I have basically 3 armies right now: Sisters, BA, and a small GK force which I hope to expand once the new codex comes out. The main problem is that basically none of them are painted yet. While I'm not exactly looking forward to painting up 120+ power armored dudes and dudettes, this at least gives me the opportunity to turn them all into one big cohesive army. I know the gaming opportunities for this will be limited (Apoc....and that's basically it). As a very quick backstory, the BA and GK forces I'm leaning towards modelling as an Exorcist detachment assigned to an ex-Inquisitor turned Rogue Trader. The Sisters travel with him and officially are among his forces as well, although they also keep a vigilant eye on the trader as a few of his enemies within the inquisition suspect him of heretical leanings. As they are basically the rogue trader's personal army, he has them painted up in his own colors, with certain aspects still nodding to the armies' origins.

So. I have too many ideas and I need to start narrowing them down.

I already have 2 tac squads from AoBR and Macragge painted in a rather gaudy dark metallic gray (darker than in the painter pictures) and flourescent safety orange scheme, as shown below. The cloth on the marines is done up in blue like on the sisters. I like it well enough, although I'm not too sure about the red shoulder pad on the marines (to represent the exorcists) and I'm not too certain about all the color placements or trim colors on the sisters. I worked up the sisters scheme after all the other ones further down just to try it, but I ended up liking it a LOT more than I thought I would. Can't quite decide whether to with blue or black on their torsos. Bright orange bewbcups would be hilarious, but I'd lean away from it. Maybe on a canoness I also have no clue where I'd go with this with death company or GKT. Input on those fronts would be appreciated. I think vehicles would be pretty straightforward though. The major problem with this scheme is that the orange, at least how I've been doing it so far, takes a helluva long time to paint.

My other major thought right now would be to go with a more or less black and white scheme. I like the black and bone, as it gives a somewhat ominous, skeletal look which I REALLY like. Another thought of mine though was to so them in a ceramic-looking black with pearlescent white, which could end up looking nice and cool and clean. What I'd need help with on this one is fleshing it out a bit more. Both the marine and sister schemes need fleshed out in terms of trim and whatnot, including the armor trim, icons/aquila, and all the cloth colors. All of the pure white areas on the sisters are up for debate; consider corresponding areas on the marine to be as well. One of my thoughts was to do their cloth in varied bright colors or even a tartan scheme as a Celtic/Boudicca-themed force, but I'm worried that that would both clash with the rest of the army and take an ungodly amount of time and effort to paint. Could end up looking REALLY cool though. I hadn't had many other thoughts on the trim color there, other than that I tried mechrite red and it looked kind of gakky. For DC I'd probably go with a pure black, or maybe pure white. Vehicles again wouldn't be too bad, unless I went with the SoB army of Boudicca.

I'll add a few pics of the tac marines I started in the first scheme when I get a chance.

Black and white gets my vote - classy! Splash of red is always nice too.

I'm leaning towards the second choice as well.

I dig the black and bone look. It gets badass points for the skeletal vibe, provides nice contrast, and the ivory/bone tinge keeps it from having too stark a contrast (Oreo Marines? No thanks...). As for trim colors, I wouldn't worry too much. The way you have it in the painter works pretty well - a nice, deep red pad for the marines can mark them as Death Company without clashing and the pure white trim and cloth on the Sister is downright classy.

I would probably end up doing the trim on them either in a gold/dark silver. This would work across all three areas. Some BA successor chapters have gold as trim, while GK are either Silver/Gold (Gold GK look sexy to me), and the SOB can be a bit gaudy as well. I think also a nice way to tie the whole army together is to make their right shoulder pad havea uniform color scheme and maybe even a symbol to represent your "Rogue Trader Inquisitor." It can be something simple or complicated depending on your skill with either a knife (decals) or paints.

I personally would try and go for as much red on the BA as possible, while still doing the uniformed shoulder pad, but to each their own. Actually you could always make your secondary color a type of red, possibly a darker red (red gore?) to which it wouldn't contrast too much and you could argue that the BA chapter is part of the Flesh Tearers/Angels Vermillion? Just some ideas I am spit-balling.

You could definitely do each army seperate in a color scheme, just give them all a unifying symbol (i.e. all the same shoulder pad), although I believe this defeats your main intent, which is to limit the amount of variation.

Thanks for the advice guys! I'm definitely leaning towards the black/white/bone now too. I whipped this up to bring the marine a bit more in line with how the sister looks.

I do like the idea of the metallic trim too. I might use that for sergeants/honor guard and whatnot, and maybe the GKT. As for the white, I'm thinking now that I'll probably do the hard white as a pearlescent/metallic white, and possibly use that on the cloth too. I'll try do a test mini or two and see how it looks.

Another thing I'm really liking about the black/white/bone is that I think it will lend itself a lot more to doing extensive decorations on the vehicles, like murals and/or squadron-spanning icons, which I'd really like to try.

I like the third one, save for both trims should be the same color.

A black and white scheme gives maximum potential to trim individual squads/squad types, etc. Also it looks pretty neat and should be pretty easy to basecoat
