My brother has just started playing WH40K. We've already got the Space Marine Battleforce, as well as (maybe) a Tau Battleforce (no Devilfish) on the way. Any suggestions on the units he should take? Please list the wargear too.

Beginner's luck is far too short-lived. After a week, you get decimated. Every time.
Second, third and fourth match of WHFB: 
The resulting explosion killed my best unit of troops. 'Cause that's fair and legal. |

Tau army eh? No tau army is complete without battlesuits if you ask me, (even in the codex you HAVE to take a battlesuit commander)
I recommend some battlesuits armed with plasma rifles, multi-trackers, and one other choice of weapon you'd like
Plasma rifles are good for taking out most armor saves and have good strength too, the multitracker allows a battlesuit to fire more than one weapon during their turn. As for other weapons I would recommend a burst cannon or missile pod
broadside battlesuits are also good, because a squad of 2 or 3 has more potential to take out a vehicles like a land raider rather than from just one hammerhead tank

Hmmm, well Tau are due an update (they need it IMO, but Suits are the way to go.
SMs, well, depends on the Codex of choice. Theres plenty of Army list Threads in WH40k Army Lists, hope that helps

Thanks guys.
My brother's thinking of playing Ultramarines (yeah, I know). He used some spare parts from the SM Battleforce to make a Captain, with Artificer armour, Power fist, Stormshield, Melta bombs, and Iron Halo.
Also just wondering, does the 3+ Invulnerable Save from the Stormshield count for JUST CC, or is it constant?
