so i'm trying to get my gf to try out warhammer. Issue is she only only likes Daemons, Slaanesh in particular. Now my worry is i get her to try with proxies and she gets whooped from lack of anti tank. She likes nurgle too and some of the other models. anybody got any suggestions?

Same thing I tell everyone that wants to get into the hobby, pick out models that you like. Paint them how you want. Model them however. 90% of the time, models that you like will perform better than modles you have 'because I need anti-tank/anti-infantry/etc..'. Its sort of the Ork 'red ones go fasta' idea.

I would say either a mono God army or an undivided army would be best. One way you get an army that is heavily themed and looks really unified and nice. The other has a few different styles and gives a larger range of things to paint, so more variety. Then again, I'm sure a nurgle/slaanesh army would be fine. The most important thing is that it would be her army, she should love what is in it.

I assume that she is only going to be playing friendly matches so ultra competitiveness is not really required. She should just get what she likes, with maybe a bit of a nod towards effectiveness. I'm sure that is easy enough to do though.

Try explaining to your girlfriend who has beautifully painted swooping hawks how terrible they are on the table.

Seriously, let her build an army around models she likes, help her build a cohesive list out of that as best as possible, and play against her with a similarily fluffy and fun list.

i guess then, cause i know my jetbikes against her will go to town with slaanesh units. I just want her to play a few matches with some proxy and enjoy. if i ever get her to play in a store i know it won't be te same as going against me. but she does like a good range of the models at least. Especially the forgeworld keeper of secrets

I got into warhammer with that idea about howling banshees and wraithlords, yet can't find a list that will do decent with these guys in a competitive enviroment

you should definately bet sexual favours on the out come of each game.

I play a mono god slaanesh army, and I enjoy playing it.

The plastic ones you can get them rather cheaply on Ebay.

But I'm a Juan Diaz fan so I have all of the previous versions of that army.

Also, how does one apply to be a member of the Ultramodrines? Are harsh trials involved, ones that would test my faith as a wargamer and resolve as a geek?

Mono god armies are fun to paint and look great! Some Soulgrinders would help here in the anti tank department.

I suggest buying her a Daemons army and you a GK army. That way you can stomp her face in to the ground!

But seriously, remember that there is a point in all of our gaming lives where the game is new, fun, and every little thing is exciting. Let her enjoy that time with any army and (legal) unit she wants. I'm sure she'll understand that as a newer player she won't bust out of the gate sweeping the Throne of Skulls.

I agree with all of the above. Let her pick, paint and play what she likes. I have created an absolute monster with my GF and her Blood Angles.

Just make it fun, start small and make it fun. HQ + 2 troop choices. So lets say Keeper of Secrets and 2 boxes of daemonettes, maybe grab 2 fiends too just for the heck of it, mix it up a bit. And just play small games with her. Don't overwhelm her by buying 4 boxes of daemonettes, some seekers, Masque and also help her to shave those mould lines. I find mould lines are like HDTV to women, they don't see the difference.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

At the end of the day she'll only enjoy the hobby by playing the units she likes, if you love an army you can overlook it's flaws anyway.

Just be grateful your significant other didn't pick Space Wolves as her army, I wince every time she rolls for counter-attack.

Really? mabye things have changed in newer editions of the rules but my SH are one of the few things I find effective against my friend's Guardsman. They jump around the battlefield with ease, dropping frags on his infantry and kraks on his tanks with impunity. I can run rings round him.

Armies:

"Hazmarines" chapter - several 1,000 points
The craftworld "Yal Tir" - 2,000 pts & growing
- Nurgle cultists... coming soon...

well she gave me a list of what she likes, Demonettes being the top,
basically she she likes, changling, pink horros, scorcher( or screecher), prince if built how she likes, greater demon of slaanesh and greater of nurgle, seekers, the masque, and plague bearers (and the keeper of secerts from forgeworld.......)

Let her build the list however she likes, but definitely nudge her to get things she will need (like you said, some AT).

Also, initially, go easy on her. I'm not saying let her win, just don't bring ultra-competitive lists, and don't go really cut throat. That way, her first games won't be her getting table. While it won't be her winning, a close lose is certainly much better than a total massacre.

KoS, princes and fiends can all perform anti-tank roles if needed.
Grinders can get the job done well too, but tend to attract alot more heavy fire.

A full slaanesh army is actually pretty good.
There is a slaanesh player from london on here who uses all of the old old models and does pretty well, ill try and dig his name out for you.

The nice thing about slaanesh is all their attacks are rending due to the claws. So a group of 15 charging do 60 WS4 attacks now the Strength is OK at 3 but with rending they auto wound on 6s.

And if you have 3 fiends, they will have a chance to take down things like Rhinos, as they have 5 (15 if all 3 are attacking) attacks +1 on charge at Strength 5, armor penetration roll of a D6 so 10-11 is possible and if you roll a 6 you get an extra D3 in armor pen thanks to their rending claws so a chance of a penetrating hit.

And they all have the fleet rule
