hail fellow dakkanauts, scarecrow here, i have two qusetions to put to you:
first- how many of you out there, strive for 100% completion in your games;
second- how many games have you completed to 100%, and what are they?
i will start, i am trying to 100% all 9 of my 360 games, but i cannot, since i can't afford to pay for an xbox live subscrition, and i have 'platinum-ed' two games, Dead Space, and its sequel, Dead space 2,
so, any other out there who wish to share, please do.
as always,
Scarecrow.

Never really bothered me - I like to see the end of games but I don't spend umpteen hours replaying them to get every single secret and xbox achievements. That being said I can see the attraction in doing so - especially when paying £30 or so for a new game, it makes sense to try and prolong the investment.
The only exception I have made to this is the GTA series. I have played through every single GTA title to 100% completion so far.

fair enough filbert, fair enough. though, some games deserve to be played for hours on end, not for too many hours mind you, and others do not.
an example i can think of (please dont kill me for saying this) is halo reach, i played it, finished the campaign, which was not the greatest, and i was dissapointed, so, i decided that i will not ever (at least in the foreseeable future) go out and buy it, simply because it did not turn out to be as great as it has been hyped up to be.
ah well,
just another quick question that i forgot to add in earlier, for those of you you there who own a copy of dead space 1 and 2, how many of you have beaten their hardest difficulties, and how hard did you find the challenges presented?
again, as always,
scarecrow

I'm never going to be a completionist. I have loaaaads of gamer points and achievements (and 5 years of XBL), yet only one gameat 100%; and that was an Arcade game.

Of the 65 games on my profile, I have: 2 at 100% (both single player ) 1 at 98% 1 at 95% 1 at 94% 1 at 89% 1 at 87% 1 at 83% 1 at 78% 1 at 75% There are about 10 at 1-15% (basically games I got cheap and decided I didn't like, or games I borrowed from people). The rest are generally between about 30-60%. My wife has far fewer games (17) and 7 of them are at 100%

I got like 26K points and no games with 100% completetion. It's just not worth the time. Rather play more different games.

Agreed.
I have 26k points, and only have two games 100%, both arcade (200/200), and there is only really one retail game I want to 100% (Brutal Legend). And the only acheivment I need for Brutal Legend is the one for 50 Wins in a Dead Multiplayer that I am terrible in....

I feel the same whether I get 1 achievement or 10 achievements; if there's one I can easily get, then i'll get it, but if it requires forward planning, graphs, pie-charts, props, the hiring of stuntmen or extras etc. then feth it; i'd rather go and do something else.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Yeah! Another Brutal Legend fan: virtual high five! If that's the only acheivement you're missing be proud. Just glad you got all the artifacts of legend: loved those.

I have 29 games at 100%.
If I enjoy a game enough I'll try to 100% it but if it's a choice of playing a game I've already finished on a harder difficulty level or playing a new game the new game will always win. I have a short attention span when it comes to games so if I've already experienced a campaign/story I have little desire to replay it; this is also the reason why I rarely get any multiplayer achievements as I find multiplayer modes bore me very quickly as they get samey.
A good example of this is Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga. I've got 900 points from this game, the remaining 100 come from an achievement for reaching 100%. To get to 100% I need to replay each level twice (having played them all at least twice already), once to collect blue minikits and again in super story mode. No thanks! Traded it in.
I do wish they'd stop adding achievements to games for DLC that I don't own though. You could probably knock several thousand points off my possible score if these weren't included.

Depends on the game.
There are some games which I know I won't get 100% in (either because I'm not very good at them, or the achievements are too ridiculous), so I just play to enjoy the game. However, if I enjoy a game enough, and I know that I'm able to get the achievements I need to, I'll try to go for 100%. I almost never get there, but I still try when I find the motivation.

If the achievements/trophies are 100% doable without resorting to online play then I'll do them, but I have no intention of spending my valuable gaming hours chasing scrotey Korean children around with a raygun when I have incredibly grown-up things to do like daub tiny metal men with paint so I can throw dice at them...

All materia at master level, all the super materia, everyone at level 99 with all their limit breaks (minus aerith, but I had her lvl 4 when she died). All the best weapon, at least one of every item... Took forever.

I wouldn't spend an inordinate amount of time playing boring game modes and doing menial tasks just so I could get an achievement. I'd rather have fun with my game. None of the games listed above were actually difficult to complete to 100% (achievements-wise). The achievements in AC2 with the exception of feather-hunting, were really easy and just unlocked by playing the game normally. I had fun though collecting the feathers. The cities are really well made, and I enjoyed this as a chance to discover them.
