So, my issue of WD arrived today (Blood Angels). Right off the bat, i'm snickering.

What's with the proportions of the marine on the cover? Specifically, why is his head so tiny? The only way he could actually fit in his armor is if either a.) His arms end somewhere around his elbows and his feet are in his hips, or B.) he's proportioned like Jack Skellington.

As a side note, his bolter appears to be chambered in, guesstimating, 125mm bolts. From the looks of his gun, he might be able to hold as many as 3 to 4 shells to a full clip.

C'mon guys, at least try.

Yeah.. he does indeed have a pin head, which is a shame because the artist obviously spent a great deal of time on it.

Even accounting for the man having an extremely small head, he looks to be about 9-10ft tall plus.

Agreed, he does appear out of proportion and I think it's also the main cover from the Blood angels omnibus novel?
i like the actual picture and technique but the teeny tiny head does put me off, like someone walking on those old school tin can stilts and wrapped in his dads power armour suit! :-)

Haha right yeah, or two hobbits inside the suit with one stood on the other's shoulders?

Whats the bat rep like this month, is it any better than last month's, which was perhaps the most fake battle report ever devised?

I'm certain what ever army the Blood Angels fought this month- the battle report marks them the clear and savage victors.

The cover art is from the Blood Angels omnibus, it's not new.

I'm partway through the issue, but it seems like it has more content than the last few. The Gav Thorpe article is somewhat interesting, and datasheets and missions are definitely nice things to put in the magazine. I wish it wasn't all bloodbloodblood all the time, but baby steps I guess.

It's Phil Kelly's Dark Eldar. Care to put a wager on that?

There's obviously a lot of BA stuff in there, and some nice stuff about campaigns, particually an Armageddon one that the studio are fighting.

Even though I don't collect them the Army Workshop on Blood Angels was actually pretty good and had enough explanation of the process behind creating a coherant army to be useful.

None of that matters though, at the end of the day we only buy it for the pictures.

Why couldn't Matt Wilson get a drink from the vending machine?

Let's just say that the BR answers the question of what to do when you have to write one that pits the 2 "flavour of the month" armies against each other...

A draw with practically no models left on the table. It was of course "an amazing game".

ive read most of the issue and found it pretty helpful, the way the two guys painted their armies with different techniques was cool.im still not 100% into the storm raven, though some conversions will probably tempt me.

Could anyone post a scan of the cover for purpose of review?

GW do not show it on their web site.

And yes he does appear to have a head the size of a pea, he must have arms like Mr Tickle to fit that suit.

Though I would have thought the cover was the least of the problems with WD today.

Wow!

I was going to say that SMs do have small heads compared to their body size, because their brains don't grow any larger than normal humans' do.

But that is one small head!!

Do you remember those comics like The Beano with a story about a human but inside his body it's all being controlled by little men pulling levers and stuff? The Numskulls they were called.

Anyway, that's what this SM looks like.

LOL....I don't know, you advocates of GW anatomical correctness (read: styling) are worrying about this "issue" NOW?.....I mean, it's not like they've suddenly dropped the ball on their usual delivery of the WH40K human form or something.

I could understand this level of ridicule if say, someone like Infinity came up with that as a sketch, maybe their new line of PanOceanian Knights or something, becuase they have made it almost a mission statement to make their models correct human proportions, but GW has never made this a number one factor in their designs.

While it's comical, I see no deviation from their standard fare. To be honest, you guys should be used to it by now

Man down, Man down....

Just take your thumb and index finger, hold it before the image of the head, and squeeze finger and thumb together repeatedly, shouting "I'm squeeshing your head."

It helps to make squishing noises as well.

It's the only new criticism. They have been slowly but surely drifiting on proportions on Space Marines for a while but I think this is where it finally - clearly - crosses the rubicon into ridiculousness.

Which is a shame because as others have said the style and execution is otherwise quite pleasing.

Given the timespan of how long White Derp has been around, it is no suprise they can execute this magazine to a high level of quality regarding the overall presentation (not the quality of content).

Hi all.
WD is the flagship publication of GW.
And it portrays exactly what you get from GW, style over substance, and a very abstracted view of the real world...

That was my first reaction with the WD, but you always get these types of issues, it's like why the most important of the space amrines go to battle without wearing a helmet, making that power armour basically useless.

NobleSeven has a good point, GW don't do it as much now (perhaps they've realised we know they're doing it on purpose) but it used to be the case that whichever army is the particular focus that month will win by a vast margin, obviously to make everyone think they're super awesome and then go and buy them. I'm glad they've stopped doing it now, as i used to not enjoy the battle reports like that. I have noticed however, that almost all the battle reports that they do happen to be annihalation and pitched battle deployment...

Sometimes the facts that the SM proportions are becoming ridiculous is glossed over quite heavily.
I refer you to page 84 of the current SM codex, which is even worse than the front cover of the WD. How big are those hands?!

If I am not in my room, is it still my room?

You seem to be saying that the SM has to grasp his purple helmet firmly with both horny hands to make it pop off.

Have I understood this correctly?

In my opinion this month's issue has been FAR more interesting than the fantasy battle loaded issues of the past few months. There's a lot of content instead of just great big pictures of skaven I still wish they'd just get rid of lord of the rings, though Also, anyone else see that bit when they're talking about the storm raven and how they'll explain about the grey knight parts in april? That's a pretty good hint.
