I picked up a finecast model on Sunday just to see what all the hype is about, while observing the new blister i noticed that the batch code for my new Lord Commissar was - 000000.
This got me thinking, clearly this is one of the first finecast models made, and i suppose they all are at this stage, they only got released on Saturday. But my questions is do people think this may hold some value over time? with it being batch code 000000. Say if I put it in box for the next 10 years will it then be collectable.

I would say yes, as you say, they might be valuabe in 10 years, as a out of production modle as well as batch 000000.
BTW: Where do you find the batch number?

Printed on the back of the card, along the right edge, going vertically.

In years to come, the 3 remaining collectors with the finances to purchase GW items will refer to these as 'Year Zero' resins.

I would say the model would gain value over ten years, but the batch number probably wouldn't add much value. Unless the buyer really wanted to keep it in the package as some sort of collectable. The main thing here is how well will the resin hold up in the package after ten years. Will all the parts warp or keep their shape? If they warp from sitting under their own weight then the value will drop.
I don't see batch numbers really adding value to miniatures, because we take them out of the package and use them. If we kept them in the package then a collector might be looking for low numbers, and it might increase the value, but honestly most people buy them to use them. Unlike say action figures.

Well, lets look at the OOP metals.... they have not gained any value, and barely go for more than their in production plastic alternatives. The fact that I paid $15 twenty years ago does not compare with my paying $40 now, because some inflation comes into it, and the fact that the OOP lines are not as appealing as the current line.
I doubt it would keep its value. You might retain its NIB price and earn a couple extra bucks, but it is doubtful that you would make anything on it. Especially with the teething issues these batch hexanoughts have, you wont know if the other side of the model isn't a complete ruin.

It'll be worth more in 10 years just because of GW price increases. I just ebayed my TK army and when I went and checked the prices to see what I should put them up for I found much of my army was selling for about twice what I paid for it. $12 Scorpions are more than 20 now, same with Ushabti. Was a decent investment.

I'm pretty sure if you adjust your 'investment' for inflation and apply standard CD interest, you probably would have made more.

Actually oddly enough no.
At 5% interest over 8 years with a beginning value of $10 you only get $14.77. Found another website that said inflation was 21% over the last 8 years (this seems WAY WAY WAY high to me but whatever) and that gives you $17.87, and it would be a tiny bit higher if you applied the inflation each year but I'm not willing to do that math.
So no, buying GW is a better investment that many normal investment methods.

Tell me about it, I had a crap load of metal grey knight models that I bought for about $200 some 6-7 years ago. Ebayed them the day the new codex came up for preorder and sold then in one hour for $450.
At the rate prices and inflation are going, investing in GW miniatures might be a better alternative than the stock market

Will it become "collectible"?
Yes.
In the same way belly-button lint is a collectible.

The more I see of this release, the more I think these finecasts might be collectible in the same way that VirtualBoys and Crystal Pepsi are collectible.

I don't think the batch code means what you think it means, because this would be highly unlikely. I'm assuming you bought it in the UK?

Yeah mine was purchased in the York store in the UK on Sunday, and as per your photo mine does not have the one. it's just zero's.
Interesting response's. I had no intention of keeping the model unopened it was just something that came across my mind. However it is still unopened on my desk.

Thsi was my feeling.
However, there may be something in that as the batches get higher, not too high, the quality will improve.
Now, to determine when the next moulds are made so as to obtain sculpts with crisp details while also ensuring that the initial kinks are out.

Off Topic: Crystal Pepsi was DELICIOUS!!!
OP, probably not going to be worth more just because of the batch number.
If it was a collectors edition individually numbered model, then I could see the lower number having an affect on the collectability of it.
