Ok, so I want to move on from Chaos Black/ Boltgun/Mithril Silver Drybrush onto something a bit more unusual-does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking maybe..

1) Brown/Bleached Bone
2) White/Flat Black
3) Flat Black/Silver (or Gold)-a la Black Legion
4) Light Grey (like Codex Grey)
5) Bronze /Brass with some Verdigris (for Immortals maybe)

So, what are your opinions on 'Crons colours? Do you like any of these suggestions? Do you have something better?

Thanks in advance...

I like the non-metal looks myself. Too many silver/gold/bronze necrons out in the wild.

Something unique is always nice.

I went with a boltgun metal base with a dip on my warriors simply for the ease and speed of getting them done. With 10-12 warriors per squad and needing at least 2 squads I wanted something very fast and easy. Other units with fewer numbers will get more work.

I thought I could do something similar , but with Bleached Bone, followed by matt varnish . I've been dipping Orks..why not 'Crons?? I just wanted to get away from all-metallic..

In the back of the necron codex there are a variety of differen schemes that folks came up with. I like the ceramic looking ones, personally, and would do something like that if I was doing necrons. Take a look in the back of the dex to see what is possible.

Cheers

I'm re-doing my warriors (90+) and decided on a mismatch approach. I based in CB and brushed Chainmail. From there I put green ink on the rune, on the spine (front and back), where the neck "pistons" are, and a tiny bit on some of the joints. Then I drybrushed a little chainmail on the mid part of the spine and a stroke over the pistons and joints so that the green looks like it is glowing from underneath. From there, my most used technique to make the army look somewhat coherent is to wash sepia over many of the pieces, avoiding the joints. It takes two ore three wahes, but it ends up looking like a very light gold. Next, I take all the metallics and paint different pieces on each warrior, avoiding joints and "bones." So, one may have the wash on the chest, a silver and tin arm, a chainmail and bronze leg and a mithril face, and, underneath it all, a greenish glow. I don't use gold, as that is used to distinguish my lords.
It sounds really laborious, but it isn't really, especially if you take it a color at a time and just kind of pick and choose. You can use devlin mud to add some "age" to different parts as well. You could also add "ceramic" parts, but I think that looks a little too mish-mash.

I second the ceramic look. They were always my favourites from the codex. Metallics are kind of too easy

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I'm painting mine to have rusted bodies with black or dark colored heads and shoulders but am painting an energy field passing over the model (like Tau stealth Suits) that will be removing the rust so parts of the model will be rusted the rest will be prestine.

You could do other environmental effects like this. One of the DoW books (I know not cannon) had Necrons rising up out of lava so you could paint apart of them as if the metal is really hot. Or you could do something as if the world they where entombed on is a swamp world and so they have like mold and waterlines. Maybe just think about differant environment effects you could do.

I like ceramic 'crons. I hate rusty necrons as only iron rusts. NECRONS AREN'T IRON NOR ARE THEY SUBJECT TO OXYGEN OR WATER IN SLEEP.

Tell us how you really feal

Actually all metals are subject to corrosion (many of which are similar to the effects and appearance of rust) although iron and its alloys are the only metals where such corrosion is called rust.

Also I've seen nothing partaining to the conditions in which Necrons are stored. If you have I'd love to see it because I'm always looking for new fluff sources?

"living necron metal which is not only self-repairing but is capable of adapting its structure to resist incoming attacks"
I don't think it is iron, nor does it corrode in any way.

I would tend to agree. Also note...they are kept in stasis tombs, not buried in the bare dirt. It would be safe to say that these stasis tombs maintain a perfect atmosphere to keep any sort of corrosion from taking place. I would also figure if corrosion did happen to any notable degree that it would trip the auto repair system and be removed.

If you decide to do rust be carefull, people will call it unfluffy and say it shoulden't be done but in the end you paint your models how ever you want because people don't have to paint their models to fit the fluff. Especially when rust and other effects have been displayed in the codex itself.

Looking forward to see what you come up with

Oh and, the above quote is taken from the Monolith section. Nothing says that the Warriors or any variant of their kind are composed of the same metal that fluff says is used for space ships, structures, vehicles and C'tan.

I'm not sure what you think I did but I and anyone else can still paint our Necrons any way we want regardless of wether you hate it or not and regardless of the material used to make them. And after reading through the codex absolutly nothing says that the metal cannot suffer from corrosion which could be attained during a prolonged battle. And the Necron do not constantly repair themselves as there is fluff example of unactivated Necrons being damaged and not repairing themselves.

To prevent taking this thread any more off topic I suggest that we drop it and get back to helping the OP come up with his own scheme regardless of your own personal opinion. wouldn't you agree?

A person at my FLGS has Neon Orange Crons, they look awesome, they really stand out on the table, and if you get different colored energy tubes, it even adds to the coolness. (Not sure where to but I've seen em.)

Y you mad bro?
I'm still on topic discussing painting necrons.
Depending on how courageous you are, if you have a codex, I would try those sexy red or blue with silver crons from the codex. It would be a lot of work but a finished army would look sexy.

I go for simple Shining Gold. i decided not to undercoat as it allows a little grey through as though they are old. Also very quick and simple.

Well if you want to do a brass color really quick and have it look good just use P3 Brass Balls and give it a good Devlan Mud wash and highlight with the brass. For the verdigris just water down some Hawk Turquise to a wash or ink and apply in the recesses..

I opted to go with a bright green semi-glossy plated look. With very dull black mechanics.

This is the only picture I have, and it's of the original paint tester I just slopped stuff on as a proof of concept. So please ignore the gross thickness of the paint and overall rough painting.

Another way to think about personalising your necrons would be through modeling details, e.g.
