Imperial guard alternatives (of any variety) would also be great. Another thing, will you be shipping to the UK when you start production?

also bionics conversion packs for space knights, special weapons packs and character upgrade packs are also cool, any IG variation stuff (we are constantly told by GW fluff that the IG is as varied and mixed up as you would expect what with them coming from a billion worlds each with a distinct martial culture and evolved fighting style, this seems to translate as be as varied as you like as long as they look like cadians or catachans)

I like the space squids idea. Otherwise this sounds like this fledgling little company is heading towards a lawsuit... made worse by the fact that so much of hte staff is former GW.

Oh, absolutely... making GW-fit-ins is certainly the easier option. After all, someone else has already done all the design work for you. It still seems like the 'lazy' option, though... and I just don't see myself being as excited by someone releasing not-Tallarns as I would from seeing someone release sci-fi troops that (while potentially being able to be fit into the 40K setting) are something that we haven't actually seen on the table before.

Even without a specific setting, different human troop sets with sci-fied versions of historical uniforms are always a winner, in my book.
Really, I think what people are after with the constant calls for plastic Tallarns, or Steel Legion, or Praetorians (aside from those who just want to flesh out their existing armies) is something different. And there's an almost infinite range of possibilities for scifi human troops in different uniforms/armour/gear that would sell if they were well made.

I'd love to see a full range of steampunk soldiers that could be used as IG stand-ins while also filling the gaps for steampunk games. Having some modular characters would rock as well (for variety, like the IG command squads).

Squats: GW abandoned them... so do your own versions and run with it. They can use IG vehicles & list, so all you need is to fill the infantry ranks.
AdMech would be nice, not sure what to proxy them as list-wise though... guard again?
Amazons: (female space marines...)
Sci-Fi Rats (Skaven): the few people who've attempted these conversions have shown their potential, but they require a prohibitive amount of work to covert
There is no reptillian race in 40k... you might be able to come up with something to proxy into one of the xenos lists... eldar perhaps.
As you can see, I think a successful strategy would be to develop a line that has a planned fit into existing GW structure without blatantly copying an active GW line, thus avoiding some of the IP issues. Just a thought.

I'd really like to reiterate the following - sure it's cool to do some stuff that can be used in GW games, but don't dedicate your entire company to just filling gaps in the 40k range. Some of the more general and original ideas posted in these last couple pages (General sci-fi troopers, steampunk soldiers, future Prussians, etc.) would be a nice canvas to give your company its own identity rather than just aping what's popular right now. Even if you were to make a fairly well selling kit to stand in for something GW hasn't made yet, chances are that once GW actually releases that kit yours will stop selling.
Anyway, just my two cents. It would be nice to see a miniatures company that isn't just making thinly veiled knockoffs of 40k bits for once.

Really, most of these ideas sound like they are going to lead the company into temporary success and then into abysmal failure. Like the 'Different Countries IN SPACE" idea.
You would be better off coming up with your own completely original ideas rather than going off the majority what people post in this thread. The problem is most of whats posted here is specific to a handful of peoples tastes, rather than the true general population of miniature gamers.
For example, only a handful of people will truly care for colonial british IN SPACE. I happen to be included in this population, but this doesn't mean that a lot of others will. Quite the contrary, most won't. By following this 'trend' you are going to lead yourself into bankruptcy.
Its better to go for what you know/want, rather than going for what others want....

I think a good quality, multi-part, plastic squat / guard analogue would sell well. I'm about to start an IG army and would use squad models in a heart beat if they were available.
Failing that, chaotic looking human mutant IG style troopers.... for the same reason as above.

I'd love to have plastic desert warriors. As stated stay away from aguilas and lasguns for safety sake but make your infantry rifles either seperate parts or easily removable so I can replace them with, um whatever I want. It would be pretty slick if Cadian arms happened to fit onto the torsos and there were robes to drape over them afterwards

This. I'd prefer to see a line of miniatures that readily interfaces with GW materials for WYSIWYG. For example:
Wolves with Power Armor-style legs that would make TWC.
Modern infantry + enemy combatants that would roughly approximate Cadians and Tallarns when combined with weapon packs from FW. BTW, this is 2-birds with one stone as nobody makes good 28mm plastic modern minis, and there's a plethora of scale tanks that would work perfectly for counts-as IG armies.
Plastic evil demons that sort of look like Plague Bearers.
Human heads that would work for IG and SM. Useful for conversions, maybe a set of heads with berets? IMO the Cadian helmets suck. They look absolutely awful. Replacement heads would be nice.
This way, you stay out of hot water with GW.
