Been a Dark Angel fan for a long time and have steadily grew a sizeable amount of Space Marines since I got back into the hobby a few years ago. My first batch of Dark Angels were painted rather badly and I never really liked them. So with a new year I plan on re-doing all of my Dark Angels that I currently have to get a field able army out of them by the tears end.

So onto what I have:

Command Squad
5 Man Dev Squad
5 Man Dev Squad
Tac Squad
Tac Squad
Tac Squad
Scouts (about 9 or so)
3 Dreadnoughts
11 Terminators
10 Space Hulk Terminators
Librarian in Terminator Armour (Space Hulk)
Terminator Captain
Ravenwing (about 2 or 3 bikes, mainly to experiment final Ravenwing Scheme)

I also have a warhound titan I'll be working on as well.

So far I have managed to complete 4 of the Terminators. Sorry for pics, my phone isn't the greatest camera and I don't have access to a digicam...yet

I have also began work on the Liberian

With the Deathwing, how ever, I found the way in which I did the armour on this lot too a long time to complete and I would lose interest fast. With that in mind I tried something new focusing on using washes to achieve great effects and with a minimal amount of colours/blending needed.

Both ways I like, and I would like your input as to which you prefer (new way on left)

New style is a lot darker/gritter than the old way and, I believe, gives the model a more "in the field" look. As opposed to straight out of the factory.

Anyway, comments and crit are always appreciated.

Termies look good in the "darker" style. Libby seems to be coming along nicely as well. Look forward to seeing where you go with them.

I prefer the lighter style of terminator, the darker one seems just... unfinished you know. The details don't look as good on it.

Also liking the streaked Deathwing armour, is it a hard technique to do?

I agree with wizard - the lighter one is better. As he said the darker one looks unfinished.

Lovely 'dark' style but i cant help but think the Termies are more 'Death guard' and less 'Death wing'. I like the lighter termie btw.

Both termies look great, but I would go with a mix of green in your wash to help tie it into the other termie. So final highlighting could really help it pop, as well.

The Librarian is awesome.

Hey Fra3... I'm sure you don't want to hear it but I like the lighter one as well. Very dynamic... the colors give the figure more of a life of it's own.

Both styles are great though... very nice work.

Hahaha no worries mate. People like what they like.

Well I'm going to truck on and complete at least one full squad of terminators using the new armour recipe to see what the end product looks like.

As it stands I'm really like the dark and gritty feel they have. Almost like I've used oil paints or the such (I haven't). Thanks for the feedback though.

The streaking is really easy mate. Just take which ever colour you want and apply fine lines vertically on your model. I usually place them where the light would hit if the model was standing up with his arms at the side. Also I often let the shape of the model determine the curve of the line, if any.

I love the griminess(sp?) on the terminators. Lots of Dark Angels stuff going on lately...

The termies have a very bone-like look to them. How'd you do it?

Ok. Been busy painting more termies (thank you new update!)

And have managed to fully complete 2 of the termies I'm testing out my new deathwing recipe on.

Here is my favourite miniature completed so far.

Comparision between old recipe and new one. The new one actually takes about the same amount of layers/time to do the armour as I'm now thining my paint a hell of a lot more (you can probably tell that in this pic)

So what do you guys think?

I've got one more model completed besides that one and will take a group shot of everything so far in day or two (borrowed mrs camera!)

I'll also post up recipe then as well

Also, I'm currently in the need of about 5 missile systems for my terminator squads.

If you have any spare, please let me know. Along with I'd like a couple of terminator legs as well.

Beautiful stuff, I gotta go against the trend and say the darker style really suits the models. Also not really a fan of the purple for the power weapons, especially when you paint the blue so well.

The one on the right is better painted, and a much nicer model, but I am afraid I still prefer the lighter version. The dark just looks too dark for Deathwing.

Love the darker, watered-down one. Deathwing are bone-coloured, yes, but at the end of a long purge away from the Rock, they're hardly going to be minty-fresh. Love it.

Hmm.. so are Salamnders actually just minty-fresh Dark Angels?

@OP - Excellent work on the terminators. If you do more of the Space Hulk termies though I would recommend trimming away more of the Blood Angels iconography. Some of the bloor drops might be convertable into swords though.

I have to add a vote to the darker pattern. I think it's different from the norm and adds a real flavour to the minature that I don't often see on standard death wing. I have to agree with Lennysmash, I love purple in general but the blue seems to be coming out an awful lot better.
