Looks great. Love the POV pics.

I'm 90% done with my 10 man assualt squad. Still need the jumppacks on the last 4 (they are 80% painted - all the checks take time) and Basing. That leave me with only 2 figures left and then my Heavys. I'M so hoping to get the packs finished tonight.

Those look great. What model are you going to use for your commander? Or are you going to build up one from scratch?

Any thoughts on the ravens yet? Checkers all the way around?

ICE - Ironically, I plan to use the FW Red Scorpion Libby for my HQ. I'd was hoping that the head was seperated but not to be. I would like to use a different head but it's a complex sawing procedure, I'm not sure I can pull it off and save the head ( I'm no WM of Git when it come to conversions). I'll also give him the Sanguior (sp) wings and jumppack.

For the ravens I plan to " Herarldic" out as much as I can. I may try a bit of Gits battle damage techniques. Starting to magnitize the weapons and weapon load outs. I have a few old world tricks I'm planning to spring. Hope not to disapoint.

I really need to get the assualt squad based including 1/2 half of them off the ground.

GIT - Thanks, watching you paint your sternguard has been helpful.

VITRUVIAN - I used foundation Idyiadian sun (SP) 1 watered down golden yellow. Sepia wash- heavy followed by 2 to 3 more Golden yellow, finished with sunburst yellow for highlights. Very much like GITs formula ( which I re-applied. Black areas & Lines with a fine brush , ( really happy about finally doing a decent job of defing all the finger joints.

I need that Air brush !!!!!

Question! You're using the rules for Mephiston right? He doesn't have a jump pack, I'd save the time and give him a regular back pack without the sanguinor wings. Thats another reason why Mephiston is so awesome. Unlike new 40k special characters, Mephiston is an upper class kind of guy.

Is he huge and ridiculous? No.
Does he have obnoxious wings? Certainly not!
Does he have a gawdy weapon? Nope, he wields a lame plasma pistol that he never fires. It's probably dusty!

Mephiston just psychically flies around quietly murdering everything on the field of battle, listening to his iEmperorpod, drinking his enemies blood out of boredom.

I say you use the sweet Forgeworld model, put a lame plasma pistol on the ground and have him tiping back a nice bowl of Astartes Blood!

Even better have him standing on the chest of a headless minotaur, drinking the blood out of the Minotaurs helmet!

OH-I Wanna get out of here

Yeah, a jump pack would not be WYSIWYG. You could probably put one of the wrist mounted PP from the Sang Guard kit on him pretty easy like.

And for the record, I hate the Mephiston model, so static and ugly.

@WM & BH - Right, that two less friends on the Christmas card list. I love the Mephiston model, though maybe that's nostalgia. I see your point about the collar, but come on he's a classic.

Remember he's not Mephiston. He's the Lamenters version of Mephiston. The Wings represent the WoS psychic power. I wanted to do something not recognizable as Mephiston. I have the original model but as my special character I wanted to do something more unique. WM is right I should leave off the Jetpack. Thanks.

More planning to do. More painting to do.

Finished my Assault squad. There is about 10 touch ups items/ do better items I'd like to get to, but unless I move on I will not be able to get what I need done. ~sigh~

I could live with the model, but I just hate hate hate the plasma pistol arm. You cant even hold your arms like that in not-power armor, hows he pulling it off? Dumb.
Old=/=Classic

Looks good SL, and I can totally see the point of wings, just not the Jump Pack. Better hurry up though, your running out of time!

I havent been caught up on your thread, because I dont necessarily feel like reading 13 pages of post. But somewhere between my first reply when you were in the fundamental stages of your ice angels, your space marine project took a significant turn....because now all I see are Cincinnati Bengals Marines! What happened? Cant say that I dislike it though. It is rare to see anyone paint their SM orange. The bengal stripes look fantastic...a nice improvement over the ice angels. Great work!

You should check out all 13 pages, lots of good pictures. But to get you up to speed, the striped marines are my old version of the Astral Claws which I'm creating for Adepticon. The Ice Angels will be back afterwards, they are still my main army. The plan is to basically repaint the Ice Angels, more like this......

but that won't happen until after Adepticon. I am actually looking forward to taking all of my new skills back towards my own army. I've got a lot of barrels to drill and a lot of painting to clean up. I feel that this little 1,000 Adepticon army has really raised my own painting level so hopefully when I get back to my Angels they'll actually start to look good!

They do look good. And practice makes ( close to ) perfect. I have a whole army of figures painted 15 years ago to remind me where I left off.
Keep up the good work.

I have no problem doing some refitting, but we can cross that bridge later because now it is time for an update!

These two pics are of my terminators and the mostly completed commander I've built. He has a shield but that will be attached later. If you look carefully at the picture with the two termies and my commander you may see pieces of the same door, they will all be painted Sons of Medusa style to really stand out. On the other bases I've added another banner and a hand coming out of the ground attempting to grasp a discarded bolter. After doing the star phantom banner, which can be easily seen under my lascannon marine, I've really liked the idea. I am thinking something a bit obnoxious as well, possibly Howling Griffin banner.

Here is another updated picture of my land raider, I've started to paint it dirty and worn along with the recently added top hatches. It's coming along nicely. Only a few minor things to work on before I can check that off my list.

Awesome! From what i can see of the commander, he looks boss

Cant help but feel the claws on the LR icon should be picked out in bone, to stop it looking like an imperial fist icon. The sharp ends of the fingers get lost a bit atm.

I am going for the original version of the Astral Claws, not the new one. Here is the first Astral Claw image from the old white dwarf.

The second is an image used by, I think it was the Belloflostsoul guys, which I took the iconography from. I knew I wasn't going to be able to paint on a lions head on my guys shoulder pads, lol. My marines ended up being a cross between the two.

Nice LR Ice! But I am in agreement with Vitruvian, picking out the claws will make it look a lot less Imperial-Fist-like.
I'm also loving the shoulder mounted bolter your commander has. May I ask what head you're using for him? Looks like a medieval knight's helmet, similar to William Thatcher's in A Knight's Tale, if you know the film. (Heath Ledger at his most awesome, the Joker aside ofc )

Hmm I see what you're saying and I agree, however all of the hands and symbols in my army are in black, so I may just try to highlight the black more, or darken the surrounding symbol to further draw your attention to the claw. Thoughts?

Sandyman11 - The helmet is from Chapterhouse. Corien apparently has a techpriest hook up because they built him the custom backpack, special sword, and other things so i figured he probably wouldn't have a standard helm and that one is by far my favorite Chapterhouse helm.

Well, i think youve got two chouces:

Paint the claws black and the hand a bit lighter

Paint the claws bone or simply light grey

I'll mess around with it this weekend and let you know!

On a slight side note, does any one else find it incredibly amusing that the raffle army for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure at Adepticon is a death guard army. I hope that was on purpose because that is fantastic. "Lets beat cancer by giving away an army dedicated to the lords of disease and decay!" lol, that's awesome.

The Astral Claws are the Tiger Claws in the original version of the Badab War fluff. Its only in the recent addition of the fluff that the two have become distinct chapters. The Tiger claws are now considered to be a successor to the Astral claws.
