So for the first time, I feel bad about winning. I think I just ran a cheese list, although unintentionally.

Tournament: Single Elimination 1000 pt. HQ only

List:
Fateweaver
Bloodthirster
2 Heralds Tzeentch w/ Chariots, Boon, Master Sorcery, Bolt
Skulltaker on Juggernaut

First round faced a friend playing Space Wolves...had 2 Rune Priests (One with JAWS). He also had some various others-6 models on table and each one decked out in wargear. Worried about JAWS taking out Fateweaver, so I rolled my chosen army-(Fateweaver and 2 Heralds) and deepstruck 2 of them on doorstep and a herald ten inches back. Attempted to boon Jaws Rune Priest, and friend rolls a 6 on the toughness check! Fire the bolt, insta-kill a HQ, then move on to Fateweaver. He tries boon...and another 6! Then he chaos breaths and bolts for wounds and another instant death. 2nd Herald fires bolt and daemonic gaze, another instant death! Friend has one model, which on his turn he fires a shot but Fateweaver saves. Then he assaults, and Fateweaver rerolls and makes the save. Next round, try a boon on the last guy and the third 6 in a row! Top of turn two, and not a scratch. But feeling really bad for opponent...usually rolling three 6's in a row would be a good thing.

Second round face Abaddon and a couple chaos sorcerors and lords. Skulltaker instant deaths a sorceror, bolts instant death a couple, and the bloodthirster beats on Abaddon, who manages to kill the skulltaker before he dies. The Heralds and Fateweaver shoot up the remaining three CSM's, and the game is ended on a successful boon again turn 3.

Final round faced Blood Angels: Mephiston, The Sanguinar, Dante and Astorath.
This began as an epic battle. Seeing what Mephiston could do, he was my top target priority, with the Sanguinar being a close second. My friend Deployed in a corner, and I deepstruck a good 30 inches away...His Hq's were CC nightmares, but didn't possess much of a ranged threat. One Herald bolted Dante, the only close enough model, and insta-killed him. Bloodthirster and skulltaker come in next turn, and a couple more bolts and daemonic gazes manage to put a wound or two on Mephiston. Mephiston activates Wings of Sanguis, flies, and then fleets into assaulting a herald (I forgot he had fleet!) Herald takes two wounds after saving 2 others via reroll. Skulltaker and Bloodthirster assault in, giving him two more wounds...and Mephiston saves the two instant death Skulltaker Rends, saving his skull from the skullthrone! Then my turn, and Fateweaver and the other Herald swoop in close. All three try to boon Mephiston, but he saves all three. During the next assault, Mephiston kills the Skulltaker as then gets finished by the Bloodthirster. The opponent assaults in, and takes out the Bloodthirster. Oh no! Fateweaver and 2 heralds...not exactly CC stars, against BloodAngels The Sanguinar and Astorath. Next thing I know, my opponents locked in combat with me, and rerolling hits and wounds. Then I'm rerolling my successful invuls. Thought I was a goner. Fateweaver manages to save all the wounds directed on him, after what seemed a million dice rolls.

Next turn, two boon attempts and two failed saves...and the win.

So is this cheese...or do I chalk it up to having the favor of the chaos gods? Boon took the 1st match before it could even develop into a good game, and saved what I felt was certain defeat in the finals. I actually kinda feel bad about winning...What do you guys think?

First of all, Mephiston couldn't have saved Skulltaker's rending wounds....he doesn't have an invuln save!!!

Secondly, your list may be strong, but it was mainly luck that won you the game. What would be cheesy is a chaos list with all DP's - 3 winged Lash DP's and 3 winged nurgle or tzeentch DP's would really be nasty.

No i don't think it was that cheesy. You did get really lucky. The other thing is that you only played MEQ, and almost all of them didn't have eternal warrior. So instant death was pretty easy to get.

If I read it right it says "HQ only"

and the list is pretty good IMHO with so many boons and str 8 hits + skulltaker (character bane) and fateweaver to keep them alive
BUT you got really lucky with boons ( I LOL'd IRL when I read that)

Daemon Princes ARE HQs for CSM(Daemons don't get Lash, they have Pavane, that should have clued you in to which Chaos jy2 was referring to).

I was there, he didn't make the two save, it was Astorath that made the two save, Mephiston was killed by the Bloodthirster.

So the only rules are HQ's only?
Seems amusing.

I might have been more inclined to run a list with Fateweaver and then as many heralds as possible joined into a Booning super unit.

Not many HQ have any ranged attacks anyway and you might be able to fit 15+ Boons in a single list!

That's an interesting approach, but as I said, I wasn't intending to run a cheese list or a boon spam.

God bless both of you, but when you start playing in HQ-only tournaments, you have too much spare time on your hands!

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Observations on complex unit wound allocation: If you're feeling screwed, your opponent is probably doing it right.

I said 3 lash DP's and 3 nurgle or tzeentch DP's, or a total of 6 chaos space marine DP's.
