I've always wanted to know what race will finally win this war. I think it will be either orks or tyranids. (I do not collect either of these races.) What do you guys think.

I hate to say it, but if the tyranids are as numerous as the imperium thinks they are they will win. But I still hold the belief that the hive is running from whatever is in there galaxy, which is a giant waagh!.

Isn't it obvious? The Orks will be the ones to take over the galaxy! Even the Eldar and some of the Space Marines accept it. I can't really say too much rihgt now, but it had to be said.

Please. We're way too arrogant to admit that

What about the Ria Dandra?? (very unsure on spelling/correctness)
Its in the eldar codex, and speaks of the last battle between eldar and chaos, in which the whole universe and warp will be destroyed

I see an eternal stalemate, since no race other than Orks can hit the win button. Orks already have a state of eternal war. Mankind is resilient in it's resolve, Tyranids always eat, get beaten, then send another fleet. Necrons harvest (though that could change), Chaos is chaotic, Eldar scheme, Dark Eldar do dark things, Tau...
It's hard to call in general because things change constantly in war. So, go Orks!!!

The cockroaches will win, they can survive a nuclear blast so one can only assume that once the dust settles and all the races have destroyed themselves, the cockroaches will raise their flag and a new era of Cockroach rule will begin.

I for one welcome our new cockroach overlords, assuming their are any survivors.

On Topic, I find this question daft, as I always do because its far to vague a question to come to any conclusion. GW has specifically written its fluff so that each race will be enternally locked in war. The moment GW decide to give any sense of closure it will spell doom to the continuation of the rich history. The storyline is locked at a specific point so that none of the "what if?" parts of the codex will ever happen, such as Ork rallying across the whole galaxy, or the Primarch's returning, etc etc.

All of the books that have been written may advance the storyline by a small amount, but never enough to allow it to change the dyanamics of the 40K setting

If you really wanted to get an answer to your question you'd need to lay down some peramiters(spelling). For example, say that all the orks did unite and started a crusade. From there you could use your own judgement to determine how you think the other races would react and what the outcome would be.

Chaos will never win. The legions fathers couldnt do it, how do you expect their sons to do it? They are pathetic shadows of the power they once had, they are a broken race, who only came under the same banner 13 times, and failed 13 times. Sure all they want to do is fight, but they are not good enough at it to ever win.

I sort of see HellsGuardian316 point but not clearly. How is this question vauge as it is asking through any means such as allialiances(spelling) which race will win. I think orks or tyranids as they have nearly unlimited numbers to through at the foe.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also I don't really care that GW have written that no race will get tue advantage but that what race will win. I don't want it to be a case of Tau win because I like them. I would like it if people brought their reasons up for a certain race winning.

What i am saying is that given the current abilities and setup of each of the races, plus the way that GW has written out the storyline it is impossible to say who will win. The 40K universe is intentionally set in a never ending war that no faction can ever hope to win (because GW have no intention of doing that) Therefore a vague question of "who would win" cannot be answered. If an faction was actually able to win you'd think they'd have won by now. It has been 40,000years after all.

So my point was, unless you change a contributing factor and then ask the question, you'll never get out of the locked stalemate. And by contributing factor i mean things like....
"Eldar Allying with the Imperium"
"All the Necrons suddenly activating"
"A mass Tryanid invasion"
"The Orks allying in a massive Waaghh"
Basically anything large enough to cause the current factions to re-think their strategy

Unless something happens to tip the blance of power, none of the current factions will have any means or wants to do anything differently. If you read all the Warhammer 40K books and do all the Campaigns that GW runs, you'll notice that even though they advance the storyline of 40K they never do it in such a way that they can ever hope to get out of this never ending spiral of war, you only ever get a glimpse of it. If you try to remove the aspect of the personality of each army or the background of 40K your not going to get a good answer.

I have nothing against people asking "who would win?" as long as a parameter is set so you have a basis to theorise. Otherwise the counter argument to EVERYTHING is simply "Well they've had 40,000 years to win and haven't". In your second post you say that its by any means. Could you add that to your question as then it gives us a starting point to theorise. Granted its a BIG starting point, but it is one

Also, on a lighter side, I notice your a new poster. Welcome to Dakka, why not stop by the "Introductions?" thread and introduce yourself and tell us what armies you collect, or even if you just do modelling rather than gaming. Most of us are of a friendly disposition

Depends. Do you believe the Cabal? If so, Chaos will ultimately win.

Do you believe Imperial analysis of the Tyranids? If so, the Tyranids will win.

Do you believe Ork fluff? If so, the Orks will win.

Imperium's doomed, any way you slice it.

Alright first thanks for the welcome Hellsguardian316. My friends and I have always wanted to know through a sensible but large scale thing such as Eldar and the Imperium uniting to destroy Chaos, that what race will win. The orks will finally unite under Ghazzy or some other ork warlord so when they do they will destroy everything but Tyranids as they also have limitless numbers and will throw everything at the orks. So I would enjoy to see people put forward their ideas for what race will win. I under stand that GW has made it that the races will be locked in eternal war. But put forward your ideas nontheless.

Interesting question.

1.) Chaos SM: Broken since the heresy
2.) Nids: Eat everything and then die from a lack of food.
3.) SM / IG: Broken since the heresy
4.) Orks: Could kill everything else, but then they would only be fighting each other... so maybe.
5.) Eldar (Light or Dark) pretty much doomed regardless.
6.) Chaos Daemons: Need mortals to thrive.
7.) Necrons: Immortal robot things... that like to kill... WINNER

I hate necrons...

Well, in terms of the actual progression of the storyline, there won't be any; Games Workshop will never confirm that one race ultimately wins, I don't think, because that's more or less the end of the setting for their profitable game.

They have, however, very strongly hinted that the Imperium's done for: the Imperium has to sacrifice quite a few worlds to stop any given Hive Fleet, and probably has only seen the tip of the iceberg with those. Imperial planets can't truly get rid of orks once they've landed, due to how orks breed. Black Crusades haven't exactly done well against the Imperium, but neither has the Imperium really hurt Chaos, and Chaos can play the long game.

The thing that dooms them in my mind, though, is the simple sentence in the BRB that mentions the technicians responsible for the Golden Throne found failures in it that are far beyond their ability to repair. The Golden Throne's eventually going to break down, and when it does, the Astronomican goes; when the Astronomican goes, the Imperium will no longer be able to navigate the warp, and every planet/sector/etc. will have to fend for itself. That'll be the end.

The Imperium as we know it is screwed, unless The Emperor decides his nap is over. Humanity however, I believe will survive. They survived The Age of Strife, this time they are much more organized. The only worlds that I see being completely screwed are Hive Worlds, as they can't sustain themselves. If I were a human in 40k, Ultramar or some Astartes defended system is the best place to go.

I believe its either going to be nids or necrons. Nids because there's just so many of them. And fluff wise the tyranid invasion of the galaxy hasn't even really begun yet.

However, no one even knows how many Necrons there are in the galaxy. These machines are immortal and when they get blasted to pieces, new necrons are made from those pieces.

As for the orks, tyranids would beat them with biological warfare. Even an ork can't survive on a planet with no atmoshpere!

If it came to a showdown between necrons and nids, I think it would be a stalemate. They would fight for a while, then the hive mind would realise necron worlds are already dead anyway, and then the nids would just avoid necron worlds. They'd be done with the galaxy and would move on, letting the necrons to go back to their slumber.

Tyranids already avoid Tomb Worlds, and since Tyranids have no souls to speak of, neither race can come out on top.
