So what does everyone think are the top 3 competitive armies in the game right now? Also on the flip side what would be the 3 least competitive armies? Reasons for your opinion would be great.

There is always lots of this, and asking what best lists are.... And really a lot of it is up to the player.

I personally think Guard, Wolves and BA are best
while its hard to pick worst 3, Necrons don't do very well, Tau can be hard to win with and i think Demonhunters aren't very effective at the moment.... but Grey Knights coming out in a couple of months will change that.

Drunken Furries a.k.a Spehs puppies a.k.a. Space wolves
Vampires a.k.a. Necron Fist bumpers a.k.a. Blood Angels
Meatshields a.k.a Flashlight gunners a.k.a. Imperial Guard

Least compuetitive:
Necrons (without Dashofpepper being the Necron player ofc)
Daemonhunters
Tau

In my opinion:
Most competitive:
1 - Space Marines (Namely Blood Angels)
2 - Imperial Guard
3 - Honestly not sure...

Least competitive:
1- Necrons
2- Tau
3- ... not sure really.

Why I choose my top 3:
1 - I'm not going to cop out and say space marines are the love child of GW (... even though they are

) but I find space marines to be very versatile. You can really cater the army to be very strong at both CC and shooting.
2- Imp guard is very much like space marines except you have tanks instead of power suits of armor.

The 2 less competitive - I'm not saying Necron or Tau are bad, they have issues being older codex's... they are just harder to play and require a lot more thought before doing any actions. Both of these armies can get pretty screwed even on a bad deployment, but that doesn't mean they cant win.

I honestly dont think there are any "bad" armies, just players that need to learn the tricks to help them get better.

DaemonHunters and Crons prettymuch universally holds the least competitive ones, at least until their updates. Witch Hunters isquestionable. Tau is still usefull, but I'm not sure.

SW, BA and Imp Guard are definately the most competitive in my mind.

Tau struggle against mobile armies and horde armies. Faith heavy mechanized Sisters of Battle are still decent.

I think that the DA have become vastly more competitive with thew dawn of their new FAQ. Irons out a lot of their issues, same with the templars.

Nids are actually my "Bogeyman" army. I seem to struggle against them more than other armies.

I say the BA, SW and IG are the most competitive armies at present, but let's wait and see the new GK codex.

Im pretty excited about GKs. I just hope they dont make them SWx2. Thats probably going to happen. But we will see

Orks are powerful, though perhaps not in the top 3.

They have some kick-ass units though:

Nob Bikers
Killa Kanz (cheaper than terminators?!?!?)
Burna Boys

Not the be all and end all, but orks can hit hard when a list is designed well.

I do.

I fully believe that in a tourny setting with a properly built ork list they are extremely competitive. I really dont find blood angels all that good. Its just another marine army that can be taken down quick enough.

My opinion might be biased as i keep losing tournies to an ork player with my IG.

A well built blood angels army can give you serious problems. Ever had the joy of fast Baals flaming you to death? Not nice.

Gotta agree with IG, SW and BA. Though I personally don't hate BA and find them fun the play against, the other two are hell to play against.

As for the worst, I don't agree that nercons are that bad off. They have some very valid and strong stuff in their codex.

Playing against some SW lists as juraigamer says, is really not fun.

The dreaded missile spam is so disheartening to play against. Far too many shots at far too cheap a price.

The Nid book is bad overall, but the army is very competitive, even in light of the DE poison weapons.

It's definately Imp Guard, BA and SW for the top three. DE is the newest, but they're actually pretty balanced and not that over the top. Imp guard is also a bit understandable since they were bad in the last edition. However SW and BA is just crap. The most superstitious of the chapters have the best psykers as well as riding wolves into battle (which somehow makes them tougher than a chaos marine riding a warp-fueled metal daemon), Space Jesus, Mephiston the pseudo-daemon prince, and Deepstriking land raiders? And I havent even gotten to the chibihawk and spell-casting mecha.

The only time I have been properly thrashed, not just a loss - but a massacre on turn 3 - was against Nids. I have never had such a bad loss.

What army were you playing? was the nid player spammy/very, very, good? were you new?

Being massacred on turn 3 by one of the worst codices in the game only happens under unnusual circumstances.
