Anyway, this news has inspired me to do a necromunda game in this fashion. Imagine each player has a gang (either Steel Legion, Hive Gangers, even Marine Scouts) and rather than fighting each other they fight NPC orks. You would need modify Necromunda campaign rules very little to do this.
There were rules for this in Outlanders.
Ah, yes, I forgot about them. Back in the day I did a take on that scenario with multiple gangs holding off a genestealer cult invasion (well, the blue space hulk genestealers and various random gangers as brood brothers). It might have been a combination of purge and storm the barricade scenario, or maybe one after the other. Good times.

You're right. I just mis-remembered. I thought those guys came out after the starter set. Just checked on the GW site and they were in there. Man, that's a pretty packed starter set.
You got that right, the starter set is an amazing deal!
Even the starter book is great for helping people into the setting, giving ideas for epic battles in fantastical locations and cool scenarios that even include a single-player scenario.
I wonder if the new starter will use the same book or a new one?
A cheaper price and new fluff could tempt me to expand my Stormcasts further.
Not a huge AoS fan, but the color coded factions and incorporated terrain are a fantastic idea for making it a more approachable product. Elitist poo pooing misses the point- want better? Paint them!
Indeed, I've read alot of accounts that quickly putting the starter set together and dipping the armies in two colors is how alot of new hobbyists try out AoS.
Perfect Organism wrote: That makes it seem like it's a Stormcloud Attack style thing, with maybe kill-teams for two different factions in each box.
If there's a unique terrain piece in each box, that could be interesting. From what I can see, it looks like the terrain might be Necromunda-style mixed plastic and cardboard. The big round thing and the supports are almost certainly plastic, but the platforms and sides look suspiciously flat and I think I can see a white edge on some of them.
I was thinking that could be it. They could release a bunch of boxed sets with a piece of terrain and 1-2 factions each, and sell them for barely more than the price of the terrain individually.
NivlacSupreme wrote: Is it just me or is 10 scouts against 10 orks really not fair?
Depends on the system. They could have buffed Orks (who are fielding a Nob with Klaw to be fair and have a heavy weapon).
It's going to be really hard to tell what's balanced without knowing the rules. Maybe scouts are way tougher than they are in 40k, and the orks have some sort of "unending horde" rule where if they die there's a chance the model is placed coming in from the side as a "new" ork showing up to the scrap.
Not sure if this will go along side Kill Team or replace it, but if it replaces Kill Team I hope they have a way of including just as many units in it. One of the things I really liked about Kill Team is that so many different units could be played.

Is there any chance that the game might get followups? The title makes me think Shadow war: Armageddon. What if they plan on making an eventual shadow war: necromunda as opposed to simply reprinting necromunda again. At a kill team scale the gangs should be a reasonable threat even to marines.

lord_blackfang wrote: Yeah, my point is that saying "if you wanna play Necromunda just play Necromunda" is perfectly valid.
Yes it is, in an entirely tautological manner. So well done. You've successfully proven that people can play Necromunda if they want to play Necromunda. Mystery solved. Our collective stress levels can all recede and we can all go back to arguing about Nu-Marines and the 40K End Times.
In the meantime however, I'll point out that GW appear to be billing this (at least to retailers based upon the photos) as a spiritual successor to Necromunda, so as long as they're doing that the comparisons to Necromunda are both apt and valid. And so far, this isn't Necromunda. It's 40K skirmish with some fancy looking terrain.
And that would be fine - the terrain pieces looks fan-fething-tastic to me! - if it was just that, a skirmish 40K game. But they're saying it is akin to Necromunda and something to get veterans interested. Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining (is that how that phrase goes... is it head rather than leg... either way, whatever, you get what I'm saying).
This isn't Necromunda. It's not even related to Necromunda, but they're saying that it's following on, essentially, from Necromunda. But it is not Necromunda, so just stating "You can still play Necromunda!" whilst logically true isn't a useful statement, and I go back to my original statement:
You can still play Warhammer Fantasy Battles, but it's not the same when there's no support from the parent company.
lord_blackfang wrote: And I'm oh so sorry for pre-countering the next counterargument, this discussion has been done so many times I've become exceedingly efficient at it.
You can happy going about beating down the legions of straw men at your door, but I never made the argument that people need GW to 'allow' them to play older games, or whatever it was you said about pick up games (seriously, WTF? Who even brought that up?).
People want Necromunda. The specialist game announcement from a year or so ago made specific mention of Necromunda. What got announced today? Armageddon with existing Scout and Ork models, billed as a 'successor' to Necromunda.
Can you see why this might annoy some people, especially those who consider Necromunda to be their fav GW game (like me), and why it has nothing to do with being 'allowed' by GW to do anything.
It's not the Duradin... It's the Kharadron Overlords!

So that is 5 games announced so far this year, plus Titanicus. Bonkers!
Edit. Wow, that is a lot more scenery!
This may be the most I have spent on GW stuff in a month ever. April is crazy.

I mean, fifty bucks is on the line.
There's no rule that says I can't.
Seems great so far. Although it's a bit boring vertically speaking with the just the terrain from the box compared to necromunda. Luckily that can be easily fixed.

Good to see the sisters neglected, what with them never having anything in the fluff about them having engagements remotely close to Armageddon during the conflict.
