Im trying to find that holy grail of a original Ork list that still can be tournament friendly.
Any help here? I was thinking of Boomguns. You can move 6" and fire something that kills razorbacks with ease that and it adds some range to a list. I was also thinking of a Battlewagon. Anyway Im wondering whats your opinion on the boomgun how do you use them and what would make a good original tournament ork list.

And you said tournamnet friendly If I didn't say it somebody else would have.
Really Battlewagon rush is what's left (apparently). Lots of wagons with deff rollas, ghazz, KFF big mek, squads of 19-20 boyz, maybe burnas and nobz.
TBH I would think any kind of list would be "tournament friendly". Just a matter of opinion (and actual gameplay) whether it'll win games or not.

Uh....conflicting messages here.
You want two things:
1. An original list
2. A competitive list
Given that the codex is a couple years old now, those two don't go together. Everything, every combination....has been tried by someone. And discussed. If you want to go the easy route, check out some of my batreps. Ghazghkull's Harem, Purpleanium Predilection....whatever name is used, give them a look. Avoid the SVDM batreps, that was an early variant of my army.

Ok sure, just making sure you know. Btw if you clump them up you can get 5 battlewagons in kff range ! Oh and I would advise you flank them with a trukk on either side so your side armour is not hit in turn 1.

Trukks don't sheild the whole aide armour and would give the model a 4+SV. You flank your Battlewagon with KFF with two other Battlewagons.
Anyway Im running something different again. I can't make my mind up with the Orks.

The wife's unconventional Orks:
Klaw-boss for HQ.
10 lootas & 10 Burnas as Elites
6 diversified nobz(4 w/BC, 1 PK, 1 Painboy, 3 have t-l Shootas, 1 w/Shoota scorcha, 1 boss pole, 1 Waagh banner, the Nobz have 'eavy armor, all 6 have cybork) all in a trukk
10 boyz w/PK+BP nob in a trukk
20 Slugga boyz w/PK+BP nob
20 shoota boyz w/PK+BP nob + 2 Big shootas
11 Bikes w/PK+BP nob
Looted Wagon w/boomgun
Battle wagon w/Kannon, BS, Deff rolla, Riggers, and Armor plates
All vehicles have red paint and all but BW have rams, all transports have a boarding plank.
Salt+pepper upgrades as you see fit(the wife has 2 60-point trukks) Her list comes out to 1850 as that is what most tourneys in our area are.

It seems alright but I would feel best with more Boyz. Im going for 1500-1750 for the Throne of Skulls tournament next year. Now I would like to field my Orks since everyone will take GK and I would like to outnumber the enemy.
Im thinking of Boomwagon/spam. In short battlewagon spam with the Killkannon upgrade for anti MEQ. Move 6" ands then fire 24'. So effectively a 30' range weapon. Its that and some Lobbas too pin things in place for me hopefully.

I already did my Kan wall. I had 110 boyz at 1500P and some Meganobz. Kan walls are great but I need more original lists than that. Its for a tournament after all.
I was thinking Boomguns and Trukks. That and a squad of Lootas or two to protect my flanks and take out enemy transport. Original and it still can work. Automatically Appended Next Post: Actually why not a Biker army? On the first turn I get a 3+ cover save that and they're dammed tough and good in a fight. Go look up RedBeard, he took a biker list to a tourny recently. He didnt do too bad either, but Ive heard hes a really tough player, which is key. Bikers would be different, but they are pretty costly and easy enough to take out.
The problem I see with trying to use the killkannon on a BW is the range really. Youll find that to be a bad idea real fast.

Careful. Bikers aren't particularly good. King Cracker, you're talking about Adepticon - Redbeard won best appearance, but he didn't do well in his actual games; and the armies he played against weren't particularly scary either. He's wicked good with what he has, but doesn't use a particularly good list.
Since you haven't commented on the batreps, I presume you're discarding Mechanized Orks then. *shrugs* Good luck to whatever you choose! More Ork players are always welcome.

For an original list you might try the trukk-spam list that placed well at adepticon. Basically 8 trukks(6x boyz 2x 3 MANz) plus an 'ard cased battlewagon with tank bustas and big mek and two boom gunz. Never seen it in action or tried it, so it might not work at all and the guy playing it just got lucky/is damned good.
|
7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

Biker lists are one-trick ponies. Too many points squeezed into small, leadership-weak units. No Mob Rule, no hoards of boyz to swamp the enemy, very little anti-tank....
Battlewagon boys are pretty hard to beat. Killkannons and Boomguns are a lot of points for average weapons, though.

I agree, Biker orks are "ok" at best. They are expensive units that probably going to run away in tghe first few turns. Big mobs of boys are good. I curently play 2 squads of 30 boyz (1 slugga boy mob, 1 shoota boy mob) They are fairly effective.

You can find Redbeard's batreps here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/358378.page
Give them a read to see how he used them.
He went 2-1-1 at Adepticon; one of those games being against someone who was being a turd and came to the table with "I don't want to play, you can win." Not sure why someone would travel to a big event, and not put their all into every game.
Kudos for him winning half his games with Bikes; its definitely a ballsy army to bring to a GT - I just don't believe that warbikers belong in a competitive environment.

Yea that was the one, I basically remembered he took a biker army, that was the extent of the memory
But ya, bikers are way to costly both in points and in actual money, to be used well. Like I said, you would have to be a real badass player to pull it off, and even then, youll mostly get victories because your opponent wont be expecting bikers (some people cant think on their toes)
Seriously OP, if you want a different build, bikers is not where its at, even in friendly games they just dont perform that well.

Ok. Where too look then. With my Inquisition its original and I tabled my first opponent with it for no loss. He was relatively new and I've been at this for two years which is small if we consider other players.
Anyway where too look? Im original and competitive at 500P i have only lost once out of 17 games at that point level.
So where does my Ork inspiration lie? Kommando assaults? Always loved the though of Kommandoes and Looted Boomguns and the like. Not really practical though. Snikrot and 15 Kommadoes is as far as I will go bow.
Anyway I digress. Any help here with Originality and Competetive?

You're still asking for two things that don't go well hand in hand. Competitive requires you to bash out against the typical army lists of a tournament - being original is more for fun.
Besides it's your call. Look through the Ork dex and get a feel for the kind of army you can build about, not just the units. I mean you can do a Blood Axe army that uses heavy amounts of kommandos and boyz and swrams the enemy in that regard. You could do an Evil Sunz style list of trukkers, bikers and koptas. You could do a Battlewagon Rush list as siad before. Or a Death Skullz list with the boomguns and lots of shoota boyz, in vehicles potentially.

I suggest flashgit heavy army. Ability to have ap1 weapons, what wouldn't want that. They are also different as I barely see anyone using them. I know they can be useless if you get bad ap rolls, but so can everything else in tabletop gaming. its all about lucky dice rolls.
Could be fun the convert the models aswell.
Would be cool to see a shooty ork army that may work competitively. You don't know till you try in my opinion anyway.

Yea you could try the flashgits heavy list. Infact a guy here on DAKKA did just that, and hes a tourny player. I dont remember who it was, but he made a FlashGits heavy list for fun, and ended up beating alot of his friends that are also tourny players. His battle rep even had little story parts in it like the Ork boss was telling the story or something along those lines.
It inspired me to give it a try, but along the way, I ended up having a love affair with rokkit spam, so I kindda stopped making FlashGits

Warbikes require a lot of finesse to use effectively. Certainly make use of your wound shenanigan Nobz squads, and make sure you take a biker boss. Seriously 'ard unit there. But in all honesty, a biker list isn't quite as point and click as a green tide, kan wall, or battlewagon rush. It requires you to be very good at maneuvering and making good use of your cover saves, in addition to turbo boosting. Also, unless you want to just have bikes filling your elite and fast attack slots, you are required to take Wazdakka Gutsmek to make bikers troops.
