Cleaning out my bitzbox (which is filled with junk that is borderlining on toxic substances) I discovered a leman russ, disassembled but with almost all of the pieces there, a complete 2nd ed Rhino, and literally half (it's like someone took this to a buzzsaw) of a 2nd ed plastic Predator. While I am going to clean up the 2nd ed rhino and put it back into service of my PMs, I have no idea what I should do with the other two. The Pred is literally in half, someone cut the hull in half and apparently didnt give it to me (I got the entire lot off eBay for only 20 bucks, so it's understandable that almost none of the items are complete) and it's missing it's right side tracks. It's missing the Turret, but not the turret cannon. The Leman Russ, likewise, is almost complete...except for it's entire right track and it's cannon.

Since I have 10 Leman Russes already (far more than I'll ever need) I was considering converting the Leman Russ into a Looted Wagon or a Trukk for my fledging Ork force. However I have no idea what to do about the missing side of the tracks. I have more tank bitz but they all look awkward (even for orks) as replacements for the side. The pred is too old and creates a sort of style clash if I used it's parts. Any suggestions?

As for the Pred, I could fix it up with some pus and exposed bone to make it nurgle-like and field it with my Plague Marines. Alternatively I could just go with the broken nature of it, glue it to a masonite base and use it as terrain (which would be pretty fun to model). I am kinda conflicted.

I find that busted tanks make great terrain pieces. I took an old land raider and melted huge sections of it with a blow torch and put little bodies inside and it makes a great terrain piece.

Terrain or Objective markers?

There's some great terrain in my FLGS that's made from totalled Landraiders, Tau vehicles, Rhinos, and Russes.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

The Pred is too far gone and too many pieces missing for any sort of repair job, so I guess it's going to end up as a terrain piece. However the Russ still has largely everything intact, seems a shame to scrap it just becuase of a set of missing treads =(.

I remember using a Leman Russ that suffered an "act of Dog" when I was younger, turned out to be a great piece of terrain after sulking for days (was a lot younger then!)

For the missing threads, have you considered building armor that would cover where the treads are supposed to be? Like, an orky version of armor plates protecting those treads. That way, you won't need to replace them and you'll be adding to the looted feel.

If you took this approach to both sides, you may be able to get enough treads from the single side to cover all exposed areas on both sets of treads.

Good luck with it!

The left side is completely glued together save for the outer plating. I might do as you said though, since the outer plating for the other side could be used to fill out the right side, and I just need to find some sort of makeshift wheels to balance it out.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Managed to disassemble most of the russ through some fingernail-breaking prying. Going to strip the model and prep it for conversion. Like Heffling said, there's roughly just enough pieces to give wheels and tracks to both sides. Thansk for the idea!

Its going to be for Orks so why not use some wheels, grot or 2 and maybe a log of wood?

If you're definitely gonna go orky, wheels or legs to replace the treads could be fun. Or could just be super weird. Hard to tell really.
