From the recent website update on the upcoming Sphinx:

"I had to make sure that this model was unmistakably 'Warhammer' and not just an ancient sphinx. That's why it's covered in skulls. A scorpion is still a scorpion until it gets a skull for a face - then it's a Warhammer scorpion."

GW has never taken itself completely seriously. Hell, half the established fluff has been in-jokes and pop culture references going back to the 80s. It's good to hear there are folks who still keep that same sense of humor though.

Agreed, it's good to see that they can still laugh at themselves as shown by this and the april fools dice book.

The author's quote would make an amusing 1 word madlib.

A _________ is still a ____________ until it gets a skull for a face - then it's a Warhammer ___________.

My take:
A kitten is still a kitten until it gets a skull for a face -then it's a Warhammer kitten.

Needs more skulls...

They need to have pauldrons with skulls on them and spikes with skulls impaled on them and skulls dangling forom belts attached by chains. And they all need to be walking on piles of skulls.

That would make a good suggestion for a Dakka Dakka page title insert. (The little one-liner put in the title...) I think there's a thread somewhere to suggest additions...

GW's roots are all in not taking themselves too seriously. I think part of the reason the magic has disappeared for me in the last couple of editions is that to some extent they've moved away from that. Things like the Space Wolf Wolf Lord riding a giant Wolf Wolf are played straight, and it just doesn't work.

Basically, the Space Wolf codex didn't have enough skulls.

There was a picture of that thing in the last issue of WD. I briefly considered coming up with a new way of rating GWS models: Skulls Per Square Inch. One image was about 2 inches by 2 inches: I started counting skulls but gave up at 38, so it has a SPSI of at least 9.5.
