we do own about three already... but each look differently...so i might need to buy some for the ship to look not too ragtaged...

i had that thought too... but with two sons you tend to have each item at least two time to sooth the bickering down a bit... not that it prevents it very much^^

yeah well hen i guess it is high time i install a stearing wheel^^ which incidently i have planned to do so tomorrow... and funnyly before my wife and kids went for their holiday we were on a flea market and guess what we got... a true playmobil pirate stearing wheel... which i will mount tomorrow... so cross fingers for a nice inspiring work!

yup... lucky me... also this is the one piece i feared to make on my own...so really tough luck for once...and it is so important as the minis can interact there and an other thing would have caused promblems...

essentially yes.... there is still the railing for the bridge, but that goes along with the wheel,
then there is the minor issue that this is a sailing ship...so in essence it should sport some sails...non?

and the rigging maybe...but i could skip that for my part...

You can always add sails and rigging later if you think they will interfere with play.

you really think so? hmmm... it would be a major pain to make the rigging ...the sials i think i coiuld manage, but for real they would interfere with play a lot...we have had recently the viking ship...which we traded for the roman galley and also we own the firemen ship...different time scales dont really bother my kids^^ pirates for sure battle policemen and firemen alike^^

but everytime they play with the sailships they turn the sails 90°....so they are not a hinderance any more...

Maybe as simple as the mast fits into a tube but with only gravity holding it in...

Honestly, I don't see any homemade configuration of sails being as flexible as the toy-grade plastic like Playmobil is made of, and that stuff isn't meant to be glued, it's meant to be molded solid for playwear. IMHO it is a lot harder to work with than styrene. And styrene works for models, but not toys. ..not that I am admitting a fetish of mine is plastic or anything

Skids look functional enough. Does the slightly diagonal alignment effect performance? (as if you can measure something like that )

the v-shaped skidds are meant to make it easier in my mind to move the ships hull over the carpet...will test it tomorrow tho...but what is done is done...ripping those off now would cause too much hurt...for the ship and me...

dstein, you are bang to right with your theory...i highly doubt if i could come up with a sail config that would allow playability as the standard sails would allow...sadly...


bit i will try to make one for the look of the thing...dunno, maybe i get it out of sheer stuborn luck done working...^^

It depends how rough the kids will play with it, but triangular canvas could work if it's not in danger of getting destroyed ^^

i thought more along the lines of laminate (this time for real! no PVA involved) Paper...then cut to fit...

also... picupdate of my early morning work... did some interior work...curtains...then texturized the mast...and created a flag...a very basic shape for now...








all is done with soaked tissue with PVA...it is a real blessing in my opinion...you can create so manny different surfaces with that... i think i will use my learned Know-How shortly in terrainmaking...no doubt!

thanks mate! will have to cure now but you think the general ship as seen here is almost done building and will see paint that very day...will use cheaper paint to prime it by hand...

hmm the soaked tissue looks nice, ive only ever used it in terrain but i might try it as a cape like you suggested
