Subject: Cult of the Bone Bane (What's a Haemonctopus?)
So I have taken a very long time to actually start painting my models but here it goes.
Fluff
Spoiler:
The Cult of the Bone Bane were a group of wyches so brutal and murderous in the arena, that they found the spectacles to begin to bore them. They then left Commorragh to seek to sake their bloodlust in real space. Their distance from Commorragh forced them to reassess the age old matriarchy of the wych cults. The Hekatrix leaders recognized that without in order to procreate, they needed the most talented and skilled male wyches to hold positions of power that reflected their special contributions to the cult. As a result, leadership positions are held by an elite female and he male counterpart.
It wasn't long before this wayward cult found their true leader. A leader who's bloodlust exceeded their own. Duke Sliscus the Serpent provides the combat drugs that they never knew existed when they lived in Commorragh. The Duke's fleet provides the Cult of the Bone Bane the speed they desire to deliver sweet merciless death to the unwitting lesser races.
Army List

Ok So I have just finished 3 more Wyches and a Hekatrix. I tried to do a little more with the skin color scheme. Still looking for improvements in that area.

Ok, just got busy over the last couple of weeks, but finally here are some WIP trueborn. These will be of the sliscus variety, so they will be bearing shard carbines and splinter cannons.
Also in the works is my Sliscus. I was originally thinking of using a Lokhir Fellheart, but I couldn't resist the urge to model something. Pics of that later.
Sliscus WIP will be posted today, but in the meantime I am looking for some suggestions on what I can do to make some tubes. I have some wire, also a hot glue gun, but no greenstuff. I don't really want to make the purchase for greenstuff yet, because Sliscus is really the only one I am modeling right now anyway.
Here is my almost converted Sliscus the Serpent. I have a couple things I need to do to this conversion. I want to attach some tubes from those things sticking out of his back to connect to the butt of his blades. I also am going to use some hot glue with some green wash to make some venom drip from his blades. So the tubes will be as if they are deliver the hypertoxins from the container over his cape.
But for the tubes I need some suggestions, I was thinking about using some partially see through green craft thread. But it may look flimsy(like actual tubes)
One other thing is the blast pistol, I wanted to throw in that holstere pistol from the raider kit, but it looks like a splinter pistol. I may just use it anyway.

In the picture I can definitely see what you mean. I took a closer look at the model and found that one of the valves on his back is off kilter, It kinda makes the right arm look a little off. Still.. maybe I should redo the arms. I kinda had in mind for doing a small scene with him decapitating prisoners. So that is why the pose is like that.
I suggest using guitar wire for the tubes. My brother did that on some of his termies and it looked very good. As for the arms i do think that a reposing would be good but i also think that you should use the venom blades that come with the scourge kit instead of power swords. That would make more sense. He looks pretty sweet though
The Duke looks good, and the Trueborn are excellent. The venom blades just seem a bit too large to be wielded two-handed, and the pose doesn't help.
I've found the trophy poles from the Raiders/Venoms make good Impalers, maybe one of those blade heads attached to a knife hilt would be good for a lighter more unique look to the blades?
Just a thought, the rest of him is a very cool kitbash
Point taken on the arms. I switched out the right arm. He now has a hydra gauntlet holding one of his power swords. Looks great with that matching elbow blade on the other arm.
Some great suggestions on different blades. I would like to use the venom blades. But I already have spent quite a bit on scourge bits, I'm guna feel stupid for not buying a box... The trophy poles idea is an excellent suggestion. Though I like the idea of him being super high on combat drugs, and doesn't feel the weight of those massive blades. I also plan to use some hot glue to make a small drip of venom from one of the blades, and it probably wouldn't come out so good on those smaller ones.
Thank you sum1! Guitar strings worked perfectly. I had nylon strings so I hope that won't be a problem. I remember seeing an excellent talos using guitar strings as tubes, I guess it just forgot about it.
I will save pics on the sliscus until I have made up my mind and begin painting. In the meantime I am trying to kick my ass to get some more trueborn done.
So I think I have painting ADD. I said before I would work on more trueborn before I paint sliscus. But I have decided that I actually want more practice on wyches so that I can get his face and skin right. But then I really wanted to get some thing done on some vehicles so I started 2 raiders. I need to do the prow and get some new paints for blood splatter. So pics perhaps today or tomorrow.
So here is what I have so far on the hull of the raiders, I am still deciding whether I want to do so freehand on the white parts before I add the blood splatter. I was thinking something along the lines of black thorns. Or maybe a serpent for Sliscus' raider.
Notice the inverted styles. I personally like the white to be in front. I think it will stand out against the blood splatter better.
Well, with no real guidance here, I decided to freehand some black thorns on the white parts of the hull. Having not done any freehand in a long long time, I am somewhat happy with the results. And I can always cover up the parts I don't like with my blood splatter. So two finished raiders will up this weekend if I can get my arse out and buy the paints I need.

Subject: Cult of the Bone Bane (Raider WIPs to freehand or stencil)
I'd suggest getting all the painting done on the raider before doing weathering. That then means it'll look like its covering the machine rather than the other way around. For tubing I like to use florist's wire it's cheaper than Guitar Strings and does a similiar job.
"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

I found an awesome guide to blood splatter on youtube and I will deffinitely be using this method. (about 5:00 in)
I am a guitar player so i had a broken string laying around so no big deal there. The blood splatter is only going to be on the front. So before the blood splatter I just need to touch up my freehand and paint the spikes, and decide whether I want to do chains or not. (im thinking not)

Second the detailing before the weathering, works much better. Is the raider assembled yet? I found it a lot easier to leave it primed but unassembled to make sure O got to everything!
Looking good though, will look great with its attendant squad!
Still working on them. Thought I could be done, but I desperately needed to start more wyches. So finished raider pics will come after I've done the crew. For now enjoy blood splatter.
Vanq wrote:Looks hilariously awesome, like they have just ploughed through a bunch of people. Love it
That's the idea. I'm thinking I'm going to put some of my tyranids to good use and have impaled genestealers, and rippers caught by chains. These ships will be like fly swatters. That will be the next couple of raiders though.
For now, I am going to finish 11 more wyches so I can have 2 squads fully done.
I really want to get everything to tabletop quality. But the new jon the job is kinda getting is kinda getting in the way.
So I am making some goals for myself. I want a squad or two vehicles per week to get to tabletop quality. I'm thinking after everything has its basic first couple of coats done I can come back and touch everything up. This weekend my goal is to finish my Sliscus trueborn. I will also post some better pictures of those wyches because the lighting wasn't too good.
I really like that Sliscus, taking in to account that the swords will probably look bigger than they actually are thanks to the camera angle. That's a damn nice model though. Can you get a picture up now that you've changed him over? Digging the thorns on the raider too
