Just an idea I had. Running should be more efficient, roll 2D6 and take the highest, that way you don't waste a shooting turn for a 1'' run...
whatcha'll think?

Not really, that's the point of it, whereas on one hand you're risking a 1" movement and losing shooting, on the other, you're gaining a 6" boost to your threat range, which can easily change the course of a game.

That's true, but maybe in smaller games it would be better to use 2D6, as then you get to combat a lot quicker.

For eldar, maybe, to give them back the edge that they had before everyone could run.
For other races. No.

Eldar could use it, perhaps Tyranids also (they have a hard enough job getting to combat against some armies as it is). Other races just don't have the agility for it.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Running is good as is. Why make it better?
I could see some units getting a special rule to roll 2d6 pick highest.

Hormagaunts already get it (even better version to boot), but at the expense of their Beast rule from before, so I'm kinda torn.

I'm gonna have to agree with everyone, I'd vote no. The game is already Close Combat heavy and pushing units into CC faster just weighs the scale even more in that direction.

I disagree, yeah 1" runs suck, but thats the point. its either realy awesome or it sucks. coming from a person who plays an army that relys on shoot and run tactics, i have to pray for bad dice rolls on runs, otherwise i get smashed. all it takes is one lucky roll to ruin us. giving you better odds does not sound good to me.

I was about to say the same about the Waaaaghing Orks. Two concerns there though, of sorts: one, it would make Ghazzy's Waaagh less impressive; and, two, you would forced to commit when you declare the Waaaagh at the beginning of the shooting phase, as opposed to now, at any point up until the shooting phase ends.

I'd also say no, 2D6 running should be a bonus rule to certain troops - can you imagine the menacing necrons (who are scary through their slow advance) suddenly running like maniacs toward the enemy? Just doesn't work

IIRC, isn't there a rule for some kind of race/creature that gives it this ability? IDK, but it sounds very familiar.

There was a piece of wargear in the Kroot Mercenaries list, called the surefoot charm. It was 10 points per unit, and let you roll 2D6 and take the highest. It was an auto-include for all my units with fleet. I'm guilty of forgetting that running does not work like that for everyone, and am always corrected and have to reroll just the one die. It is a very noticable difference in gameplay.

Count myself and probably every other Tau player in the "against" collum. If this game gets any more slanted towards CC, I'm going to have to shelf the greater good.
