It restarts every two hours I think, but it crashes randomly. SMP code is horrendous.

Are there any nethergates remotely near me (dakka town is fine ) that people wouldnt mind me using to collect materials?
Need to mine the obsidian for mine so its going to take a fair while before it is finished.

It's quite easy to create obsidian using naturally ocurring lava. OR hell, just go into the nether and get some lava, then go back into the real world and create some obsidian that way.

there's one in gooda's and one in dakkatown, adjacent to the sanctuary.

Or use the redstone trick.
Although IMO it's easier just to find a lake of lava in your mine somewhere and mine it locally from lava + water.

Oh aye, its just that I want one in the center of my tree by the little houses, and the risk factor of setting everything on fire is just too high for me, especially considering how laggy it is when I play! So I'm going the safe route and mining the obsidian to build instead of making a gate out of lava Ive cooled

I'm not sure the planetoids mod works with macs.
I recommend you try mo creatures or the planes mod, those work with macs.
