Hi all.
So I was just browsing ebay like I do from time to time and came across this. I LOL'D - hard:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/40k-EVERSOR-ASSASSIN-DIORAMA-known-White-Dwarf-/110665056450?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19c426c0c2

Honestly out of all the stuff on Ebay that's just plain wrong this has to be up there. Its gotta be...
Have you ever seen anything quite like this? Who does this guy think he can fool? If anyone buys this I'll eat some vital internal organ, perhaps even my own

What are you talking about? It looks legit!

Well...to be fair, it seems like a pretty good diorama, if you left out the picture above it. I'd give the guy 50$-60$ for the diorama alone, if I wanted/needed it. I don't.

The price is ridiculous.

It's a nice looking diorama, however. But when you look at hard detail, like the hazard striping on that hatch... well, $800 it is not.

I'd prefer it if folks here didn't flame the work involved in the diorama, as it's hardly terrible stuff, it's just not $800 bloody dollars worth in my opinion, ymmv.

Alright, I'll bite - what's the joke (Aside from an $800 price-tag)?

It's onlyu a joke if someone buys it, I reckon. I mean, if he wants to try and sell it atthat price then he's the one paying the listing fees, so why not?

I have recently been diagnosed with swelling in the brain, so please excuse spelling mistakes and faulty sentences. I am losing my ability to type and talk effectively, but dammit, that is not going to stop me from trying.

It looks like heavily veiled fraud with the "English isn't my first language" tossed in there. "100% copy" is double-speak: it could mean 1) this is the original diorama used in WD magazine or 2) it's a replica of the original diorama used in the WD. With all the other stuff of "own a piece of history", the description implies without explicitly saying that this is the original diorama used in the magazine photo.

Upon investigation, it's obvious this is a replica, not the original used in the magazine photo due to the numerous errors in modeling on the copy he's trying to sell.

As usual, buyer beware. My .02

The guy is selling "the only known 100% copy" of someone else's diorama.

Look at picture 3 and play "seek and find" for all the ways it's NOT a 100% copy...or even the same level of quality.

Protips: the vent to the right of the assassin, the hazard stripes on the floor panel. Tons more to find.

Also, he uses big text and letters for everything except the part that admits it's only a copy of the original...yet it's still "the unique once in a lifetime chance" to own a piece of GW history.

I love the fact he put a pic behind it, just you know, just in case you didn't have it to hand, you can clearly see this is not the same Diorama.

Well the money's the main joke but...

To me the joke is it's quite clearly not, in anyway, remotely close to the workmanship of the original and the seller's obviously trying to sell it based on the fact it's the 'only authentic copy'. It's quite clearly not an 'authentic' copy & he's trying to get $800 for it based on an absurdist claim. Does this make sense I don't know maybe it's my British humour, in other words "He's 'aving a Giraffe".

I was looking at it for a moment, said kind of neat, but before I started to really examine the photo and diorama closely, something drew my attention to the gauges to the left of the assassin's head as something wasn't quite right there, then I saw something else, and from there it became a game of find the errors.

I would need it explained to me why it was worth $800. For the right piece it could be worth it. But my basement is full of stuff "from history" that are definitely not worth $800.

I think the seller needs to understand why it is illegal to sell such an item too! The model is copyrighted and he is stupidy copying the thing and proving he has copied it!

I don't understand how he thinks this is games workshop history though. Any ideas?

Its a copy of a pretty cool McVey diorama way back when they actually did cool things like this.

I don't think the guy is doing anything illegal, its more of a homage to the original piece but not worth $800 (although that is subjective) The choice of language is misleading though.

The description says that, if the buyer likes, he'll also include a copy of Codex Assassins

And the same seller also lists (the) 5 Realms of Chaos books for $700,- (and he currently has 1 bid). I'm not familiar with those books, but are they worth $700,-

EDIT: I just Googled, and I think those books sell for less than $10,- a piece. LMAO!

That bid he has must be a fake account or a friend's account.

I did think, if it were an original, hmm perhaps someone might justify that for a piece of GW's history. I mean, some of the original art pieces by Adrian Smith and the like can go for well over $1000.

But no, just a copy? Seriously, what is the point.. and even the most clueless and rich of parents is going to do a little research for $800!

The diorama's a joke but, actually, the original Realm of Chaos books are worth a small fortune. The Slave to Darkness book is the more common, but the Lost and the Damned is probably worth £100-200 to collectors.

And I gave mine away! <sob>

Hehe, this seems like a good place to put other ebay related stories.

I wonder if this counts as a, 'what happens after a relationship splits up' and you forget some models at the ex's place.'

I can't see how the error was made otherwise.

Its the "...only known 100% copy of the EVERSOR ASSASSIN DIORAMA."

In other words it’s the only known knockoff of a supposedly famous piece in existence therefore it has value above and beyond the paint and plastic its made of.

@Morathi's Darkest Sin - If you scroll down, you'll see the right photo.

It's easily done - you upload one photo for another item, then hit "Sell Similar" and forget to change the photo. I've done it a couple of times, much to my embarrassment.

Somewhere in south-central England.

If you look closely there clearly are a number of significant differences between the WD picture and the diorama for sale.

It obviously isn't the original diorama.

I agree that calling it the only 100% copy is an attempt to gull people into believing that it is the original.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

What makes me laugh, is when people put up an army, and then write about stuff they are throwing in 'for free'. It isn't really free if people know about, and then bid on it because of it, you could say you are selling this space marine, with an entire chaos army thrown in free.
