In order for a Greater Daemon to enter the game it must posses a Champion,Aspiring Sorcerer,Sorcerer of Chaos or Chaos Lord

Champion means can it be a Aspiring Champion(i.e. one Chaos SM Asp. Ch. or one Chosen SM Asp. Ch. or MUST it be a Champion like Terminator Champion,Plague Champion ,Skull Champion etc.)

Because a Greater Daemon costs 100 points + a Chosen Asp. Ch is 128 or with a Chaos SM Asp. Ch. is 130 BUT with one Terminator Champion is 140 or with Plagu Champion is 100 +23+15 =138

Can't wait to see what you're thinking

Myself and my regular gaming buddy play it that it can posses a regular aspiring champion - so in my Death Guard army it more often than not enters via an unfortunate Plague Champion.

Not 100% sure that this is correct however.

If it has "Champion" in the title, then it can be possessed, meaning:

Aspiring Champion
Terminator Champion
Plague Champion
Noise Champion
Skull Champion
Possessed Champion, etc.

Interestingly a Chosen Aspiring Champion is 28pts, and a Possessed Champion is 36pts. By comparison a regular Chaos Space Marine Aspiring Champion is 30pts and a Terminator Champion is 40pts.

You can possess any of the squad upgraded guys and anything independent except special characters, other demons and demon princes.

Furthermore I don't think of it in terms of point spent to bring him in, but the damage he can do. Popping in a greater demon to deal with a threat next to an important unit is normally better than trying to sacrifice the lowest costing model.

I recall it being able to possess chaos lords and sorcerers as well, but that might be an earlier edition.

Good advice...not the points cost..but where is more needed...I would not want to sacrifice a Skull Champion with power fist...but the strategy looks good

The special characters are definitely Chaos Lords. Greater Daemons and Daemon Princes are conspicuous by their absence on the list of what may be possessed.

Also, I commend the point about bringing the Greater Daemon in where it'll do the most, rather than trying to save a few points.

I could have sworn you could bring it in on special characters, but at the time I couldn't find the part were it says so in the codex, could you point me in the right direction please?

A far as I remember you mus sacrifice a Champion, cost of a Greater Demon is 100 pts.

So give up 1 Aspiring Champion minimum pts are 15 pts for a CSM + Champion +15 + 30 pts. +100 pts for Demon.

Thats 130 pts for a basic demon, not a bad choice for a Greater Demon.

I prefer a Chaos lord in Termi Armor, with a Khorne Demon Sword for the pts, he has better close combat skills.

A Nurgle Demon is great for toughness...about the same as Khorne.

Tzeentch- If you like magic/psionics here is your hero.

Slanesh- Is great for close combat but nothing else, second best to Khorne.

Chaos rules you all drool! Blood for the Blood God!
10,000 pts Black Legion
2,000 pts Traitor Catchian Guard (1067th).
8,000 point Sam Hain Eldar.
2,000 pts Squat Biker Force.
1,500 Orc Hoard (painting for a friend).

Summoned Daemons are covered on p.61 of Codex: Chaos Space Marines. Chaos Lords are covered on pp.66-67.

Wait, are you saying when you sacrifice the unit the greater demon gains it's equipment?

I think he's saying he prefers a Lord in Termi armor, as opposed to the greater demon for points cost vs. what it can do.
Greater Demons do not get any of the wargear from the model they are replacing.

That would be cool if they did.

That would be sweet, actually. It'd be a neat consolation for all the points spent on wargear for the dead guy. Might be a little bit broken if you possessed a guy with Wings or a Jump Pack, though.

Well two GDs do have wings. What would be broken is if you give it a Power Fist or it suddenly starts riding on a Khorne Juggernaut, or gains Terminator armor with a Daemon Weapon.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Yeah, because nothing says "flavour" like counting as Jump Infantry for the purposes of movement.

Gamewise though it would be nice if they had options like the Chaos Daemons Daemon Prince, with Psychic Powers replacing equivalent Daemonic Gifts.
