You’d think I’d have clocked that! Seems it’s the Piscean Spektor now. Which we have in the upgrade boxed set.

If you look, the suit's right leg is on the ground while the left leg is stretched out behind since it's running, with the left lower arm providing a bit of locomotion.

I think it will look waaaaaaaaay better in 360.

Adding to that; the Piscean Spektor took over the role of the Delaque Brute.

The posing really doesn't do it any favours but how that is the result after so long in design is kind of baffling. It's just a bit.... boring. Especially compared to either of the pieces of artwork produced to show it.

Yeah, cool model, but reminds me why im less and less into newcromunda.

Really seems like the game is no longer about regular gangers fighting each other

Haven't you seen Mexico?

Cartels here have military level equipement. And necromunda gangs are more like small country sized cartels.

Of course personal preferences are personal preferences but I think newcromunda works much better with 40k than oldmunda.

And, like, is vaan saar, they are the scifi gang. Goliaths, Escher, Orlocks, they look very "regular gangers" to me, with industrial type gear.

I mean... yes. But the equivalent to that would be IG equipment, not Infinity power armor. And they already had that in Oldcromunda.

Not really grabbing me (yes, I went there)

To me the bigest problem with this one is that it kind of literally looks like something out of a different setting. It certainly doesn't look like Imperium tech at all.

The joy of Necromunda is that as a campaign based game, it’s always been half official rules, half home brew.

Don’t want to allow high tech weapons such as Grav Guns and Arachni-Rigs? Go for it.

Oh, I do. But that means that basically the whole of the new books don't have any real utility, because they're chock full of it.

There's worse fates than not needing to buy any books, mind.

Vigo. Spain.

I understand the obsesion with having all the books and tools. I feel really crappy with not having them.

But I see necromunda like a RPG. You have a ton of options and books and settings, but you are not expected to use them all if you don't want.

If I don't want sci fi alien robots fighting my barbarians in my pathfinder campaing, why I'm gonna use the Numeria supplement?

Spoiler:

But I believe is an exaggeration, taking van saar, the more scifi and less 40k of all the necromunda gangs and trying to paint the whole game like them. Orlocks, Eschers, Goliaths, Corpse Grind Cults, the medieval looking ones, redemptionists, even the dark city bald ones they have a much more 80-punk or low tech 40k feel to them. Van Saar are just the exception, not the rule.

Weird gak. Like, seriously. I'm not seeing Necromunda in that model.

 Galas wrote:

Yeah, but Van Saar used to be the Fremen gang, you know? Gritty Eighties sci-fi. Not polished new millennium sci-fi.

There's a tangible difference and GW's designers don't do a very good job of understanding it when reinterpreting classics, in my opinion.

Is the assumption that this is resin?

If it were plastic (ie, I wouldn't have to go through FW to get it), I'd likely snap this up for something fun to paint.

On the books, I have a complete set, and will be using them for the campaigns I’m soon to start running.

However, as GM, I see it is my responsibility to let my players have access to my copies, rather than needing them to buy their own.

The thing is that when Van Saar were created the eighties were cool and the inmediate past. The eighties are 40 years behind know. It would been like making 1960 martian sci fi looking miniatures for necromunda back in the 90's.

You say Gritty Eighties sci-fi. I see bad old Bond movie villain henchmen.

I'm not gonna convince anyone that likes the looks of the old Van Saar than the new ones are better, of course, it comes down to personal tastes. But the only two factions that have been redesigned in a more divergent way than their own self are Van Saar and the bald ones, the rest are very respectfull of the original incarnation.

If its a plastic kit I might have one for Stargrave, but Necromunda seems to be mostly Forgeworld these days.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

On the design updates? I agree Van Saar and Delaque have diverged the most - and Delaque by quite some degree.

To stymie the old arguments cropping up again? One can really, really like the new Delaque models, and still wish they weren’t such a radical departure from the originals, and instead seek out Proxy models.

Just as House of Shadows allows Delaque to be pretty psyker heavy doesn’t demand all Delaque Gangs be played so.

Exactly. I think the new Delaques are very nice models... to be used as anything other than Delaques. They're not Delaques. They're something utterly different.

t's not necessarily that the model is too high tech (it is, but that's not my main point). Its that the game seems to be too centered around these specialist units. Old necro was all about making your juves grow to gangers, and improve your gangers and specialist.

Now, it seems like these special bespoken units are the one dominating the game. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it diverge sensibly from the old necromunda feeling imo

I want Pit Slaves (or Ratskins), but I wonder if we'll get a 'generic' Guilder Gang, or an Outlanders/Mutants/Scavvies type one.

Huh, that's a really, really nice model, but it doesn't feel like it belongs in the underhive. My first impression was that the Spyrers are finally here.

Have there been background developments? Did the Van Saar discover a Dark Age tech repository?

I guess maybe if you paint it grungy and worn down it won't look so out of place.

Yeah, I kind of know, seeing as I've been working on RPGs for twenty years now.

But, as a counterpoint: what the designers decide to put in a book inform the setting moving forward, the actual current setting and people's expectations about it. It doesn't matter that I, personally, don't like it and decide not to use it: Van Saar players are going to expect being able to field it, and it will keep appearing in subsqeuent books, because now it's a part of the setting.

You're not expected to use it... kinda, sorta, it really dependes on how, where and with whom you play. Following your Pathfinder example, if you wanna play in a Pathfinder Society game/event, you'll have to make do if there are sci fi alien robots in the game.

But I believe is an exaggeration, taking van saar, the more scifi and less 40k of all the necromunda gangs and trying to paint the whole game like them. Debatable, TBH. The amount of high-tech/special/wierd gak per capita in the new gangs is significantly higher than it was. They're, as a regular fact, much better equipped than the melon-fething army, be it PDFs or the IG, and up there with astartes, if not for the power armors (less botler, much, much more plasma/melta/weird gak than regular marines).

...and then there's the Cawdor xD

Gangs are closer to Private Military Contractors.

They’re funded and supported by their Clan House, charged with expanding that House’s influence, seeking out new resources to be plundered, whilst being a spanner in the works of the other Clan Houses.

In a certain frame of mine, they’re also Special Ops, with the Clan House ultimately maintaining some level of plausible deniability.

As for their hardware? The Arachni-Rig is an adaptation of industrial equipment. As for Lascannons and the like? Most Clan Houses have some kind of weapon foundry intended to help collectively meet Necromunda’s Administratum tithes. How many Multi-Meltas, Plasma Weapons, Flamers etc are produced and tested each cycle? How many of those which failed testing just sort of….disappear?

I'd be most excited for Ash Wastes (and GW has been making references to existing models' roles outside the hives), but I'd happily take Scavvies, any Guild, or proper Redemption. Ratskins, maybe not. They'd have to be politically corrected, obviously, and be made into something more interesting looking than a Warcry gang with guns.

Also note that the gangs are very fragmented and segregated in nature. You've Escher in the Underhive who are little more than a band of women with perhaps a few guns and mostly blades and bits of pipe that they found; all the way up to those in the middle regions of the Hive who live a far removed life and are far more well equipped and better educated. Indeed they might not even have to fight at all for their position in the gang.

Meanwhile back in the Underhive, those gangs " on the edge" likely have to have most come ot fight when its required.
