The ISIL damaged one helicopter and it was forced to land in the suburbs of Palmyra. On the ground, the terrorists destroyed the helicopter but the crew managed to escape on the second helicopter, which miraculously survived.

It's the old Armor vs Missile argument. The simple solution that people ignore really hard a surprising amount of the time is that active defenses are more effective when the missile has to be fat and slow to penetrate the passive armor. (Missile diameter increases in proportion to the level of armor penetration from the warhead, which degrades missile in flight performance.)

You keep the M1A2 to yourself, but the older M1A1 is sold. Australia has 60 M1A1, and Egypt has about 1,000. Saudi Arabia has 300. Iraq has 150. There's
Just looked this up on wiki to see if I forgot any countries, and learned Kuwait has the M1A2. Which the US wasn't selling to us. Not fething happy America.
What are you complaining about? Everybody knows the Aussie military only use those to drive around and squash the gigantic fething spiders from hell which roam freely around your island.
Back OT, confirmation of another significant ISIL feth meeting his maker.

And we need the depleted uranium hull and advanced fire control to stand any chance against the spiders.
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Many of those pictures have been circulating the internet are from before ISIS even existed... A couple are from Libya IIRC, in the case of that Humvee it was owned by a state army.

I think the t-90 might be more useful, not because it's in any way better (it's not), but because it's like 1/5th the cost. Then again, what do I know?
The T-90 can shoot missiles from its gun. That makes it instantly may more awesome and therefore better than the Abrams.

It instantly becomes more awesome if you weld a launch rail to it and can fire dumpy ill maintained rockets from it that way.

It's really not as useful as you'd think. The Sheridan and M60A2 both fitted similar technologies. Do you fire a missile that reactive armor can wreck, and will draw a line right back to you, or a shell that's more likely to cause damage and harder to see comming?
And this isn't really new, during the Falkland's War, the Argentinians put Exocets on the back of pickup trucks and parked them near the beach to make mobile launchers.

You are missing something here. It is tank with a gun that shoots rockets.
I mean, come on, how awesome is that?

Awesome? Maybe. Useful in the field? Not really. It's right up there with building a tank that takes 8 submarine engines to move and uses a battleship turret. Awesome? Hells yes. Practical? Well....

Although on the other hand, ISIS is making the coalition bleed in Mosul. Don't underestimate them, as that what started this fething mess in the first place.

Probably because nobody died or is even in critical condition at this point in time. So really it is a great example of how ineffective knives are compared to guns when you want to kill a lot of people but other than that?
