So, Me and a buddy are trying to attend 1 big convention type event every year minimum. Last year we went to Gamesday to see what it was all about, and it was good. Out main gripe after leaving Gamesday however, was that it would have been cool to have seen some non GW stuff. So this year we want to check out a convention that has vendors from all different companies. I am kicking myself now, seeing pics and repots from Adepticon (I was under the impression this whole time that it was only a tournament).

So, to get to my point, now that Adepticon is over, any other conventions or events going on this year that might be cool to check out? I live in KY, so I would like something that is going on in my half of the country at least lol.

Gencon Indy. Lots of events, most major game companies(except GW) show up in an official capacity.

There's tons to do and check out, and many companies bring upcoming product previews.

If you go to one Con and aren't looking for GW centric, Gencon's what you're looking for.

Even Adepticon is still mostly GW, with some PP and a few others thrown in, but the main reasons to go(Championships, Team Tournament) are GW.

Why would you do that?

Maybe they didn't know it was GW only. Now they have learned their lesson.

Adepticon in the north. The Bolscon guys through a nice shindig in Austin as well.

Historicon is in Pennsylvania. I used to go every year until they moved from Lancaster to King of Prussia. Hotels there aren't anywhere near as affordable.

Ahh I guess it does sound like that. Let me rephrase. We went to Games Day knowing full and well that it was a GW official event. Thats the whole reason we went was because we wanted to see all the GW stuff. But after going to Games Day, we were thinking of where we were going to go this year. We decided that we didnt want to go to Gamesday 2011, because we want to go someplace where we will be able to check out other non GW things.

Ashland, KY to Indianapolis, IA is only a 4.5 hour drive. Get yourself a room near the GenCon convention center and drive up. Pre-Registration for Badges is already up. Tickets to events should be up shortly. Prepare to be overwhelmed by 30,000 other gamers.

See you there!

Gencon, Origins, Historicon if you want big and a drive.

We'll be going to Dicehead's SIEGE in Chattanooga next month, which will be much smaller then those, but small cons are good too.

GenCon's pretty awesome. It's about the opposite of Gamesday so far as officially supported 40k stuff goes though.

Sounds like we will be heading to Gencon then! Looked at the website, it seems very overwhelming. SO many events and whatnot. So do you suggest staying the entire 4 days?

Yes. All 4 days are worth it, you can always find something to do.

Columbus, Oh

Origins Game Fair up in Columbus OH, last week of June...

Lots of nice 40k and a WHOLE LOTTA gaming that is non 40k. I think it is the second biggest con aside from Gen Con Indy..

(plus, it is closer.. lol)

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

Order of St Ursula (Sisters of Battle): W-2, L-1, T-1
Get of Freki (Space Wolves): W-3, L-1, T-1
Hive Fleet Portentosa (Nids/Stealers): W-6, L-4, T-0
Omega Marines (vanilla Space Marine): W-1, L-6, T-2
Waagh Magshak (Orks): W-4, L-0, T-1

Definitely! I 'worked' half of the show last year (although working a booth in the exhibit hall is pretty fun). There's a ton of stuff to see. GenCon is a bit more RPG-focused, but there's a lot of boardgames and such as well.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

I second Historicon. I only went once (it was in Lancaster then) and it was totally awesome and bakingly hot. Horse flies the size of a giant's thumb. So much to do there and awesome, awesome games, flea markets, vendors and bars at the hotel. There were even chicks in the bar on the Friday and Saturday nights. A bottle of Vodka was like $4! It was great. King of Prussia's Historicon I know not. They also have Fall-in and Cold Wars, but Historicon is the Christmas of Historical Wargaming.

Seconded.

Origins is more geared towards miniatures while GenCon tends to be more about RPGs (in my experience).

Seeing as they've moved GamesDay to Chicago from Baltimore, near where I'm from, are there any East Coast conventions worth attending. I'm aware of Historicon, just wondering if there are any others that aren't more than 4 hours drive time away from the metro D.C. area.
