Subject: Prophets of Destiny: Tzeentchian CSM Army - An Incy Weety Update
|
 |
Sword-Bearing Inquisitorial Crusader
|
Well my last blog was infrequently updated and the pictures were on the whole rather poor. Now I have a helper to paint more minatures and I also have a makeshift lighting apparatus. So... with any luck this will have more regular updates with the aid of a fellow Dakkite; Lord of Change. This blog is the decendant of Lord of Change's old blog and my plog.
The Story So far...
Well it all began Lord of Change and I made an attempt at modelling some of the CSM he aquired some time last year.
Then I made an objective marker...
...And the Hive Fleet that wasn't...
I then Painted the Sorcerer
And a Salamander
And I began work on two Daemon Princes
And What's to come...
Well the first squad of CSM has been painted by Lord of Change so pictures will be uploaded by him tomorrow and I have finished painting (and modelling) the two Daemon Princes for the Army. I have also begun work on converting some Ogre Bulls to be Chaos Ogryns/Obliterators (with Lascannons and everything ) so expect some greenstuffing and modelling from me. Lord of Change will mainly be doing updates which are related to his painting.
I guess that is it. Feel free to critique the earlier work until I get some pictures up later this evening.
Yours
Gathering Storm (and Lord of Change)

That's not the only update. I told Monkeytroll a while back I would model a Slaanesh themed CSM for the army, so here it is-
I also finished detailing a Plasma Gun weilding marine:
And I finished painting and basing a Dreadnought
Keep in mind I only spent an hour and a half painting the model (from Basecoat) without any fine detail brushes.

Good to see you're still going
That is an impressively shiny gold you got on the slaaneshi guy
Like the look of the plasma guy, but think the sprouting growth's would look better if they looked more flesh-like and flexible, the bone colour makes them look more like solid horny/bony growths to me. (I could probably have fitted a few more 'look's and 'growth's in that sentence if I'd tried )

Of course, it has to be that bright and shiny if he's a devotee of Slaanesh.

The horns was Lord of Change's idea, he wanted their to be nine of them in total. I could have made them more growth-like but tbh, I was just drilling holes in the model and placing them in. I spent a lot more time reposing and converting the Slaaneshi Marine (repositioning bolt pistol, seamless join for mutated terminator arm, extra horn etc.) than I did on this one.

That's cool if he wanted horns, wasn't knocking the placement, I was thinking more of writhing tentacles bursting through the armour, and felt colour-wise they looked more horny than fleshy. Guess I'm more of a tentacle guy than a horn guy

The deamon prince looks nice, but I'd love to see a picture of his sword. Maybe try to work on his talons again? The ones popping out of his wings, I think they need some more attention.

I'll get a picture of the sword tomorrow, along with the other Metal-Plastic Hybrid daemon prince. Sure, do you want me to make them darker or crisper? I'll probably also add some more highlights and do a more even wash on the wings. Emperors_Champion wrote:Nice to see a thread with plenty of effort and enthusiasm! out of
Yeah, I just need to keep taskmastering Lord of Change to keep painting. Also good to see your painting style matches each others, I wish I had a buddy to share the load!
Well, he has the same painting style as me because I was the one who taught him the basics of painting. Little did he know it was all part of my hidden agenda to get him to paint his own models. You just need to find a victi... I mean volunteer to teach and get them to help you with painting. I understand what you mean though, painting an army was rather daunting for me until I recruited my brother to the cause.

I like the gold on the plastic prince, does a good job of looking gold without looking too shiny or clean.
Also, I second the request for a pic of the sword.

Well I've had a busy day today (art portfolio work) so I've had no time for new pictures. All I can offer are ones taken on Monday of a WiP Chaos Ogyrn.

Thank you for the comment CodGod. That was the effect I was going for so I'm glad that appears that I pulled it off. :p
I will try to get a picture tomorrow if I don't have too much course work.

Thanks CG. I could still add some brighter green to it, maybe Goblin or Scorpion Green would be better.
I made some more progress on the second daemon prince today. I'll post pics on Thursday after my History exam.

This is exactly what is cool about project logs: seeing someone take an idea and/or something they've been working on and being able to see how it progresses over time. Keep it up!
A few things I noticed: Do you prime your models? In your WIP pics of the Demon Princes, it looked like maybe not. I find that helps a ton in color quality. Also, maybe give highlighting a try. Even just one extra shade gives models a real pop!
Cheers,
Rawson

Thanks for the comment Rawson. Yes, both me and Gathering Storm prime our models before painting. GS was painting it piece by piece (both DP's were held together by blu-tack in those WiP shots) in order to paint all of the details.
Gathering Storm uses highlights but I don't have a steady enough hand yet in order to pull it off effectively.
