I finally got around to finishing my ebay-rescue Leman Russ Vanquisher conversion, I wanted it to look fairly modern, and like it had been on an extended deployment in harsh desert conditions.

Anyway, here's the pics, I think I'll tone the weathering down a notch or two on the next one, but I'm still pleased with it.

A pre-painted shot.

Group shot of a few models.

All C&C gratefully received

When I first saw the pre-painted version, thinking it WAS painted I felt: what the...?

But right after I saw the final pictures and I must say it is VERY nice, you have clearly achieved your 2 objectives!

The weathering isn't excessive in my opinion and the extended hull looks very good.

The only negative feedback I would give is about the size of the hull lascannon, it just feels a bit too big. Is that the original one or did you add a bigger lascannon?

Absolutely Love it! I am a huge fan of Vanquishers altogether so this one just stands out as beautiful!

I think you captured the look of what you wanted Spot on!!

May i ask how you did the barrel for it? i have been trying to make one for myself though none of my attempts come out looking right. Thanks!

Really nice work, I love an e-bay rescue! The desert paintjob has worked very well, I do agree about the weathering, specifically the chipped edges GW painters are so fond of, but overall it works

Thanks for the feedback guys

@M'Kachen: Yeah, the hull lascannon is an original one, but not the current one, it's scavenged from a really old OOP Leman Russ kit.

@FireCancer: The barrel is a metal and brass one for a 1/35 howitzer kit I found on ebay, I have a hatred for barrels with split-part 'mould lines' where the halves of the barrel meet, so replace all my tank barrels with metal ones!

@glon: Yeah, it's an Old Crow turret. I love their stuff, I have 3 chimeras with these turrets, I think they suit the model really well here's a better pic of one, the general 'style' is the same as my Russ.

Thanks...

I was thinking about picking some up for my Chimeras and actually getting some to do some Las/Plas Razorbacks.

That is a fantastic rescue! I am assuming that the thing came with its sponsons upside down though?

For the refurbished hull, were you using foamcore or just thick plasticard? Old Crow deserves everyone's man-babies for their awesomeness.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

@ Flinty: Nah, I refitted the sponsons that way around because the sloped top seemed to suit the model more and have a slightly more modern look.
Incidentally the side meltas are still the upside-down standard heavy bolters with the ends cut off and some stormbird melta barrels from a bitz store stuck on!
The hull extension was made from 3mm plasticard, and yeah, Old Crow stuff is truly excellent.

Yeah, I got tricked by the first photo.

Very cool finished product. It really provides for a unique look which is what makes armies memorable. Great work. I especially like the little details such as the half Aquilla on the turret. Great work.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

@Sevenups: It's a transfer from a very, very cheap KV-1 kit from ebay, although I wish I could paint white that cleanly.
I'm going to use the track assembly from the KV-1 kit for my basilisk I think. I would use the turret on a Leman Russ as well, but I can't help but worry that 'true LOS' and a very tall KV-1 turret wouldn't mix too well!
