My personal secret lair

I am wondering that does anyone here field certain units in their army just because you like the unit. You like the way it looks or you like the fluff and field it because of a reason like that without the usefulness (or uselessness) of the unit mattering at all. For example I field a Leman Russ Punisher in my catachan army because I just like the way the damn thing looks. It takes a whole lot of points after being equipped with heavy-bolter sponsons and a stubber but I don't care. I just like it so that is why I field it. I named it "platoon" because of the amount of shots it can fire in a turn and it happens to be one of my personal favorite models.

So do any of you do this?

I shall rule the world someday utilizing my cuteness. And I already have one minion to help me do it!

Khorne Berzerkers. Their effectiveness is a bonus.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Kharn the Betrayer. He's not bad, of course. But people keep telling me to get a second Daemon Prince.

No way. I don't mind that he usually kills 40-60 points in friends and dies to a hidden Power Fist or Klaw. He eats walkers alive and so far has never let any enemy HQ live long enough to strike back at him.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.

I must agree on the thunderfire cannon. The thing just looks awesome. I've never had any regrets about using one. Techmarines are something I like to field also just because they look cool... even when they die.

I've always loved the idea of watching the space marine land speeders zooming across the battlefield strafing enemies, the cannons cycling ready to fire while the delicious thrumming hum of the grav engines propel it at speed banking and jinking through the ruins and buildings, moving too fast to be hit (sometimes) ....yeah i just like 'em just because i do!

Dark Angels Company Veterans. The robed power armour marines look cool as a pack, they come loaded with power weapons and storm shields, and the "WTF?!?!" look on my opponents' faces when they pop out is usually priceless. I really hope that the Veterans are one squad that are not taken out of the Dark Angels codex when (if?) it's re-vamped.

All of my armies have some sort of gimmick to them. Namely I field Lucious in a Noise Marine Army (havent actually tried this since they're still in early stages of painting, but alot of people have told me how stupid an idea this is apparently).

I've also fielded a lone carnifex in 3rd ed with crushing claws. Not exactly my smartest move....

And a mono-khorne Daemon Army (deepstriked right in front of a necron gunline....doh).

Sisters repentia. Boy did gw drop the ball on that unit. What? Powerfists on a t3 unit without an inv save? Geeeeeeniooous!

Nonetheless, the 1 out of 3 games that they get into cc seems to make up for the rest of the time they die to anti infantry fire.
