So I've decided to start building a "home field" for my Necron army. Things will be slow going but I'll keep this updated as often as possible. The plan is a swampy type of world with half-sunken Necron buildings and things around the board. I'm going to try to make it as detailed as I can so that's why it's gonna take awhile. I'm gonna start on the trees tonight, and if I like how they turn out i'll put them up here tomorrow hopefully!

methinks this is the wrong forum for this. This is for tutorials only, and placeholders are of no use. This would be better suited in the P&M blog forum.

Well I've started on the trees. I'm not particularly happy with how they are turning out though. I twisted wire which looks fine, however I'm not happy with the filler's looks. What is the best thing to use for a filler on wire trees? It may still turn out ok after painting but we'll have to see.

So I've got about 20 trees ready for their filler. They should be done by the end of the week, and I'll put pics of those up! Also bought the foam board and got it cut into sections for the map. I'm trying to figure out how I want the board to be laid out right now. Any ideas are welcome. Remember, it's a swampy/marsh world. Thinking of a river running down the middle longways with several fjords to allow units to cross, and many spots of water/mud with very little grass coverage on the map.

If you are still looking for a good filler, I've had some success rapping wire trees with masking tape and scraping plaster most kinds of filler putty. That way the putty/filler is just for bark detail, while the tape does most of the hole filling.

I am really looking forward to seeing this come together.

actually one of the guys at the game store showed me what he uses. 20 parts drywall or wood filler with 1 part pva glue and mix in water until its ice cream consistency. his look amazing. i havent had a chance to buy any filler yet though. he got the recipe from a white dwarf a long time ago. ill do plenty of WIP pics as soon as i start getting everything ready!
