Lately I've been painting up some Flesh Tearer marines from the Assault on Black Reach set. I'm halfway through the Tactical Squad and thought I'd share my progress for you perusal!

Feel free to leave any comments or criticisms, or just words of encouragement

This is the first Flesh Tearer I painted. I did him singularly to get an idea of how it would turn out.

Here's two subsequent Marines. I find doing two at a time gives me decent progress but stops me going stir crazy! Building up the red sections tends to be time consuming.

Next is the Flamer wielding Marine.

You'll probably notice I've not attempted the Chapter symbol yet. I need some serious free hand practice before I try that!

Also as a note, I'd originally painted these miniatures up as Ultramarines, but I'd done a terrible job! So I stripped them using Dettol and a toothbrush. It works amazingly well and leaves all of the detail intact.

I'll post more pictures up as I complete more Marines. The remainder of the Tactical squad are next, then I think I'll tackle the Terminators.

Hope you like them so far

UPDATE: Here's the full squad.

They looks pretty good, nice clean and crisp paintjob

Had an initial problem with the images though, had to drag their URL to my browser

Let me try to sort that. They all appeared initially in the preview, but now I only get the first image.

Thanks for looking

Ooh, those are some crisp Marines! I definitely like the look of them. I don't know if your lighting is blowing it out, but you could definitely use some shading on the red. A light touch of Gryphonne Sepia in the recesses would be pretty much the final touch on these bad boys. I like em!

Thanks guys and gals. I still consider myself very much a novice painter, so it's really heartening to hear such praise

One thing the pictures seem to hide a little is the lighter metal highlights. I'll try to get some better pictures once I've finished the next two Marines.

A few of you have commented on the eyes. They're really simply done. It's just Skull White with a Bhaal Red wash. The wash tends to stick more to the edges of the eye socket, leaving the middle a little whiter than the outsides. I was worried they were a little too pink!

I just noticed that on Forge World they do a Blood Angels transfer sheet which has Flesh Tearer symbols on!

That solves my freehand designed problem.

Something I noticed, that I like, is the purity seals. I like that you went with a color other than red for the wax. (I recognize that red probably wouldn't go too great on the already red armor, but still, it's different.) I've been playing around with that myself, and seem to find that, unfortunately, red seems to be the only color that works against my green marines.

You mentioned that it was a difficult process building up your red areas. Would you care to share how you do it? Everyone seems to do red a different way.
