Hey all,

My parents picked up one of these (cheapish) at a wargames show this weekend gone but I don't know what colour to paint it. It all looks top quality and the fit is great so I think it will be an easy enough build, but I'm stumped as to what colour/chapter to paint it. I don't want Ultramarines, and blood Angels seem a bit too much red. Black Templars are great but I think on such a large figure it would just look like a slab of black and lose detail or be unattractive. I'm tempted by Imperial Fists but yellow is a daunting colour. Any suggestions/inspiration?

Go homebrew! I'd go with grey/metal and green, personally.

Speaking of which I quite like the similarly coloured Mentor Legion... I loved them when I was young.

That "Adeptus Astartes" poster would be handy about now, that has loads across it. Small pic here...

That WiP is very ambitious I will probably build mine straight from the box. Don't want to balls it up even if it was £28 rather than £100.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I would go for Imperial Fists. Mostly because I love yellow and think a large yellow marine would look excellent.

Tbh I've always loved the sternguard look with white/blue halfs. White painted with Fenris grey to the deepest recesses -> astronomican grey -(between this is the "Real colour" to my mind)> space wolves grey -> and Skull white as extreme highlight gives a very clean look, but with some weathering it looks very realistic, some brown here and there. And blue just the regular way, thou I'd like to see one with encanted blue on the other half, looks more light evening sky and would be a little different ^^ I'm working on one myself, converted from the space marine command squad. I only paint them for painting so no idea of any chapters or that stuff, normally I just do warhammer fantasy battle ones but want to try NMM on space marines. Anyway, enjoy the model, it loks Very nice! Waiting to see it painted

Well, you could give it a bronze effect and use it as a display piece and even use it as terrain with minor conversions to the base. Just spray black, drybrush a little bit of goblin green in areas, and drybrush some brazen brass or brassy brass.

Thorian Enclave Inquisitorial Guard - 6000points
Grey Knights - 4000pts
Divine Crusaders - 5000pts
Order of the Argent Shroud - 3500pts
Kabal of the Black Heart - 3000pts
Wife's Deathskulls - 4000pts

Try Dark Angels, or paint it bronze/Mith-Gold effect and use it as an impromtu-trophy.

Deathwatch? Legion of the Damned? Grey Knights?

I think all those require a fair bit of conversion work to do them justice... though the Deathwatch did cross my mind. But again... too much black.

Lamenters would be tight. Working on a scale that large would make the checkers a bit easier to paint.

Tiny update, I've got as far as pinning the model together... currently I'm tempted by Mentor Legion or a yellow-coloured chapter like Imperial Fists or Lamenters...

Convert it into a chaos mini and paint it black legion.

Angels of Redemption would definitely be a challenge. One half that dark, rich green that's so hallmark of the Dark Angels the other that white-bone.
Iron Lords would also be a good one(pg 115 of the current Space Marine codex), primarily black body with bright red legs.

Eagle Warriors with their halved blue/white could be nice, as could Sons of Orar.

And of course, if you still want to do yellow-coloured...you could always do the Howling Griffons. Quartered red/yellow could look gorgeous on that piece.
