I'd like to posit that in addition to the petition, or even if you don't sign the petition, you also send a letter to GW if you don't happen to like the fluff (or the game play, or both!) of the new codex.

Far be it for me to be the pin to your balloon..but honestly, you could march back and forth in front of GW headquarters carrying a huge sign that reads " Grey Knights Unfair!!",while dragging a mile long petition signed by every one who post on these forums behind you...and GW will not care.

Yeah. Basically. Unless you get that mile-long line of people swear to never buy GW products again until they change their methods and "right" themselves.

Then GW will lament a few losses, remember that they're an international multi-million dollar company, and not care.

Sorry. I wish the little man could influence big business. Short of a lawsuit, it's not gonna happen.

Couldn't we get some kids to dress in blue armor then get a larger group of kids and tell them they can be awesome too but not as awesome as the blue armored guys. Thus they all argue and fight and when the media catches wind, we can say 'They just wanted to be Ultramarines like everyone else...'

just start throwing die at their headquarters, on a 6 it may rend....

that being said, its silly and would probably have the security guard upon you. So lets make it simpler

1. fly to the UK
2. look up Matt Ward's adress
3. throw die at him and his house, hard
4.
5. PROFIT!

My feeling on this matter is that we, the people who obviously care more about the product than the company that made it, should treat the Ward <gacking noise> fluff the same way that star trek fans treated that save the whales mess Shatner made. It never happened, it isn't accepted cannon, and then have our own responsible people re-write the fluff so that it makes sense and passes a continuity check.

Unfortunately many of us suffer from Internet syndrome in that we think we are the masses. Even looking at 4 websites and counting each poster who dislikes the new codex = under 30 people....

You are 1 of maybe 15 people who really dislikes the codex and the others are just forum trolls who like to complain. Even if you were a hundred strong you are basically a fart in the wind to GW or any big company.

You're implying that said fans should get off forums and stop the complaining. I don't see that happening any time soon

I thought about how I would have written some of that fluff differently, we may all have.

Brother Nikolaus surveyed the scene before him. Stained glass fragments adorned the floor of the convent chapel. Inside as without, the dead piled over one another. Some shot, some cleaved, most burned and melted to some degree. Yet always was there a ring of corpses around where a pair of Battle Sisters had fallen against the fatal tide of madness.
Horror and pride mingled in his two hearts as he knew how the sisters spent the Emperor’s currency, and spent it well. And he and his brothers would honor them, with vengeance.

Just my attempt, for what its worth.

Given that they caught onto the Dark Angels Upgrade pack deal almost immediately after a slew of threads on here pointing out how good of a deal they were, I'm pretty sure they already know how peeved everyone is at Ward. As much as it pains me to say this, unless you can get every last man, woman and child to stop buying their products, they really just dont care.

The GK book isn't bad. Yes some fluff is WAY out there and REALLLLLYYYYYY bad. But honestly what book has Matt Ward written that doesn't have something wrong in it. Remember Gks wont beat down Leaf Blowers or Long fang spam unless they do that stupid henchman army.

I don't comment on the rules untill I've played against them. It's hard to know how they'll actualy perform. The fluff on the other hand... at the very least I wish they would have someone else write the fluff. I can read fan fiction whenever I want for free. I'd rather not (and won't) pay money for a fan fiction book. In case anyone's interested, here's the petition: http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/StopMattWard/ I didn't start it but I like it.

start a new thread with the petition?

I played Deamons against the new GK, a Corteaz list but with all PAGK, termis, palladins and those shooty ones, oh and a vidicare. The general isn't.... the best but I forgot about Coteaz's rule regarding close deep striking units. My flamers landed close to him, but out of 2 squads of 8 only one survived. HE THEN IGNORED THAT ONE FLAMER and was in a squad of 5 GK termi's. That one, 35 point flamer then proceeded to kill all 5 GKT and knock the assault cannon off the storm raven in 1 flamer template. I won the killpoint game with 4 more than my enemy. He only had a W1 Grandmaster left in combat with a soul grinder.

That being said, they pack a punch but they are expensive and it will take a while for people to really get a grip on them, both players and opponents.

Are so many of you really so uninspired about the world as to not even try and change it? In the great scheme of things, GW is a company - and companies like to A)make money, and B)avoid scandal.

Right now happens to be an interesting time for GW, because its not really on track to achieve either of those things with its traditionally method of ignoring everything, given that the chapterhouse lawsuit may well go against them, and now they have a rather terrible piece of fluff which was (and i think someone accurately for the "sisters incident" section) dubbed 'misogynist'. (To explain that, one of the few places women show up in GW non sisters codex and they are slaughtered to provide protection to those who in theory, are so uber good fantastic as to not need any help from any one ever, at least if we're to believe the rest of the fluff. But apparently when there are Deamons AND women in the picture, both must be ruthlessly destroyed... but thats just one reading of it. I'm sure different and equally valid interpretations of it being both misogynist, or not can be made. But that fact that there would be a debate at all some what proves the point.)

In any case, I'd rather actually send them an email, and hope that others would to then just sit on my arse and complain about things in a capacity that really has no hope of doing any good at all.

I mean you're on the internet anyway - many of you don't like whats in the GK codex, you might as well spend the minute and half writing an email to GW rather then just another post on Dakka about the subject.

So you sent them a email. Did you get the reply you wanted? Are they recalling the G.K codex and rewriting the background more to your liking? I mean how very dare they sell such a product! If 15 people world wide dont like the book then cleary if they dont stop selling it then they are doomed to fail!

Life can be very inspiring.
A little dunnock in the garden is a beautiful thing, I find.

With due respect, and fair play to you for voicing your concerns directly, GW have already printed the codex and are not going to pulp them unless they don't sell. Which it seems they are.

Hope you are a patient chap as it will be at least 5 years before there will be another GK codex.

Assuming that having read the fluff you have already stumped up the readies. Actually I feel bad for you because bad writing is bad writing whether a novel or backround to toy soldiers. No excuses GW if it is as implausible as it sounds.

Since when has the fluff mattered in 40k since the 3rd ed?

We have BA and necrons being buddies.
We have former worst enemies chaos god-botherers pallying up and having spa parties.
We have DE making deals with Tau (ok, bad example).

I use the army list part of the book, and the unit entry rules.
The fluff can go get used as expensive toilet paper for all I care.

If enough people send negative feedback it may at least make them worried that they're losing touch with their customers, imo. Very unlikely it'd produce any policy changes however.

You could always illegally download it from Pirate Bay if you really hate what they've done that much. At least that way you can read the codex and the rules and not have to pay any money to GW for their mistake of letting Matt Ward write fluff.

I'd say the quality of the codex was 50:50, half alright, half bad, but the bad stuff just defies any explanation as to why such a thing would be put in the codex.

I'd say the ideas behind most characters is fine, but it's Ward's quality of writing that brings it down. That said there are some truly horrible ideas, coupled with some truly horrible writing technique, "He did this cool thing and and and then this, oh! and then this ace thing!".

I think it's hilarious that you seem to think 'Oooh, we do all this cool stuff, but we can't tell you, cos it's secretz' in the last book was better.

Grow the hell up - fluff is purely subjective. i thought it was funny, and in that sense, I enjoyed the fluff. Good Job Mat Ward!

Fluff is purely subjective?

Maybe but that is a poor excuse bad writing if the codex is as people have said.

Not sure that Matt Ward meant the codex to be funny.
Humour is also purely subjective, as exemplified by the recent grffitti on a pod thread. snigger snigger.

No one has said they think the secretz stuff was better. The complaints are regarding the lack of consistency in fluff writing.
People are entitled to want some sense of internal logic.

And because I happen to disagree with you there is no need to employ that sort of tone thank you.
Unless you are deliberately wanting to flame perhaps?

No, I'm simply not interested in the opinions of people who think that the writer should be hung, dawn and quartered or somesuch.

As far as I'm concerned (with 17 years of reading the fluff behind me) some is well written, but not most.

Expecting Proust or Dickens is like expecting Cabernet Sauvignon from your water tap.
