As for myself, I'm considering it. I've never played a game of 40k with strangers, though, and am afraid I might kind of make a fool of myself with my incorrect rules interpretations. If you don't play a lot, is there still a lot of stuff to do?

Is it possible to create a Dakka Delegation?

I'd be more inclined to go if it was on my half of the country *sigh*

Not worth going to chicago for it. Plus who would want to go to Chicago voluntarily anyway.

I am thinking of heading up to Games Day Chicago, but still unsure. I went to Games Day last year in Baltimore, and it was pretty cool. I was kinda hoping for more "sneek peeks" of up and coming models and whatnot, but there wasnt anything. They had some kinda cool events planned, I played in the 40K event, but to be honest, it was kinda lame. Not a whole lot of thought put into the game, so basicaly they gave me control of 10 orks, and on the other end of the table were 2 units of chaos marines and a predaor (I think it was a predator). Basicaly my poor boys got rocked the 2nd turn and then I just kinda stood there for half an hour lol.

All in all it was good, but aftere the whole thing was over I had kinda wished that I had instead gone to a convention that had more variety than just Games Workshop stuff. I was able to pick up a copy of the OOP space hulk, so that was worth it

If you do go, my suggestion to you would be to stay til the end. In Baltimore, I had left a little bit early because I had looked at everything there was to look at, bought everything I wanted, and was getting kinda bored. After I left I heard that the GW staff just started piling free stuff onto people in the crowd. I dunno if all the games days are like that, but its worth sticking around for I would think.

You're safe - it's in July, you'll be more worried about air conditioning than snow.

I'm considering it. Haven't ever been to a Games Day before, and it at least sounds interesting. Chicago isn't too far away either. The main problem is that GenCon comes right on its heels, and I'll need all sorts of money for that, haha.

Suck it up and go! I'm driving a 24' truck to Games Day, and this year I have to drive Philly to Chicago instead of the quick trip down to Baltimore. Probably leaving early Thursday and hoping to get there in time for set up Friday morning and much beer on Friday night! You two can ride on the bumpers.

I've never been to a Games Day before, but I'm planning on going.

Rosemont isn't too far away from me (It's not actually in Chicago, it's in a suburb. And, a Western suburb at that.)

Just so I know, should I bring my army if I'm not planning on entering it into any contests or anything? I saw that they have gaming tables, but I'm not sure if the armies are provided or player-owned.

Wait, someone from Jersey is dis-ing Chicago???

j/k

anyway, even if you dont register for any games you should go. When I went they had a number of games that you did not need minis for, I was interested in playing Eldar so I played 2 games with them and had a blast. It really is a blast to see that many people all there for the same reason. Meeting the celebs, seeing the new minis, watching the big games, its all afun. usually Forgeworld even has stuff there to buy.

And yes, bring your minis, you never know when someone will want to throw down a quick game on the open tables.

Living in Chicago, I will be going.

And honestly, guys, if you haven't been to Chicago, don't be afraid from the guys on the streets.

My parents have never understood that nobody is going to try to mug you in broad daylight on a busy street.

Someone's never been to Washington Park.

(Neither have I. No way could you pay me enough to set foot in that neighborhood.)

Mmm, one of my fondest memories of Chicago was the Gino's East Pizza, soo good. That alone would be worth the trip.

Someone's never been to Washington Park.

never even heard of it

I plan on going! I went to Games Day Atlanta, 2004, and that was pretty fun. Now I live very close to Chicago, and have many friends there, so it will be a nice little trip up. During the Games Day events, my wife will drop me off with a brown paper bag lunch, and go hit the city with her friends, and pick me up after the dorkiness is over.

Maybe I'll wear the shirt that is my user avatar (that zombie pic you see next to this post is a T-shirt) so people will "recognize" me. You can come up and say hi! I'm a very tall, relatively thin, dark crew-cut haired scowly guy. I'll be at all of the conversions events for sure.

1.) I had considered going with my wife, but she has a bad knee (needs a replacement) and so I was wondering - generally speaking, are there places to sit at these things, or are they 8 hours on your feet?

2.) What are the possibilities of getting Dakka Dakka t-shirts if we get a delegation going?

i recommend having your wife drop you off at the convention center and go do whatever she likes for the duration (where she can sit at her leisure). that's what my wife's doing!

as to #2, i think that's a great idea! should someone run that by Yakface? (he's the grand poo-bah of Dakka, isn't he?)

and @ Porkuslime: you should come! i want to meet the man, the myth, the legend! Porkus!
