There's a new hard plastic company in the works - think Mantic but for SF topics - 28mm heroic scale to fit in with GW sets.

I've been asked by the management (all former GW employees and one exec) to post on here and ask what armies you guys would like to see.

Anything goes at this point. The first sets will probably launch at the end of the summer.

Thanks,
G-B

Well I would like to see new Imperial Guard regiments.
If you can think of a nice theme for them you can provide some (hopefully) good models to replace the boring cadians i see all the time!

As much as I like to see new companies offering alternatives to GW am a little puzzled.

You hyave started 2 new topics prior to this one, criticising IG boxes (Female Guards and Heavy Weapons) then asking for opinions.
Would have thought it better etiquiette to have introduced yourself first and ask what people would like, rather than priming with your previous posts.

Hi Chibi - my first two posts were following up on the ideas I had on my own for what they're doing. This one is the unofficial "official" ask from the guys doing the company.

So you can ignore my bit!

....just to throw out some ideas. It would be nice to see a different take on the Ork range as well. I've never been a fan of GW's Orcs/Orks. Too short, big dopey heads, not muscular enough.

I would rather see something original than something that just fills perceived gaps in GW's range.

Beyond that, my only real criteria for being interested is that they be good.

Hmmmm... I'm thinking Tyranids but with a mechanical theme, ala that one tourney winning army a while back. Might be nice to have that for the masses, and the sharp angular style would (I think?) make it easier to model and detail.

Another idea: dig through the fluff for minor xenos races and make them, following an existing codex (with vague enough hints and pointers to avoid the ip hammer) for easy counts as armies that look sweet.

That could be cool.

One thing people always want is greatcoat guard. That one company produced a box of them, but in my opinion they are terrible. I know others feel this way as well. It's up to you to decide if you can do a better job than them. If you can make a greatcoat soldier product that nears Forgeworld or even just GW in quality, and is plastic, you'll be rolling in the dough.

Actually this is probably the most sensible idea...

From a purely personal perspective, I would love to see an affordable Steel Legion / Krieg alternative - however, it would need to be complete I think. The WGF troopers looked good but suffered from a lack of heavy weapons and command options.

Likewise, other alternatives fill the basic trooper function fairly well but don't have everything needed to be a credible alternative to the ruinously expensive FW stuff.

First off good luck to them, I'm always happy to see more plastics.

Sci-fi can be a tough nut to crack since, unlike fantasy, the archetypes are not as set and original creations can be hit or miss.

There were a lot of good thoughts on the Wargames Factory (RIP) forums:
http://wargamesfactory.lefora.com/forum/category/science-fiction-submissions/

And their Liberty and Union League:
http://www.wargamesfactory.com/league_sf

Especially take a look at the Liberty and Union League ideas that got to 100% pre orders. Those are fan ideas that actually got a commitment (no money down but at least a promise or interest) in buying 1000 sprues so those ideas have some breadth and depth to them.

For my ideas, I'd keep it simple to start with a near-future world with high tech oppressive humans vs low tech scavagers & mutants. Those are 2 easy archetypes with lost of variants.

The high tech oppressors would get some SWAT team light infantry, some Colonial Marine heavy infantry and some Star Ship Troopers (the book) realistic power armor. They'd also get some sort of APC or Hummer. Maybe some near future predator drones or terminator robots too.

The low tech scavagers would get some survivors/resistance fighters (ragged civilian clothes, crude but reliable weapons), ragged cannibal mutants from the sewers (cloaks, hoods, gas masks, knives), chemical zombies (cause everyone loves zombies) and big heavy outland cyborg/mutants. Also an armed civilian truck or big monster.

Why go this way? People can relate to humans in a way they might not to alien races. All the IP already exists and is easy to extrapolate without ripping off GW, Star Wars or Star Trek. The world can be expanded easily with an alien invasion, cyborgs or whatever. And people can and will use any of the ideas I listed in other games or just to paint.

I'd like to see:

-More Inquisition-themed stuff; perhaps Fanatics
-Plastic Stormtroopers, with Inquisitorial seals and other bitz to fit in
-Assassins; Plastic and very poseable.
-Lots of Church-related stuff and Adeptus Arbites

Thats what would get me interested.

Original would be nice, though from a money-making viewpoint, I should think units like Tallarn-a-likes and Praetorian-a-likes are guaranteed to sell. Also there is no copyright issue as long as you keep away from the Aquila and the Lasgun.

I would totally buy a nice Female Space Marine army, but it would need to "look right". That might be difficult to achieve within the copyright restrictions, also, people's ideas of how they should look are probably quite varied.

Making the figure 28mm "heroic" pretty much confined them to fitting in with GW.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Some female marines would be cool
Some guard along the lines of the valhallans. I love the idea & the models aren't half bad for being so dated but I hate working with metal & the price tag is nuts.

You know what would be great? 28mm scale motorcycles. They're just not available in decent models. Every one i've seen is either Reichsmark era or post apocalypse weirdo biker gang. It'd be nice to have some rough rider stand ins.

Flax turrets would be nice as well.

More female models would be nice to add diversity to the line up on all sides. Even some descent head sculpts would be great.

Weapon sprues such as shotguns and plasma rifles would be a great addition to any line up. Any sort of Heavy weapons as well.
