hi Dakka!
I was helping a junior in our local club do up his WitchHunters/SoB list and noticed that the exorcist in particular is AUD$100 while FW offers its version for only GBP28.60 + 10% postage.
Has anyone else noticed this?

I suspect this is probably only true for Oz/NZ. FW is still the more expensive option over here but the gap is narrowing all the time. I expect GW's ultimate pricing strategy is to bring the two ranges to the same level (by raising GW rather than lowering FW!). FW sales have proven that people will pay the price for the models, so why not?

FW has been cheaper ever since the AUD topped the USD.
With the recent price increase, it became cheaper still.
FW resin ven dread is cheaper than the plastic GW one.
Hell, it was cheaper than the METAL one.

Yep, been hilariously true for quite a while. For a bit that Heresy era Land Raider was only $5 cheaper than the one in store. As for the Exorcist it makes sense it's so much cheaper.
The FW one is basically just a Rhino with some Valk Missile Pods thrown onto the top. At least when Maelstrom was able to, getting a Whirlwind and an Immolator was the way to go. For about $5 cheaper than the Whirlwind here you'd get an Exorcist and Rhino.
Whereas the actual Exorcist is an Immolator with a huge brick of metal on the top of it and metal armour, served in a plain brown box without instructions. Liked the model so much made it my last GW purchase for the foreseeable future.

Yeah I thought this was true as well (I live in NZ). Went and checked and hey presto $80 NZ for a very nice forge world nurgle dreadnought, instead of the terrible (in my opinion) GW chaos dread for $114 or there abouts I think..........Not sure if I should be happy or not. I'm leaning towards the later.

Isn't this all about exchange rates? The rate was once fully 2:1 with 500 pounds equaling $1000 USD. That's not the case now. So my advice is BUY BUY BUY...LOL

unfortunatly yea it does. now excuse my ignorance on the subject but in australia can you buy off ebay or somethign for less and just have it shipped to you. I mean they are regulating to actual GW vendors but i wouldn't think they can trace /track ebay sales/ shipping destinations

BAH! I've been having issues with my browser and Couldn't edit my last post (sorry totally misread rjnorman post). Yes both rjnorman and you are correct. The exchange rate was rubbish a long time ago and GW never corrected it when it became more even. We can still buy off of ebay but not everyone ships to NZ or OZ and it just isn't as convenient or as cheap as wayland or maelstrom. I mainly use Ebay for bits.

oh i agree it is complete bull that you guys get screwed cause the exchange rate was unfavorable (note the WAS as i knwo now your currency is doping very well, go, <3 NZ i wanna go back one day it is a lovely country I'd move there in a heartbeat given the chance) , i was just trying to help find a solution I know a bud of mine who has an army in thailand just gets me to order his stuff and pay pals me the money and i ship to him adn the guys out there he plays with. keeps the shop i play at happy when they have big orders (i order enough that while the usual discount is 10% i get 20% off everything and 25% off ork stuff since he knows that is the army i play)

I don't see how they could legally stop me from selling my GW stuff to someone in Australia.
I will say this, some of my best customers on Ebay were from Australia. Every one of them seemed really appreciative that I would sell and ship to them.

I bought a bunch of guard stuff a while back and since the conversion from dollars to pounds was favorable it was cheaper to buy Renegade Guard than it was to buy the GW models in store.
Now with FINECAST pricing it's pretty ridiculous.

I myself am not too worried by the embargo as I have friends in the UK that can buy and post items to me as I need them. (funny enough I lived in Thailand for a few years). I don't see myself buying anything new for a while as I have loads to paint at the moment. I really want to get a SOB army (when they get revamped) and I hope that this whole embargo/rpice thing is resolved by then.
I do find myself searching ebay a whole lot more these days (have a few conversion ideas):p.

Yeah, this has been like this since our dollar got stronger. I could go spend $96au on a Hive Tyrant from GW, or $75au on a Forgeworld Tyrant. Only $95au for a winged Hive Tyrant.
Buy a complete Carnifex Stone Crusher kit, with it's full Carnifex box plus resin parts, for the same price as a Carnifex cost over here before the price hike.
Hopefully GW management don't notice this.

Interesting find. If I was still interesting in GW products, I’d probably look at FW as an alternative to the current overpriced regular GW stuff.
I think we can safely say that GW’s business model is not just “insane” but “Willem Dafoe insane”.

Thanks Hobbs. The thread really needed that*...
Anyway, FW prices giving you regular product for much less isn’t exactly new. I remember back in ’05 when I was putting together my Russ Companies that it was significantly cheaper for me to order the full conversion kits (of, say, a Russ Vanquisher) than it was to order just the Vanq turret and then buy a Russ.
The price disparity between Oz and the UK and $:£ ratios just make that existing difference more pronounced.
*Yes, that was sarcasm.

I was thinking of starting a new cadian army until i realised that doing a Death Korps army is only going to be marginally more expensive.
In particular, I noticed that most of the Leman Russ variants are around $8-$10 cheaper than buying it from an oz store.
Plus, they're much nicer looking kits.

It's not that page you really should be looking at, it's the full conversion kits for vehicles. Since they come with the resin pieces as well as the full GW kit, you save quite a lot, and depending on exchange rates, it can be cheaper than buying the GW kit itself.

Maby your correct when talking about AMERICAN or BRITISH prices for GW. But we are paying the same as you guys for other minatures, but twice as much for GW.
So unless you guys are getting bargin prices on GW then yes, GW stuff is overpriced here and those other "minature companies" cost half as much per model
