Well the news has been out for a week, GW has stopped independent sellers in the UK and USA from on selling to the southern hemisphere. My favorite trader, Maelstrom Games, who used to post my orders to my door and at a 'great' discount when compared to the local GW store has informed me that they can no longer do this because of restrictive sales agreements with GW.

Our hobby is not a cheap one especially down here in OZ, I will give you an example.

The core rule book for WH40k costs UKP35. or converted to OZ$53.08, however to buy the book down here it costs OZ$96.00 or UKP63.28. Thats a difference of UKP28.28, how can the company justify charging us a more than 100% markup?

If you want to help us, send an e-mail of protest to GW or go into one of their stores and have-a-go at their staff over the company's restrictive practices. Please do it in a nice way.

The fallout from the embargo down here is a wedge between GW gamers and modelers and it seems everyone else (mostly gamers of other systems) who could not give a damn or would like to attack the tall poppy that is GW.

My local group that I worked so hard to start a 40k league in has cancelled our end of year 40k tournament and may throw the 40k gamers out as being too much of a bother to deal with.
(Malifaux and Hordes from Wyrd Miniatures have made big inroads into the gaming community over the last two years)

I throughly enjoy my hobby and would hate to throw away ten years of model making because of a backlash in the gaming community.

So if you have the time, type out a few words of protest to GW or have a 'stern' chat with their staff, not just the redshirts ask to see the manager.

Thanks guys.

Anyone else hurt? Maybe the people in the other five threads covering not only this but the other things GW has done recently.

IMO if it gets too rough and GW doesn't budge a LOT of gamers will be selling off their armies and moving on... I know I, for one, will be getting rid of my armies if the price increases decrease participation in my area. Seriously, we're barely coming out of a recession here in the US, and with gas prices, we can barely afford a box every payday for the average person!

Because kicking out a subset of your membership over what GW corporate is doing is both logical and wise. its also constructive and reasonable.

also store managers have no say in whats going on. never have, never will.

I am still confused about what is going on, having only glanced at all of the bad new that is spreading like wild fire, what countries are effected by this, are GW products no longer avalible in certain regions? Is anything happening to US stores?

Who's hurt? Anyone who isn't in the EU or North America, that's who.

Anyway, this is neither news nor rumour, and should be moved to General Discussion.

US is getting a price increase. The availibility issue involves stores in the UK shipping to places like Australia.

That's a really stupid thing for any club to do. It makes no sense, and somehow, I just don't believe it. More drama from people coming to dakka for the first time.

The price increase that we're getting here in the US sure does hurt us. Not as badly as you guys getting clubbed by the "Embargo" granted.

But Aus and NZ do not stand alone in this.

Gonna have to say that Canada also pays ridiculous prices vs our currency... we pay 10-20% more than the u.s while our dollar is worth more. Not as bad as OZ, but not cool either.

MajorTom11 - Does the North American emgargo shut out Canada as well? I thought it was "North America" (which would include Canada) and not "United States"?

It hurts everyone, but that's not really what the OP asked about. He asked about the emgargo.

Worglock wrote:But Aus and NZ do not stand alone in this.

I didn't imply they did. I said "North America and EU". There's a lot of places in the world that aren't either of these two things - Russia, South America, all of Asia. They're hit just as badly as Oz/Kiwiland.

What customer hasn't been hurt this week by the four-tipped spear GW hurled at them? That includes the end-user retail customers, the distributors and independent sellers, and probably GW's own shops and employees too. If one or more of the four really risky dramatic changes coming into effect during the next few weeks turn out to be disastrous for GW, I wonder how long it will take them to make a change to mitigate it?

No you wont.

ZOMG, you have no money to buy non-luxury good, yet you whine about the cost of a luxury good.

If you're in a recession, thats the first to go!

If you have no money, dont waste it on games workshop.

As for coming to Dakka for the first time(?), if you bothered to look you would have noticed I joined the community in 2008!

Negative people like you are whats wrong with the gaming community, I guess you won't put pen to paper to tell GW how you feel.

But thanks for bumping the thread along.

Players, please to take the time to tell the staff and manager of your local GW store that you think the embargo is unfair and that you don't like the yearly price rises, they in no way follow the cost of living expenses nor to the follow inflation trends. At the moment GW seems to charge what they think the public will bare.

Veteran players like you and myself have been largely ignored by GW, forget the glowing words in White Dwarf magazine, they are written by a yes man in the system. GW's retail strategy at the moment is to appeal and sell to the 9-16 year old market, who's parents pay for their purchases. You are forgotten and they hope that your loyalty to the hobby keeps you supporting and buying from GW no matter how much the raise the price or how poorly they treat you.

Ironically mikhaila is an extremely positive influence on the community, as you would be aware if you browsed Dakka at all frequently. He runs many events from his store, is constantly expanding it to invest in gaming space, etc.

Please understand what I'm saying by calling it a stupid thing to do.

- Most gaming clubs I've seen are a bunch of friends that get together to play games, enjoy each others company, drink some beer, and talk about most anything.
- Kicking out a bunch of guys who play 40k makes no sense to me. You're kicking out your mates that you drink beer and game with? WTH?
- Who kicks them out? The guys that don't play GW and therefore don't care about it? Or the guys that play GW games are kicking themselves out?

There's absolutely no reason for a club to treat it's own members that way.

I'm not being 'Negative' here, I'm horrified that anyone would treat their own friends that way.

As to not 'taking pen to paper' and writing GW, correct, I won't. I'm sure the 5 phone calls and 2 dozen emails I did this week are quite enough.) Trust me that I have spent hours and hours discussing things with GW this week, and most every week. It's what I do for a living.
