Battle Field

The Set up. Tau And Space Marines Win the roll And I fail to Seize.

====================================================================

Top of Round 1.

The Space Marin Dread lands near my Raider with Heamonculus bearing the Webway with Incubi Body Guard.
It only damages my Dark Lance, But one unit of Fire warriors are able to make out the shape of my Raider in the gloom
and turn it to a pile of nothingness.

Bottom Of Round 1

The bulk of by Dark Eldar In a show of extreme hubris, go right up the middle. Intending to simply do away with the dread
with a casual shot, Raiders full of warriors and reavers zoom up to the dread....and after a dozen blaster and heatlance shots,
only shake it!!! With the Webway deployed center-right of the Field, my Heamonculus charges the dread just to tie it up
to stop it rampaging through my Raider force, and to await the Haywire-tossing Wyches.

====================================================================

Top of Round 2

The eclipsed sun returns its light to the field of battle as the Archon realises the folly of his arrogance.
Dozens of Tau Weapons pour into the Raiders as they take evasive maneuvers. The Space Marines take the fortress and lend there
fire as both flanks of the Dark Eldar are assailed.

Bottom of Round 2

In a crucial round of the game, My Archon Engages the Salamander Captain, A unit of Wyches try to pry the Dreadnaught off
of the Incubi and the 20 man Warriors engage the 20 Kroot. The two latter emerging from the Webway.The Kroot hold their position
againts the warriors with a draw, the Wyches only tickle the dread, and after only inflicting a single wound on the Captain, my
Archon takes a single hit From his Thunder Hammer. Laughing, The Archon Strikes a particularly arrogant pose as he activates his
Shadowfield. I roll a one.

Note the distinct lack of any Archons in this picture.

====================================================================

Top of Round 3

Reminiscent of shooting Gjiklor fish in a Sorgon chamber, My Haemonculu realises that he should never have listened to that hot-headed
Archon. "Just take stright up the middle! It is the last thing they will expect us to do!" He welcomed a strength 10 blow to the head
from the Dread so that maybe he would finally learn his lesson. That very Dread is now serving to be a major roadblock, tying up
4 times his value points as the Wyches can't do anything but shake it. The battle between the Kroot and Warriors continues to draw,
but the Kroot are definitely getting the upper hand.

Bottom of Round 3

With the arrival of the last unit of wyches and Hellions, a small glimmer of hope appears for the dark Eldar. The Hellions wipe out
The Space Shark Captains escort and remain in combat. The new unit of Wyches destroy the rest of the Kroot but the folly of such
eagerness for bloodshed becomes clear. Both units are now facing the bulk of the untouched Tau fireing line. The Wyches fighting the
Dread finally finishes the job, albeit a bit too late. It is at this point when it is clear that my only hope is to ignore the Tau
and go after the Space Marines. But with my forces heavily depleted, this will be no easy task.

======================================================================
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

With the clock hitting 2 in the morning, I throw in the towel. I really did not stand a chance considering my terrible deployment.
I had a completely awesome opportunity to concentrate my entire force on the Space marine flank and I blew it. I could used the
Fortress to shield myself from the static Tau force while having all the time in the world to dissect the Space marines. This was my
first time using the Webway with this new codex and I got too dependant on it. What a great learning experience! I have 3 Talos in
transit and I will make at least one a mandatory choice in every list

All in all Ty and Aaron are awesome, humble and good natured opponents and were kind enough not to gloat about the resounding whooping
they delivered to my Dark Eldar.

Here are some Parting shots showing how little I had left on the table at the top of the 4th.

Mahalo to my opponents and to you for reading this report!

Aloha!

That is some very nicely painted armies!

Especially good to see Salamanders with the black backpacks, I'm continually impressed by the number of people who paint them green.

Thanks Sol, for having us over to game with you, always an awesome host and super gaming buddy. Aaron, you have the most nasty 'dread. ever. that guy sure earns his pay.

Tau list as follows:

HQ: Commander Shas'o in Crisis Suit. [Airburst Frag Projector, missile pod, hard-wire multi-tracker, positional relay]

2x Crisis Suit unit [burst cannon, missile pod, multi-tracker]
2x Crisis Suit unit [burst cannon, missile pod, multi-tracker]
12x Fire Warrior unit, w/ Shas'ui [pulse rifle, markerlight, bonding knife, photon grenades] (Team Miku)
12x Fire Warrior unit, w/ Shas'ui [pulse rifle, markerlight, bonding knife, photon grenades] (Team Luka)
20x Kroot Carnivore squad w/ Shaper
20x Kroot Carnivore squad w/ Shaper
1x Broadside [rail guns, smart missiles, hard-wire blacksun & multi-tracker, advanced stabilisation system]
1x Sky Ray Gunship

this was my break-in game for my HQ, Pink Team (Luka), and Sky Ray. An epic shooting game that brought about new ideas and more fine-tuning of the army. first time using the markerlight. that was interesting. now that I've seen it in action, maybe the missile boat can be made more effective.

Sol, thanks for another awesome day of gaming. You too Tyler.

Space Marine list:

Salamanders 3rd co.

HQ: captian w/ combi-flamer and thunder hammer.

10 man tactical squad w/ flamer and multi melta.
5 man tactical squad, sergeant w/ power sword. drop pod.
super awesome dreadnought w/ twin linked heavy flamer and heavy flamer . extra armor. drop pod.
land speeder w/ multi melta and heavy flamer.
whirlwind.

Space Sharks:

HQ: captain w/ power weapon.

5 man tactical squad w/ power fist and Razorback(stronos patern)
10 man tactical squad w flamer & heavy bolter. power fist.

Normally I wouldnt take 2 HQs for a 1250 game but I happened to have a 750 Salamanders list (from my last game w/ Ty) and a 500 pt Space Sharks list in my army transport. so to save time I just put them together as a joint task force. Also I wasnt really in the mood to play (tired). But a gloating Archon said (with an evil smile) "dont worry, it will be fast". last time his dark eldar had crippled me by round 2. glad I did play though, had alot of fun.
Sol, you need to put up better pics of your Dark Eldar. the pics you took of our armies look good but your army is blurry. next time I will bring my camera and we can share in the photo/ battle report duties.

Hey Zid, quite simple really. For the vehicles I broke one of the main rules for using spray paint. I sprayed from about 18 inches away. This way a very slight, gritty texture could build up on the surface. Note that I did not use this technique for the Pilot and Gunner. And if you try this, be sure to practice on something else first.

Then taking some scaly green (I think reaper paint version is Scrub Green) I drybrushed the Raider. I added Tallaran Flesh(very appropriate) to lighten the Scaly green by degrees. The overall feel was a slightly airbrushed softness which (to me) complements the sharp angles of the Raiders. I then did a very light wash of brown and black ink (3 parts water) just cause I wanted to break up the surface areas.

All painted and pushing 60,000 points combined.

Awesome painting on everyones part, just incredible. Especially the table, man, just looking at it makes me want to play.

“We are the ones you left for dead. The ones you left in the ground. Buried and forgotten, we have tunneled our ways to the stars, and there will be no dirt nor cave where you can hide. The Dwellar are here.”
Dwellar Codex; 40k Dwarfs

“Well, what do you carry the gun for if you’re just going to waste bullets?” Timer reloads his Boomer as Forling fires his Shrapper.
“I may ‘ne be a good shot Timer, but I don’t miss much from this close up with my hammer,” Forling continues to fire.
“All the enemies are good and far away so what the hell does that…” Timer looks up to see Forling giving him an angry stare. “Oh, yea, ok, um, good shooting.”

A short game but it looks like there was plenty of action, good battle report, I liked the idea of the Archon laughing with his shield then getting smashed in the face by a hammer.

A few things.

1) This is everything that the hobby should be. Beautiful models, scenic table, gamers having fun.

2) To touch a bit more on the painting and modeling, there is some very inspired work there.

3) What kind of camera did you take those pictures with?

Ah, I found a glass paper weight at a Ben Franklin store that was the exact dimensions of the GW one. And as it is heavy, it won't shift around on the table. To be safe I bought 2

-Ben Franklin is our local craft/scrapbooking supply store here. I'm sure you can find one in your local crafts store as well!

@ZeroSamurai, some plasticard, tons of bits (weapons, mostly. the Airburst frag projector needed a burst cannon, fusion gun, and over 4 flamers alone...), and listening to your imagination.
the frag projector and cyclic Ion blaster (not pictured) were scratch built using above stuff. I didn't like how the one's made in the codex looked. kinda too small and wussy for what the damage potential that they can inflict. although now the model takes up a ton of space in my army carrier... lol...

Loved the bobble heads shas'ui. The Gundam suits are epic as well, almost made me run to the local gw store to grab as many as I could :p Now I will definitely need to get me some Tau in the not so far future...must...resist...not turning away from my other armies!

yes, but that was the hard part. most of the Nendoroids are too big to fit the scale very well to make it look like a good "chibi" profile.
then the really hard part, cutting off the heads of a perfectly good Nendoroid Figure. it gets easier the more you do it, but not cheaper.... LOL!
