span!) and uploaded these pictures for you to take a looksie at.

Pretty much fit exactly what you're looking for; mounted Cadians. I used the Empire Pistolier horses, legs and some other of the boxset's bits (the "Sergeant's" [actually a Cadian noble ;D] power sword and cape, for one]. From the Cadian sprues I used all my spare laspistols, heads and a platoon standard... There are ten in total but I wasn't taking pictures of all of them.

Oh and the lances are Fire Lances from a website I think was called "Assault Weapons"?

Since I had all the bitz, barring the pistoliers, kicking about, ten of these guys cost about £30ish

I have done the same as Henners91.
Mine are all painted though. I'll see about some pictures tomorrow.

While I have indeed used horses, I actually find the concept of horses in the 41st millennium rather laughable.

Consider this;

1. A motorcycle requires little to no maintenance/feeding during a month long (or several months of) space travel.

2. A motorcycle can be put into a rather small box and stacked with its fellow motorcycles.

3. A damaged motorcycle doesn't get any worse (or risks dying altogether) if left without repair for extended periods.

4. The average guardsman gets to eat nutrient gruel and drink recycled water all day long. 'Nuff said.
